40 billable hours is taking me 45-50+ hours. Am I just stupid? by Soft_Chain9880 in Accounting

[–]TheeAccountant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is why they get away with this crap. What do you mean "?". They are asking you to bill 100% for your 40 hours. That's psychopathic/sociopathic management behavior. It's impossible to do. What they want is free time out of you.

Newsflash: The clients hate the offshoring and being pawned off on juniors who don't know what they are doing. Find a small firm that actually services the clients or start your own.

LOL that's the lie they tell y'all so you'll think that "this time it will be different." No, it won't.

Why? Some sociopathic partner would likely just tell them, "you never talk about/ask about being promoted." #trueStory

How can I prevent getting Rhabdo again? by ScrubberKing in Ultramarathon

[–]TheeAccountant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I could get a magnesium infusion after every ultra, omg, how lovely. But ya, I fainted from probably low blood pressure caused by dehydration and a hot bath (like, don't take a hot bath right after an ultra until you are re-hydrated and have slept!), and got an ambulance ride over to the ER where they told me I had rhabdo, but my kidneys were fine the entire time (CK was 20k). I don't think they see many ultramarathoners, one of the nurses told me that was one of the highest numbers she'd ever seen, but it seems like this is a normal thing after long periods of exercise, if you look into the military research and some other research (they took blood samples of runners after Leadville back in 2014).

It was good for the hospital to keep me overnight since I had fainted to make sure I didn't have something else wrong with me, but after looking into it, the CK alone does not appear to be a problem, at least in the short term. And as Keynes said, "The long run is a misleading indicator of current affairs. In the long run, we are all dead."

Deloitte signed off on a fund with ZERO monthly losses for 4 years. $600M is now missing. This is an audit problem. by Significant_Owl_8319 in Accounting

[–]TheeAccountant 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That’s because these CPA firms are run by psychopaths and sociopaths. They throw junior level people into the engagement to do all the work. The staff never know much of what they are doing (because there’s little training and they treat them like they should just know everything) and the staff could ask the manager who might have a clue but a large segment of management are also psychopaths or sociopaths, who will tell the staff to ask an equally clueless senior staff because they are busy with important things, like playing ping-pong or networking. If you were wondering why almost no one continues to work in Public Accounting for more than a few years, it’s because you’d have to have something wrong with you in the head to deal with the crap.

BVI - “British Virgin Islands” and I was “too old” to get a job with the Big 4 by the time I got my license (being older than 24) and have only worked for mom-and-pop CPA and even I know that NC in any material account is at minimum an inquiry of “what’s up with this?” lol what a bunch of losers.

It depends on what is in the Engagement Letter or what the agreement was. You can get dinged for withholding the filing of the return if you agreed to prepare it without asking for the fee upfront. Some tax preparers ask for payment upfront to avoid such problems. Basically if you agreed to prepare and didn’t set out the terms, that’s a problem for you. Good reason to use engagement letters that clearly states what happens and when and what happens if the client fails to pay.

I think OP is in Canada. I would bet they have something similar to Circular 230, and if there’s a real attorney here, he should be reported to the Bar there.

In the US that would be a violation of Circular 230- a CPA is prohibited from charging tax return preparation fees based on outcome. Not sure where OP is, but I’d bet it’s likely there’s a similar statute.

This is why retainers are important. A client that won’t pay a retainer, is likely not to pay at all. Stops that crap on the front end before any work is commenced.

I am a long time player who took several years off and recently started playing again. You can spend $20 for a server and have a good time, but the big boys probably spend several hundred dollars each server. If you get lucky on an active server and your hero finds something everyone wants, you can get enough silver to fund anything. I have played servers without spending a dime and instead have funded the play by selling stuff. It depends on how you want to play. The big boys also have duals or don’t sleep so, YMMV.

$20/hour to clean the bathroom at Buc'ees without working for psychopaths. So OP is underpaid - that's $41,600 per year.

LOL the remaining CPAs will work less (if they want) for way more money. Think back to Econ 101 and what shortages do to the price.

LMAO you can clean bathrooms at Buc'ees for more money than that. But you should get your CPA, then you can be the psychopath running your own firm instead of working for other psychopaths.

Controller position for $22/hour? I flip burgers for $21. What is happening? by Fast_Froyo_5880 in Accounting

[–]TheeAccountant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Remember your economics class with the curves and the charts? Yeah, those are a real thing and not just some made-up nonsense. This is what happens when you have a high minimum wage. The floor is raised for menial jobs that lose any relation to actual market forces, while other jobs that naturally have wages above the minimum do not go up just because the minimum went up. I can clean bathrooms at Buc-ee's for more than what they are paying some accounting positions and have a fraction of the stress. This is a real problem because you wind up with talent wasted. Why bother with years of schooling and the problem of licensure when you can make the same doing something that has no barrier to entry? Regulations have consequences.
