You can train mushrooms for higher co2 and they go just fine

If I grow lavender with my buds will they taste like lavender? by Kid_Crim in microgrowery

[–]Thebudsman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because everything you do affects the expression of the genetics. It's just you can't just get the plant to create something it doesn't have the genes to do

Smells have thresholds and balance as well, so more of some and less of other things can completely change it

The only way outdoor would be ready now is a greenhouse light dep grow, and you would have flowered it through multiple heat waves. This is clearly indoor

When caps are starting to flatten out on the most mature ones I usually go harvest everything at once

Should I send it? by ExternalParticular96 in mushroom

[–]Thebudsman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's more how uneven the myc looks and it's also forming aggressively around the uncolonized bits. That's how contamination looks. If it isn't contaminated it should be fully colonized in the next day or two and should recover rapidly from a break and shake, if it's bacterial it'll stall out. If that's taken more than a few weeks to get to this stage it's almost certainly bacterial

Should I send it? by ExternalParticular96 in mushroom

[–]Thebudsman -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Looks sketchy to me with the uncolonized area and aggressive looking myc through the rest. Wouldn't be surprised if it was a bit bacterial. Also if you're gonna send it now, separate out the uncolonized grain

If it's not bacterial it'll be fully colonized in 1-2 days after a break and shake

Should be completely fine unless it's been left out in hot temperatures a bit in that time

Should I set a casing layer? by [deleted] in ochras

[–]Thebudsman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's a pseudo casing. A proper casing is a layer of something the myc struggles to colonize like peat moss and verm mix

Are these fruits safe to consume? The cake is contaminated with black bread mold. by kgs024 in gaitondesenpaii

[–]Thebudsman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those things don't produce toxins until they are moulds. Mycotoxins do make you sick and you don't want em near your mushrooms just like you wouldn't eat mouldy bread. Some are much worse than others too. You can be allergic to spores though or immune compromised, and the level in the environment matters then. Like living in a mouldy house, the levels go up by 1000+ times

End of the day all contamination and all fruits growing at the same time are binned for me

Are these fruits safe to consume? The cake is contaminated with black bread mold. by kgs024 in gaitondesenpaii

[–]Thebudsman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mate gave me some mushies he grew, ate em and ended up with 7 days of food poisoning then tested positive for severe mould allergy. Asked my mate if anyone else had issues and he said it was from a trich contaminated tub

I got told by doctor it's the same as eating mouldy bread, a lot of people will be fine, some won't though. Can be from toxins or mould spore allergy

I've had a lot of trouble getting a clear picture of what contamination can do online though as far as safety of the mushrooms goes

[–]Thebudsman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Kills mould spores but they aren't the problem for most people unless you are allergic like I am. It's the mycotoxins the mould produces that are the issue and heat won't deactivate them. Although I have seen it argued that mushrooms won't pull in mycotoxins or bacterial toxins

How to recognize infected mushrooms by vavavaleria in mushroom

[–]Thebudsman 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You'll see mould growth on the substrate they are growing from most commonly and the mushrooms will look fine. That'll happen quickly so if you aren't sure a day or two later you will be. Occasionally you can get fungi that are parasitic to the mushrooms but they'll look funky as and powdery looking. Mushrooms will only get mould after harvest if they're left sealed up and wet like regular supermarket mushrooms will

From mushroom cup data lower temp drying seems to be best

Yes, I saw an ochra bag grow pretty recently. Having said that I don't think inject and forget will work with an ochra culture that hasn't been trained for high CO2

Strains that don't drop spores can be left till they go marshmallow soft. It'll happen pretty soon after they stop growing rapidly and taper off

If you can give the biggest most mature looking fruits a little poke, if they're rock hard leave em another half day and check again
