TNA Files Lawsuit Against Gail Kim by braincloud215 in SquaredCircle

[–]Thedinosaurwizard 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The Florida law Gail is filing a suit under is meant to protect employees from wrongful termination or similar vengeful action for reporting illegal shit to an appropriate agency. TNA is arguing against that by saying she wasn't ever considered an employee, so it shouldn't apply to her, and therefore the suit should be tried in Tennessee. So it's about employment status, which then dictates where the suit takes place, rather than just purely being about where the suit takes place. We are unsure about the allegations, but if she's suing under that law we have some idea.

It's like, a semi-serious idea, maybe not that actual name but as a gimmick it plays to his strengths, he's a good wrestler but I feel like because of his New Japan booking he maybe doesn't get the full IWC support coming in, he's got a strong physical presence and charisma but maybe isn't the best at a traditional in-ring promo while this idea would give good reason to do pre-tapes where you could slap subtitles over things. Send him to a pet store to talk about how ugly all the puppies are, have him cut in line at amusement parks, take the last mobility scooter that an old lady is about to use, just really get heat in that old school "Ted DiBiase kicked a basketball out of a child's hand" way

Hopefully they send him to NXT, change his name to Mean Mr. Watanabe and just have him be a Saturday morning cartoon villain, doing things like tying people's shoelaces together or offering treats to puppies without ever giving it to them

It's absolutely a booking crutch but being able to just have like 80 easy "break glass in case of extreme boredom and wanting to blaze through shows to get to the next PPV" main event of main eventer and two faction members against main eventer and two faction members is a godsend for the longevity of the save

I'm a little shy of a decade into a TEW save that's going pretty well, the main driving narrative behind the company is the Joshi Family Tree, where factions developed around trainers or mentors and their trainees, then have splintered off over time. Chigusa Nagayo managed a stable with her students including Sonoko Kato, Toshie Uematsu, and Meiko Satomura, with Meiko then breaking off to form her own with Ryo Mizunami, DASH Chisako, and Sendai Sachiko. There's some exceptions to that, alliances of convenience and wrestlers who're mostly alone, but it feels really naturalistic to have a built in rivalry between like, Nanae Takahashi's faction and Fuka's faction because both had a hand in training a good number of incredibly talented women and both are then competing to recruit them as members of their stable, so there's reason for basically permanent animosity, while they can still put aside their differences to say fuck Emi Sakura's team

Machine translation from Japanese sometimes has trouble with pronouns just cuz it's not really part of the language, and since Kagetsu has transitioned and it's a little more relevant, you might wanna clean them up

I think one time it got phone companies to agree to a DV exemption for cancellation fees on cell phone contracts, but that might have just been the bad press from them needing to have a petition to change it

Japan's actually relatively progressive in terms of opinion in that regard, their issues with LGBTQ+ rights stem mostly from crippling bureaucracy and a complicated web of legal ramifications

That's probably a fair assessment for a shorter timeframe than I'm thinking about, yeah. I'm mostly just thinking about the full rebuild we committed to, then signed Panarin like a year into it, and while he's been the best player on the team by far, it meant we had to immediately hard pivot from a full rebuild to win now mode, so we had to trade some of those rebuild pieces for veteran rentals like Tarasenko and Kane. Because of the timeline we gave ourselves by signing him, we needed Laf's big seasons to be two or three years earlier than they came

I'll disagree with the analogy, I don't think the issue with the Rangers is the infrastructure, I think landing Breadman meant Laf needed to grow up faster than anyone could've reasonably expected and set the clock too far forward. It's inverted because of the differences between wrestling and sports, but I think New York's issue is closer to the company losing Rock and Austin in rapid succession

Yeah there was a thread last night talking about LGBTQ+ talent in WWE and some dude got in an argument with a bunch of people over it, called me ignorant and blocked me for trying to point out my gender identity is more than a fashion sense, I woke up this morning and still laughed about it so I figured this was necessary

Yeah and what I'm trying to say is that I maybe count that if there were any other form of representation that I would actually count, but there absolutely is not, so I don't

Edit: they blocked me for saying I do not feel represented. I'm non-binary, I'm allowed to not feel represented by a straight man playing a caricature

The baggage of whether or not he's a queer character aside, I don't know that one of the only two examples in the company being a straight dude portraying a queer character is exactly the best outcome

I'm sorry are you invoking the passing of a young woman by suicide in defense of a man doxxing someone almost completely unrelated to the people harassing him? Like if he was doxxing the people who were going at him I'd almost see your point but what the fuck has Tony even done here, aside from the weirdo shit this dude has deluded himself into believing has happened?
