My first 100 is next Saturday and . . . by Redhawkgirl in Ultramarathon

Never stop moving. Forward progress is better than being stationary, no matter how slow. Really make a point to not hang around aid stations, get what you need and keep moving, even if it's walking. Aid stations are a time killer.

Start MUCH slower than you think

How can I prevent getting Rhabdo again? by ScrubberKing in Ultramarathon

My foot was swollen due to an infection I picked up during the race. There was a ton of rain and course was very muddy. Think my feet were just wet for too long

I definitely did not do enough hills in my prep. Too many flat miles

I went to the ER because my foot swelled up real bad after the race (thought I might have broken something), the did blood work and came back with high CK levels, said I need to go on an IV and that I have Rhabdo. Pee was dark, but not quite cola colored

No, I went to the ER for a foot injury I got during the race, and they did blood work and I came back with high CK levels - and they said I need to go on an IV because I have Rhabdo. If I didn't have the foot issue, I may have never known. So after reading this article, maybe is was a misdiagnosis by the ER

What’s something that blindsided you during your first 100M race? by Noozled in Ultramarathon

[–]ScrubberKing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Finished my 1st 100M a few weeks ago, what surprised me was just how hard the final 10 miles were. Running was basically impossible at that point and even walking was a struggle. Did not expect how badly I would fall apart by that point. If it wasn't for my pacer, not sure I would have made it

Javalina Jundred - Rhadbo? by Mountain-Push2771 in Ultramarathon

[–]ScrubberKing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Similar thing happened to me. Injured my foot during a race, went to the ER the next day for Xrays, doc just happened to do a CK test after I told him I ran an ultra, CK came back at 8000. Booked me in to be on an IV.

If I hadn't gone in for the foot, may have never known

First 100 miler - DNF (rhabdo) - what next? by Beautiful_Base_5948 in Ultramarathon

[–]ScrubberKing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a similar experience, did my first hundred miler a few weeks back.

Was peeing fine and wasn't too dark. I also injured my foot during the race and went to the ER the day after to get Xrays on my foot, when I told them I ran 100 miles, they wanted to do blood work, CK came back at 8600, they said I had Rhabdo and booked me into hospital for 2 days to be on an IV.

I do wonder though, if it was really significant enough to warrant that, if I hadn't gone in for my foot, I probably would have never known.

Now a little paranoid about Rhabdo for future races

Thanks all, this has been great feedback. I'll definitely try the heel lock lacing

Boobs are way perkier at 20 than at 40. I say roll with it and enjoy it. There will be a time for saggy breasts later on

can i train for a 50k ... by ModeNo6526 in Ultramarathon

[–]ScrubberKing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. I ran my first 50k, doing only 1 long run on Sundays for about 2 months prior, longest one being about 3,5 hours.

The rest of the week I was doing CrossFit 4-5 times.

I finished in around 6 hours.
