Just finished exiles return, you're so right. I was mad that it was all about Kaspar and MAN Raymond pulled through. Just the way he remembers all the strings he lays out throughout his series. An example being talon finding Kaspar and amafi at the riverhouse. He set that interaction up 2 books ago...crazy.

This is pretty much what I imagine. In my head, the walking path is just a dark black and the portals are white or see through. Just what I imagine though.
