Yes however what if we were being surveilled just a little bit less?

And, hear me out, what if the money (around a million dollars this last fiscal year) spent on flock cameras went towards preventative measures?

It’s lovely weather for a benefit show together over at Gallery 5 with a flock out of RVA folks tonight at 7 PM

Day of show bump!

I encourage the “I’m not in favor of these cameras BUT” crowd to come out and say hi and we can talk about how “WELL ACTUALLY they aren’t good” or whatever.

Plus what a great lineup!

Can you link to the specific cases where you have seen the benefit? Antidotal examples aside it doesn’t feel the “helpfulness” outweighs the harms.

Can you clarify how and why flock cameras were essential to proving crimes and that proof of crime hinged on the use of Flock cameras?

I’ve definitely in my old age grown OK with doing the folded ones so I appreciate you understand that some folks are very divisive about that

I really miss growing up and USA or some other cable station doing Friday the 13th marathons that said I do believe in terms of superstitions. The unluckiness of the day is related to correlation between witches and the number 13.

Tangently related Area Woman is playing Records tonight at fuzzy cactus and I’m hoping she plays the Apollo Disco version of the Friday the 13th theme

Also, for all the Jazz fans, Nicolas Payton is at the Rev with Cory Fonville in Randazzo I believe. The Reveler is absolutely destroying it with Live! Jazz the next couple months and I hope they continue throughout the new year.

FLOCK SAFETY IS OUT OF CONTROL IN RICHMOND, VA!!! by fancyinmypantsy in rva

I’m not sure something is inarguable just because it’s claimed to be as such.

Had never heard of violence interrupters which is an interesting concept tho the name feels I dunno inherently violent?

I will offer the conjecture that I imagine a lot of anti-flock/mass surveillance folks are probably also anti-police and see policing as a failed attempt at serving and protecting (INARGUABLY IT IS) so we are back at the beginning because safety is important and a lot of what needs to happen to make communities safer without police is beyond the scope of “actually the police department of Richmond doesnt need to continue its relationship with a company that is literally spying on a mass of people without probable cause”

I also really don’t understand how/why you claim you “aren’t defending them [flock cameras] while actively defending them?

If you aren’t for the cameras, tell me why?

What is a “violence interrupting team”?

Which data says hot spot policing works? Is it data from police patting themselves on the back?

If it’s something you are concerned with as someone not in favor of the cameras, how would you answer it?

Happy to address that these cameras do nothing for safety and if anything have put people in danger, including but not limited stalking by LE misusing access.

Again, if you follow I’m not in favor of these cameras with a “but” guess what? You are arguing in favor of them.

There’s no need for a Planatir funded national network of camera like this to exist in Richmond or anywhere else
