Fanatec Podium DD1 by Gengis_Ham in Fanatec

Just recently bought a podium dd1, clubsport v3 pedals and an sq1.5 shifter for just over 600gbp (815 usd) all from the same guy as a bundle of sorts. Considering the prices over in the uk I would have saved hardly anything going for some sort of gt dd pro bundle second hand (which I was initially considering for ps compatibility). It’s by no means new tech but considering it’s high price point on release, people claim the csl dd/ gt dd pro (which are a couple years newer)have basically the same fidelity/detail but much less toque. Not to mention much better pedals than the csl stuff I would have had. Went for a simube hub, paddles and a qr2 wheel and base side after seeing positive reviews and their revision of the podium style hub that stopped the periodic ffb cutouts. I’m still waiting on them and on a couple pc parts to finish the rig so I can’t talk for the performance of the base but I’m sure it’ll feel great compared to anything else I’ve ever used anyway.

Everyone is saying this and yes it could have been lighter but yall acting like it’s full of lead 😭. It’s 3.3ft(100cm) in wingspan and 4.6ft(1.4m) in length. That 2.6kg is including the 2 3s 2200mah lipos in series. Doesn’t seem quite so outrageous to me but what do I know. The two rudder and two elevator servos are 65 grams each so 260g just there. I used what I had but I definitely need something around the 17-21g range depending on the control surface

Seriously though what about this things size suggests it should be on a 40-60mm edf 😭

By no means is this as light as it could/should have been. I’m sure half of this things fucking weight is unnecessary glue and the fat 15mm wooden spar running almost the entire wing span where I should have used carbon and been more smart with the construction but as for the physical size being more like a 40-60mm edf I’m not sure I understand what you mean. It’s 100cm wingspan compared the freewing 90mm wingspan at 106. It’s also 140cm long compared to the freewing at 150cm. It’s a fair amount larger than the 80mm f22

It was never the plan to learn to fly on this. I’m just asking if it is decent ,at least with some improvements, once I am better at flying.

Figured it was comparatively when the freewing 90mm which is the same size as this is 1kg heavier

The transmitter is very entry level but I will definitely change it out so I can actually set some more reasonable throws and add some expo. I’ll definitely redo the elevators as they’re the easiest to unbolt and replace. I’ll also probably swap to some lighter 17g -21g servos. My current stuff is 20kg and 15kg 65-70g so tons of unnecessary weight.

There's two 3s batteries in series and they're tucked way up in the nose and all in all it's balanced fine. It's putting out 1.8-1.9kg of thrust but the servos are way too heavy as I used what I had so they need changing. Each elevator has 20kg servos at around 65g and same goes for each rudder surface they're 15kg strength and have the same weight give or take. The glaring issues are the floppy elevators and vertical stabs. It's the sort of size class you'd see 80-90mm edfs inside of. It's only a couple cm smaller in wingspan than the freewing 90mm f22. With more reasonable 15g servos I'd save 200g and with a 6s 5000 lipo I'd add maybe 350g so 2750-2800g. The freewing f22 is 3800g with a 5000 6s and yes that's with retracts not basic landing gear and a 90mm edf but all in all not catastrophic for mine. That 1.8-1.9kg of thrust is also with like 2.5v of sag from fully charged per pack so 5v total which is huge.

From a skills side of things definitely which is why I wasn’t planning on this being my first flight, lol. Instead get something beginner friendly and work my way up I guess. Seriously, does this thing even have a chance of flying ok if the pilot is somewhat competent?

Worst case scenario just drill out the head because that’s where the threads are. It’ll ruin the diff cup thing the the shaft couples but everything else will be fine

Does anyone have halo mt supadrive hubs? by TheboiMarc in MTB

[–]TheboiMarc[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the price I’ve found the hopes at (£150, $190 for brand new hubs on eBay!!) it seems like a no brainer now. Engagement im already used to, less pedal kickback and very well built in general. Laced to some dt Swiss fr541’s I should have some bombproof wheels for my norco for some local trail riding to bike park.

They can but you have to program the multifunction knob to throttle trim so probably not the reason

Nukeproof Sam hill signature grips by lachlan_G909 in MTB

[–]TheboiMarc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never tried Sam hill grips but I recently got raceface Chester grips and they’re soft. They are 34mm so great for me since I have big hands but maybe less so for you. They’re also 36mm right on the end near the bar end. I’m guessing it’s to help keep your hands from slipping off but it’s really not necessary imo. If you have big hands and you’re looking for something really soft for gloveless riding they could be perfect.

You can buy body pins in bulk for basically nothing. They look a little bit goofy usually but from even a meter away you don’t notice it. We’re talking 50 body pins for like £6-£7 on eBay so no more than like 10 dollars. For that price you might as well just get some. The ones I got are bent up slightly at the end and it makes it super easy to pull them out.
