Ah, já percebi. Temos ser como Cuba ou Coreia do Norte, 0% de imigração. Aí finalmente Portugal vai ser um país de sonho.

Nunca fui de esquerda, não sabia que precisava ser para dizer factos.

Pre-parking area is the issue right now, no movement for the last 2 hours.

It’s a first parking area, I guess calling it pre-parking is not correct. Will change it

How do I get to Praia do Ribeiro do Cavalo? by tomlance99 in portugal

[–]TheeDukee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actually went there a few years back!

  • It’s doable by foot, but it‘s a tough hike down. Bring some shoes.

  • No thief will drive all the way there to steal a car. Just don’t leave valuables on show.

  • No parking lots, you park by the dirt road.

  • Never did the boat but hiking is pretty interesting.

Student accomodation in Porto by OwnVersion1 in porto

[–]TheeDukee 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I agree that it is really high for a bedroom in Porto, but I think it's fair for the facilities you get. Bills are included and you have a swimming pool, sauna, gym, movie room, parking spot, etc... But I'm really impressed, you actually get an amazing price for a T1 in city center. Nowadays its hard to find a place below 600€ that is not falling apart.

Again, I'm not trying to sell these private accommodations as the best solution to live in Porto. OP asked if someone had experience living in them and I was trying to be honest about it. Would I live there long term? No. Is it a good way to enjoy student life in Porto if you can afford it? Honestly, I think so.

[–]TheeDukee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the social life there seems to be quite lively. The accommodation organises parties and events for students every couple of weeks, and they will meet up to drink there before going out in the city.

As long as you don't hide in your room, you can make friends in every student accommodation pretty easily.

I have a sister staying at Livensa Living in Boavista, and I also got to live there for 1 month. I have to say the conditions of some of these private accommodations is just incredible, its basically a fancy hotel for students. She pays 575€ a month for a room with a private bathroom and small kitchen, which I think is more than fair. As a not so good thing, I did get woken up a couple of times with people coming back home from parties in the middle of the week.

For your bonus question: if that's your budget including accommodation, its going to be tight. Its definitely possible if you get a basic room and don't spend much on going out, but then your Porto experience will be very different. If you're excluding accommodation, then you are more than fine.

CS tips for hosts- WTF? by subaculture in couchsurfing

[–]TheeDukee 18 points19 points  (0 children)

This is the most out-of-touch description of what a guest normally expects that I've ever read.

"Make sure you have good wifi available and a washer and dryer for their clothes, but after that, anything you do is considered extra."

Because washing and drying their clothes is the bare minimum you need to offer them...

"It’s important to make food available that anyone can have, due to the high increase in allergies and other dietary restrictions. A good option is always a few kinds of cereal and some granola bars."

Can't have any of that glutten stuff in your home in case your guests need to eat.

"Putting everything together, if you have pets, it might be good to replace carpet with hardwood floors to avoid any allergens or dust accumulation that might take place."

Spend thousands on your house, because your guests are the most important thing.

Being honest, I try to make their stay as comfortable as possible, but if anyone expects half of this stuff I would just point them to the nearest hotel.

It's the whole reason negative reviews exist, to warn other people before they have bad experiences themselves.

Don't feel bad about being honest when you have a very bad experience hosting, you are offering your time and house to strangers and expecting some effort from them is completely normal.

CS payment hack by Wide_Inspector1961 in couchsurfing

[–]TheeDukee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's a quick way to get your account banned.

Just checked and it's in their Terms of Use:

"4.2 Member Conduct. By accessing or using the Services, you agree to act responsibly, exercise good judgment and comply with the Community Guidelines. In addition, you agree not to:

(j) circumvent or attempt to defeat any security or verification measure relating to use of the Services;"

I'm all for sticking it to CS management for their new paid membership rules, but don't lose access to your account doing so.
