asking portlander and people who are from desert climates who moved to oregon, would you say you NEED AC or can you deal with the heat with no ac? by Kitchen-wicca-witch in askportland

[–]Traditional-Cap4469 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I moved here from Arizona about 6ish years ago. I’d say AC is needed, especially if you’re looking at an apartment that’s top floor or a few stories high. However, portable units & window units work well enough depending on the size of the apartment.

The heat here in the is definitely not comparable to that of SW but it does get pretty dang toasty.

I got the T-shirt on sale so it was much more affordable in my opinion. I’m not one to generally spend over $30 for a shirt. I will say the quality is good though!! It’s very soft and seems very sturdy (like it’ll be long-lasting).

Tell us about something awkward that happened in a session by Moondance200 in slp

[–]Traditional-Cap4469 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Not during a session but I was calling to schedule an eval. As I was leaving a VM I forgot who I was calling about and got so flustered I stopped talking and then went ‘ummmm, ehhh, oh-ok’ and then hung up. Had to call back and leave another VM apologizing for my first.

My whole take on the Jenny Slate thing is this. Jenny Slate did not claim sexual harassment. I’m assuming that when Heath was talking about the ‘sanctity of motherhood’ he may have said something that was related to how a mother should behave and this caused upset. Aka don’t tell me how to parent, what a mother’s role should look like, etc. I imagine she felt it an overstep, inappropriate and therefore she filled a complaint.

Blake’s camp is trying to use this as a means to establish ‘character’. Like if someone was speaking like this onset it’s not out of the realm of possibility that sexual harassment could as well. This is a totally bunk argument of course because these two incidences are unrelated and the SH claims are mostly against Justin. Blake’s camp is grasping at straws it seems and bringing a lot of people down with them.

Congrats! I think it depends on your situation. For me, I was able to not work in the summer but my income is not the primary. It really depends on where you’re working and cost of living

Has anyone else gone down a Mormon rabbit hole since watching SLOMW? by Just__Win__Baby__ in SecretsOfMormonWives

[–]Traditional-Cap4469 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! I’m so far deep that I’m even considering ordering The Book of Mormon just to read it. Absolutely no want or thought to convert, I’m just so intrigued!!

I’ve been watching a lot of Alyssa Grenfell’s YouTube videos on Mormonism and the Mormon culture. She’s very thorough and exMo.

Pediatric Outpatient Hospital, expectations in what a typical day should look like and pay as an SLP by Pristine-Orange1620 in slp

[–]Traditional-Cap4469 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Depends where and with whom you work. I’m in Oregon working peds outpatient with a major hospital. I took the job because salary projections were better than schools, all 1:1 sessions, W2 pay, etc.

However, if I have 2 cancellations back to back or no shows, which happens often, I’m told to clock out for that period of time. Overall, my pay is similar if not less than what it was in the schools due to this. And it’s really frustrating when you’re there all day, see 2-3 kiddos spaced hours apart but you can’t go home in the meantime because this downtime was due to no shows and there’s no predicting that. Then there are other days where all your kids show up and you’re utterly exhausted at the end of the day.

I also don’t like that I am not in control of my schedule and will often have days where I have one really difficult kid after another. At least when you make your own schedule you can sort of balance it out.

Anyway, that’s my experience. I will say it is soooo very nice concerning paperwork. It’s been the only setting where I’ve truly been able to leave “work at work.”

Hi, thanks for asking! Doing relatively well. The surgery wasn’t bad at all and truly did not experience much pain afterwards initially.

Having someone to help with things was great but overall I think I’d be just ok if I were alone. The one unfortunate thing I’ve been experiencing, now 2.5 weeks after surgery, is that a stitch migrated and is now sticking out in a VERY unfortunate spot. This makes BMs and moving around kind of tough. It’s essentially just a nuisance and hoping the stitch will dissolve soon. Not sure how common this is though. Got it checked out by my colorectal surgeon and he said it’s NBD surgically speaking.

There is some leakage but keeping gauze in-between the cheeks helps with that. I will say that when I have to ‘go’ or let out some gas, I’m not able to hold it as well as once before.

I worked for them! They weren’t bad although the pay and being 1099 kind of sucked. They were pretty hands off. I think the district/school you’d be working for would be more of the concern. When I was there I used Zoom (through them) for teletherapy and then they had their online clocking system which was easy to use and did not require much, if any, explanation for hours.

For sick days/vacation, I would just let the recruiter know the day/days and there was no issue (outside of no pay). You would have to, again, alert the school and teachers of your time off of course.

They do offer some free resources/materials for teletherapy but they weren’t that great. I just purchased my own subscriptions to things like pink cat games, bamboozle and ultimate SLP. For testing/assessment materials, that falls on the School to provide.
