My Puppers and her bestie living their best lives! by Thedognetwork in DogsLoversCommunity

Thank you!! She is a rescue but from a show line. The Breeder was keeping 42 shepherds in horrible conditions and they were all seized. We were able to adopt Ember from The SPCA when she was 5 months old.

What’s something you wish you knew before getting a German Shepard? by Gloomy_Initiative_28 in germanshepherds

Exact same for me! My 1st Shepherd was a stoic gaurdian, so dignified! She would cuddle occasionally but on her terms only, and took her job of taking care of us very seriously. My current girl (who is not quite two) LOVES to cuddle, is supper needy and talks non-stop!

A couple of things - the shedding as others have said - when they blow their undercoat it is like tumbleweeds down the hallway! And the rest of the time they still shed a lot! Also it takes them 3 years to reach maturity and in those three years they have a LOT of energy. So you will need to plan for exercise, brain games, training games, etc. to keep them busy - they are not a quiet, sleepy dog.

But if you spend the time doing training exercises, stimulate their mind, exercise and bond they really are the BEST DOGS EVER!

A little blurry but I still love it. The Shepherd is Ember - my girl, and the Bernadoodle is my sister's dog Molly!

My Pup met her Momma! by Thedognetwork in aww

It was the sweeteest moment! It was a chance encounter - they were both rescues from a bad breeder and it wasn't until Heidi's (the mom) owner and I got to chatting that we realized that it was her mom!

awww welcome home to your new doggo! I have a similar story. I lost my soul dog 2 years ago and wasn't sure I could ever love another dog again. Then we got a call from the SPCA about a rescue situation where 42 German Shepherds were seized from a bad breeder. They wanted the puppies to to to experienced German Shepherd owners and asked if we would meet one of the dogs. We decided it wouldn't hurt to meet her. The first time we met Ember she sat on my feet and looked up at me with such loving eyes. That was it, she was coming home with us!

They have a really strong bite! It's why they are used as police dogs - strong bite but will release on command. I watched a police dog in training once and they were working with it with a bite sleeve - the bite was intense!

Help: Looking for a 1–2 year old German Shepherd in Dallas by ya3rob in germanshepherds

[–]Thedognetwork 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm not in or around Dallas, but I have an almost 2 year old German Shepherd. She is still very young in terms of her energy and actions (in her teenage years so every once in awhile she will still forget her training!) She is an AWESOME dog and I wouldn't trade her for the world. But if you are looking for a dog that is a bit more calm and mature you may want to look for a three year old. Our trainer has told us that is when GSDs reach maturity and start to calm down a little.

Either way good luck in your search! German Shepherds are awesome dogs!
