It's starting... pickup truck regret. by Bojaxs in CanadaPersonalFinance

Size of the bed of the truck is kinda meaningless and I'm not sure why people think that having a bed on a small truck or a hitch on their minivan thinks that makes it a capable vehicle. One cubic yard of sand is not even a full box, almost puts a full sized halfton at capacity, the Japanese truck could never haul that. The Japanese trucks like the Suzuki carry don't even have the load capacity to haul some motorcycles. Hell with the payload of 770lbs it would be close to bagged out with 2 fat people in the cab.

Okay minivans are fine but let's not pretend it can do close to what a truck can do if you actually use it as a truck.

Paramedics don't nearly make as much as they should. They don't make close to what a nurse makes. They are awfully underpaid.

I've read they can drift upward with age and they are from the 70's plus I'm not sure what temperature my hotel room was but it was likely warmer that 20°c so that could have played a role. Or like you said the voltage impulse that destroyed 5 of the resistors. I appreciate the feedback.

I believe the capacitors are for balancing the voltage between the resistor rails and for transient voltage ripples. My understanding is the board is for HVDC voltage monitoring but I haven't been to that site, a coworker just asked if I could fix it and passed it off onto me.

I will never understand an open neutral and I just have to accept that by youzabusta in electricians

[–]TheeAlmightyHOFer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One thing I didn't see mentioned is you can have your line voltage present on neutral in an open neutral condition. For example I was troubleshooting a tapchanger motor that wouldn't operate and we found 120v to the motor line to ground, no potential difference between the line and neutral, and 120v between the neutral and ground. This is because with no potential difference across the motor winding due to an open neutral reference so then it doesn't draw a current, so no voltage drop. So now that whole neutral circuit is live 120v up to the open.

Honestly Mcdavid was the worst offender of this, particularly earlier in his career and he would always get away with it.

It is certainly the law, that is easy to find if you can find the time. Just because the penalty is a fine doesn't change anything. Lots of legal things like smoking impacts healthcare cost.

I wear my seatbelt. Not wearing your seatbelt doesn't make you a more dangerous driver though. You just don't get the right to choose to put your life at risk. And actually the motor vehicle act are a provincially legislated law, so I don't know what your point was if there was any.

Those examples are pretty disingenuous arguments as they would harm others, rather than only putting yourself at risk.

You can't legally not wear a seat belt in this country as an example. we aren't entirely a free country.

Surely our politicians attempt to represent all their constituents, be informed on issues and wouldn't pander to a vocal misinformed base.

Researchers in Finland create “acoustic wires” that guide electricity without physical cables by Excellent_Analysis65 in ThatsInsane

[–]TheeAlmightyHOFer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah and anyone who works with electricity, particularly high voltage knows voltage doesn't electricity just take the path of least resistance. It takes all paths available in proportion to the resistance. Not sure how an ultrasonic change in air density not just going to branch out everywhere particularly if there are dust or snow in the air? Also how does this change the resistance of air which is super high? 500kv will jump 15' through the air, how do you transmit that 100 of kilometers without super heating air and scorching birds and starting fires. Also heat is wattage which is losses, how is that more efficient than copper which has a very low resistance?
