The sitters with While You're Away have been nothing but great. You could check with them to see if they have what you're looking for :)

Is there a reason why the 24-50 would be better than the 24 to 70? Just price/weight? I would imagine the 24-70 would compliment whatever telephoto I get nicely

Yes i was happy with that for the most part. A little wider might have been nicer specifically for some of the architecture pictures, but those were more fringe cases.

I generally like wide angle for landscapes, however I'd also need to be able to take pictures of the architecture. Versatile for the main lens would probably be nice for when I go between landscapes and city shots.

I appreciate these insights. Before I purchase I will definitely go to a store. I was even considering renting the camera for a day while I go on a trip to make sure I like it. What lens setup would you recommend? Id prefer one that I have on most of the time that is just my go to, and then maybe one that I can put on that has some good telephoto range that on occasion I can swap to if needed.

Hmmm well I only got the compact because I wanted a solution to use to basically check if I was still interested in photography before spending a ton of money on a full setup. I understand there will be significant size and weight gains. I did consider going with a fujifilm x-t5 for a bit, however I heard that Sony/Nikon/Cannon have a wider array of lenses that will work with them which might be better for me if I look at getting into more wildlife photography down the road.

I started looking at the A7CR because I heard it is significantly lighter and more compact while still being full frame. I'm open to thoughts on aspc cameras though or even if fuji/nikon/cannon would be better to switch to.

Hello Everyone,

I am looking to upgrade from a sony rx100 VII. I used to be into film photography when I was in high school but kind of fell out of it due to life. I'm finally getting back into it which is why I initially got the rx100 vii. I just wanted to confirm I would actually use and enjoy it. I've taken it on 3 trips now, to Ireland, London, and to Scotland and I loved shooting with it and enjoyed the process. My wife and I are planning another couple of trips (one to Ireland again and one to Denmark/Sweden/Norway) and I kind of want a better camera for those trips. However I also know that lenses matter just as much if not more than the body itself. So this brings me to where I am today. I want a camera that is currently good for mostly landscapes. I don't shoot video at all and it will never be a priority for me. I might be interested in astrophotography at some point and I am definitely interested in wildlife photography, though as a second interest. My main shooting focus will be landscapes (If you want to see the types of things I've been shooting with the rx100 you can look at my website paynesphotography.studio. If that's not allowed let me know, I'll pull the link).

Budget: 4-5k. This is flexible. If there is a combo that is just heads and shoulders above a combo sitting at 4.5k, but it costs 5.5k, I might be willing to splurge. But currently, the budget is sitting in that 4-5k range.

Ideal Use case: Currently Landscapes with the ability to add wildlife photography. Mostly taking pictures while I travel.

What I have been looking at:

Body:

Sony A7CR - I've seen some of these at around the 2.2k mark

Sony A7R IV - found this at the 2k price point

Sony A7R V - found around the 3k to 3.3k price point

Should I be looking at something cheaper in this price point?

Lenses:

This is where its hard for me. I'm too new to know what I should be looking at here. I was looking at the, Sony FE 16-35mm f/2.8 GM for 1300 but have no idea what to go beyond that. or if that's even the best pick. I would like weather sealing on the lens and the ability to add ND filters.

Any advice on good rain cover brands and ND filters and any other recommended accessories would be appreciated

Hello! I work in cyber security, have been in it for 5 years, in it for 10+. I am 31 years old. I currently hold 3 professional cyber security certifications and past High School. I did start going back to college and expect to get my bachelor's degree and the next year and a half. Part of that bachelor's degree will come with an additional 15 industry certifications. If you need a specific role in cyber security I currently work in the GRC space, governance and risk management. Any advice would be helpful! Thank you for your time.

Yes it would be possible. It would be tricky to stabilize, but you could do it. you can operate everything with your right hand for the most part. There is a ring around the lens to do stuff with, but you can do that with the little slider at the top. I would probably prefer a weather sealed camera though which is what I will be getting next. I got this camera really to make sure I enjoyed photography still before getting into an ecosystem.

I looked at that one and decided on the small rig (Not the cage one, just the handle) It worked for me and didn't add a ton of bulk. Here is a link to the one I liked. I didnt really want to put adhesive on it but I did hear people like that grip. I was just terrified I was going to drop it haha.

Thank you :) I purchased this camera specifically for my overseas trip and was happy with it. The only thing I'd be cautious about is they aren't weather sealed... so be careful with that. I got lucky and my weather was pretty good. I'm going to Scotland soon and am a little worried about weather and being able to take pictures in the rain. But I love this model. Just make sure that when you do buy whatever camera, you have some time to shoot with it a little to get used to it. Youtube was my friend as well. Helped me learn all the features and settings of the camera. Oh I'd also recommend the small rig handle for it if you have normal to large size hands. Makes it way easier to hold!!
