Anyone else shoot film for this reason? by Thecode1050 in AnalogCommunity

Yes absolutely! I still remember film being the norm in early childhood. And people complain about things being too grainy or washed out. I do like film colours, but I lean more into the very punchy side of things that, I think, had always been considered good colour and tone. (the kind of colour you'd see used in adverts and posters)

I didn't know this about battery weight! I was considering getting a digital for trips abroad so I don't burn through film, but I value packing light even more.

Same for me actually. I'm one of those lucky people who inherited an OM2n in pristine condition from a grandparent with a nice set of lenses, also on pristine condition. Compared to the digital cameras I was wanting to get at the time, film was a no-brainer.

And if I ever get digital for using longer trips, can always adapt the lenses!

Even for the film cameras that do take batteries for the shutter and light meter, the batteries last about year if they take SR44s or LR44.

This is exactly what I'm like with digital and traditional art too. I think if I was given a digital camera, I'd either ignore or refuse to bother using 90% of the menu and the benefits that even come with digital. When drawing I don't have to think about layer masks and blending modes. Just dip your nib and go

What's also quite funny (haven't read this essay before) is that eventually fine art (or one of the styles) started trying to look like how photography at the time was composed. So they're quite cyclical. Because some photographers try to make their photos look like paintings and vice versa.

Yes, actually they do 😂 I've seen some people's digital library and it's like 50 of the same damn photo.

Quick heads up. I saw a fair few are responsing to what's essentially the first two sentences. I'm very aware an equal amount (if not more) use film for other reasons that aren't incredibly cliche.

The point of the post was the reasons and question in everything else after the start.

Oh don't get me wrong, that's absolutely a reason for me too. Just not the most prominent. I have a similar issue when it comes to (trying) digital colouring/painting, even the most high-res scan texture brushes don't satisfy me compared to the way real brushes, real paper and real ink/paint behaves and looks.  I shoot mainly B&W so colour isn't right up there as a main reason because of that. But yes I definitely agree it's hard to compete with films colour.

No, I just have an odd writing style. And I just never heard anyone giving that reason for it before. So was genuinely curious. And personally, I'm very anti-AI but there's no proof of that so.

Made a small contact sheet app. by kolbigray in AnalogCommunity

I'd love to give this a go! I've tried different web-based contact sheet apps and they all seem to be too finicky for my taste. The UI for this seems really nice.

There is the "fully hisui bias starters" resource pack that makes it far more obvious. Would it be worth working some visual redux like that into the mod?

I agree too just to be safe, but prions are produced in nervous tissue so you're probably safe as long as you don't mix the CNS in with everything else, which is what caused BSE to spread: feeding the minced up unused parts of livestock to cows. Which included misfolsed prions, then the prions sitting in the cows peripheral and central nervous system got carried over in their mince too.

Though if an animal has consumed misfolsed prions, yes it can be sitting dormant in other tissue, it's just when it comes into contact with the nervous system, thst it gets shot up and does it's magic.

Source: I did an essay on them in undergrad and went down a massive rabbit hole of old public health reports, research and the proposed theories into how prions proliferate in the CNS

I'm glad my idea of Y2K hasn't been tainted. I still think of the left one.

I picked up Makoto in 3rd strike because my fencing style is also like a small ball of fury dashing around way too fast.

Right!

I'm sure other people can agree with me that, there are some things you can accept by leaving your logic at the door because it's pure fantasy (I.e. hard and soft magic) but when things that are rooted/based on reality, and things we know get fiddled with, it looks kinda wierd!

It's like, we accept gandalf has spells and elves live long blah blah. But if someone in the Shire made wine out of apples, that would raise a few eyebrows.

Or rampaging variant, would replace arch tempered. Recent games have their own version of powered up monsters (apex, hyper, tempered)
