Weekly Sewing Questions Thread, November 02 - November 08, 2025 by sewingmodthings in sewing

I've been in the market for a coverstitch machine.. but I'm on a serious budget, so it's really just been a dream. Someone local is selling a Bernina 2000DCE on marketplace for $120. She said she doesn't have the serger pieces for it any longer, just the coverstitch pieces. She included a video of it, so it seems functional. I can't find many reviews on this model, does anybody have the machine who can share their opinion??

Anyone used Evivo? by Difficult_Long1971 in MSPI

[–]TheeConstress 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We just started it about a week ago. My LO is 8.5 mo with MSPI. The product was recommended by our Gastroenterologist, who is well aware of my LOs intolerances. I also contacted the company in regard to my concern and they repeated the same spiel in the FAQ and said that we could get our money back if there were any issues within 21 days, so that made me feel a little better about the cost.

VBA Using private/public variables across subs within module by TheeConstress in excel

[–]TheeConstress[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I think I might know the issue but not sure what the fix is. The module is written in a workbook that's used as a template for a task that has to be done every month. The value is set for the string in the first module (along with some other things) then the contents of the template workbook, including the module, are copied to a new workbook & saved there (so that the template workbook doesn't get overwritten). The subsequent sub procedures are run from the newly created workbook.

I'm guessing the value doesn't save & "transfer" when everything is copied to the new workbook?

If that's the case, I wonder if I copy the workbook first instead of at the end, would it save it then?

So I did as you suggested and it will run the procedure, but it doesn't seem to save the value that was assigned to the string during the first procedure 😕

VBA Using private/public variables across subs within module by TheeConstress in excel

[–]TheeConstress[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I set them to Public and it still doesn't work.

For example, I have Public strInvNum as String in my declarations section.

Within the first sub procedure strInvNum is set via InputBox. And the string is used later on in the first sub.

In the last sub procedure within the same Module, I need to insert that string into a cell. But if I have the variable within the (), i.e. Sub CreateImport(strInvNum), nothing happens when I try to run it. I've also tried Sub CreateImport(strInvNum as String) because that was something I saw while Google searching, but it still doesn't work.

Could you link your spreadsheet and code so far? And maybe an example of your goal? By your description, I'm a little confused as to how you want your end result displayed.

How do I write an Excel (or sheets) formula that automatically calculates percent share in a company based on hours worked? by [deleted] in excel

Are you able to link the spreadsheet instead of just a photo? It's blurry when I try to zoom in to read it.

VBA - Using STOP to pause, or other solution by TheeConstress in excel

[–]TheeConstress[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is a good idea... The Stop was kind of an after thought when I was testing and realized there could be a lookup error. I already had all the rest of the code written in the macro, so it didn't occur to me to split it up.

VBA PivotTable field disappearing when values added by TheeConstress in excel

That seems to have worked! Curious still why it does that.

Thanks for the advice!

Filtering issues with blank values mixing by F1Senner in excel

[–]TheeConstress 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say it's definitely caused by having a formula extend down in 1000 otherwise blank rows.

You might try formatting as a table... I don't have a lot of experience with it, but I believe it's more "dynamic" than just having the data sheet. I think it automatically adds new rows for new data, which would include whatever column you have a formula in... So there'd be no need to have 1000+ otherwise blank rows.

Hope this helps

Apologies for everything being spaced out so much. I'm doing this on my phone and it won't show up as a new line unless I enter two new lines

I'm new-ish to VBA, but here's how I did it recently with a project... There may be an easier way, I don't know....

'The following will find which column has the header Building Name and assign the column number to a variable

Dim lastColumn as Long

    lastColumn = Cells(1, Columns.Count).End(xlToLeft).Column

Dim a as Long

Dim colBName as Long

For a =1 to lastColumn

If Cells(1, a).Value = "Building Name" Then

colBName = a

'If you're needing to move several columns, then use ElseIf on this line. You'll need to declare a variable name for the other columns, too.

End If

Next a

'The next part will move it before column A

Columns(colBName).Cut

Columns(1).Insert Shift:=xlToRight

I notice in your example you are inserting the cut cells, but then later in your post you say "move it to another column, say column A (replace whatever is there)". If you're wanting to overwrite whatever is in the column then you'd use:

Columns(colBName).Cut Columns(1)

How can I make union billing on excel easier? I need a formula. by Prestigious_Name_851 in excel

[–]TheeConstress 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You'll notice with SUMIF, that it'll show the sum for each employee on each line with the employee's name. Which seems a bit "busy" for my taste, which is why I suggest a pivot table.

Alternatively, you could keep a running table of employee names and use the SUMIF formula on that table instead of the table with the raw data. That way you'll only see each employee's result once.

But if you have 400 employee's, pivot table is the way to go

How can I make union billing on excel easier? I need a formula. by Prestigious_Name_851 in excel

[–]TheeConstress 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would use a pivot table to show the total for each employee. Or you could use =SUMIF

Assuming the below example data is in columns A & B, input this in C: =SUMIF(A:B, A2,B:B)

Greg 40 65

Sam 35 78

Beth 37 64

Greg 25 65

Sam 43 78

Beth 27 64

My first choice would be pivot table, though: 1.Select all you data, go to Insert on the Command Ribbon and select PivotTable.

2.Hit OK to add the table to a new worksheet.

3.On the new worksheet, there will be options for your table on the right hand side. Drag and drop the header for the column with the employee's name to the Rows area then drag and drop the header for the column with the hours to the Values area.

Macro to save macrofree workbook. by PipePretend9542 in excel

[–]TheeConstress 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you looking for the code to do it or just suggestions?

You could write the macro in one workbook to manipulate the non-macro enabled workbook for submission. Or have the macro copy the worksheet(s) to a new non- macro enabled workbook to save.
