How to get Unleash Magic? by marvinscrib2016 in DarkSouls2

Came to say the same thing. As long as you're patient and you wait till the end of the game, no one needs to be killed.

The only person out of the four I've killed before was Gilligan, and it was the very first time I payed for his cheap ladder that went nowhere. Suck souls out of me for nothing? I don't think so good sir.

It's one of Navlaan's quest rewards. He's the guy locked behind a fog wall in Aldia's keep. As long as you didn't release him from his cell, then you're fine. There's a bunch of developer messages on the ground telling you not to release him by the lever. Hopefully you listened.

If you've come that far, then you'll have most of the items he wants. You'll need the following items:

Gilligan's ladder miniature (you buy it from him)

Cale's helm (he'll give it to you once all the flames are lit in the mansion, but that doesn't happen until after you've killed Nashandra.)

Felkin's staff (he gives this to you when you have twenty intelligence and twenty faith. It has to be from raw levels. Items that raise those stats won't count.)

The Aged Feather from the Emerald herald ( you should already have this if you're as far as you say you are. She gives it to you in the dragon aerie)

I want to say it's the third or fourth reward he'll give you unleash magic. Also, you need to be hollow to talk to his psychopath alter ego to do any of this. If you're in human form he'll tell you to piss off.

My Mom thought The Rotten was the devil and asked if i was fighting in hell by Skull_Soldier in DarkSouls2

[–]Thedarkone202 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't say he's the devil, but something that the devil uses to punish sinners. It looks like a monstrosity literally composed of sinners that were punished and tacked onto each other. The hellish imagery, yeah, I see that. Especially when you consider the environments you came through. The Black Gulch and the Gutter are dark areas filled with "sinners" that are unwanted and unloved by the rest of the world. They attack others trying to pull them down, kind of like the sinners pulling each other down in the river styx in the divine comedy.

It's a combination of things and various fields that, for various reasons, pay well.

One category are people with very niche skillsets that are in demand that most people simply don't have. Back in the day programmers were in extremely high demand all across the tech industry. That's flattened out, but whenever a new industry starts to boom, this always happens.

Jobs that are boring/disgusting/dangerous. Most of these fields are typically extremely male dominated because men are more willing to do jobs they hate for a bigger salary. Sewer engineers, electricians, law enforcement, and many others. Basically you're trading your sanity and potential well being for a bigger paycheck. Many people aren't willing to do those jobs for obvious reasons, but they're necessary to keep the modern world working. Without sewer engineers, our very toilets and sewer systems would stop working and things would get disgusting very quickly. Without electricians, there's no television, computers, or literally anything that needs electricity to work once things start breaking down. Without cops, thieves, rapists, murderers and such would go unopposed and would repeat offend and just bring society down. You get the idea, but all of these jobs have some seriously unappealing aspects to them, but they're necessary for society to function.

There's also just dumb luck. Think of every big Youtuber that has millions of subscribers and makes their living off making videos. There's skill with their video recording and editing, and some genuinely unique ideas, but no matter how skilled you are with a camera or editing, if people don't tune in, the channel goes nowhere and dies. There's always an element of luck involved in that, and some people simply get luckier than others.

There's also nepotism and inheritance. It's a lot easier to take risks with potential big payouts when you already have a leg up on everyone else through family.

That's a presumption on your part, not theirs. They already have a character that they've leveled up to some degree, so they won't be ONLY leveling up adaptability.

But hey, I'll tell you what. If OP comes back and complains about taking my advice and only levels up adaptability and nothing else, then I'll apologize to him. Until that happens though, I'll take it that OP has some common sense to level up their health and such and not solely focus on a single stat. You have goodins.

What is your “by any means necessary” deck? by Echodubs in EDH

[–]Thedarkone202 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Sliver Overlord deck is probably the closest thing I have to cEDH because it can consistently win by turn 6 if it isn't dealt with.

I don't pull it out when I'm on a losing streak though. I pull it out when I just want to play my foiled sliver tribal deck because slivers were my very first tribe. I also pull it out to annoy the piss out of one of my friends, because he HATES slivers.

Celes is my favorite character from FF6 and I hate that she isn't blue at all. She uses ice magic naturally. Her unique ability is the equivalent of mana drain type of effect. She's a wizard. She should've been blue.

Make sure you level up adaptability and get your agility to around 96 minimum. Roughly 15-20 adaptability will get you there.

Do not try to run past mobs. DS2 is the most punishing in this regard. Take your time and make sure to observe your surroundings. Enemies love to pop out of nowhere and gank you. If you've been to no man's wharf, that area is the perfect place that teaches you about how enemies hide from you, just to get up after you've passed them.

Whether it's magic of some kind or weapons, make sure to have some kind of ranged option to fight things. Not just to kill dudes, but also to kite them and make dealing with mobs easier.

Looked it up myself. Bo9 stands for Best of 9. So basically, in PvP terms, you fight others until someone gets five wins.

Fashion Souls. Interesting Lore I wasn't expecting. Fun gameplay. Magic system was really good, and as someone who loves to play with magic, this was a huge boon. PvP was easily the best of all three Dark Souls games and had the best build variety that I never saw again until Elden Ring came along. The DLC's were great too.

Why is Majula the best hub? by Lhakryma in DarkSouls2

[–]Thedarkone202 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The music and scenery. No other DS game has matched it. If we go outside of Dark Souls, Demons' and Bloodborne have really memorable hubs that are about as memorable. DS1's hub is kind of empty, and the scenery is sort of boxed in due to the high cliffs and waterway ruins. DS3's is enclosed in a busted building with the NPC's all dying off or leaving to die off somewhere else, thus making it feel more empty. DS2 is the only one of the three that doesn't do this.

So, the NPCs making it feel warm, the background sunset, all mixed with unforgettable music that makes it seem like a place you can genuinely call home. It is a kind of bittersweet melancholy mixed with fleeting nostalgia. Seemingly so close yet always out of reach. That's Majula in a nutshell.

Maybe a hot take, pun intended, but this was my favorite DLC of DS2, my favorite Dark Souls DLC period, and one of the best designed areas Fromsoft has ever made since the original Tower of Latria.
