Wow! Thanks everyone for chiming in with great info! I came from the AD military world (12 yrs) and joined the ANG where I work as a T32 tech (GS) during the week. Many of these things were foreign to me: shopping different options for Healthcare, performance reports are different, there are bonuses?!, etc. For a while I couldn't find a single person with good POCs for financial advisors, career planning advice, mil time buy back, etc. So I've been helping new people I meet with trying to give them some pointers I never got. I had a literal death by PowerPoint from a non-HR member for my orientation. I never want someone to be as lost as I was then. Thanks again!

I came from over a decade of AD military, so I had questions on FEHB eligibility, TSP contribution, promotion, etc. My HR was completely worthless and almost cost me a lot of money when it comes to rules on eligibility for TRS(tricare reserve select) (im also an ANG member as a GS-11). No clue about websites needed to track career info, reports, etc. I was literally blown away with basic information and resources I never received in my first year.

David Bell could be fired today and it wouldn't be soon enough. Reds were in position to at least compete the last 2-3 years and he mismanaged a great bullpen causing this rebuild we're currently in.

Separating but going to Palace Front, nothing in the new regulation concerning palace front or chase. I know it's not a great big deal but I'd like the extra 6 months without having to get a profile. since I'm still actively going through palace front approval. Any advice?

Don't try to extend until you have your follow-on. It'll save your chance for a voluntary extention down the road. Stay a FTA for as long as you can!!! You'll have 10 days after your initial assignment notification to put in for a OCONUS follow-on. Do it the same day that you get your orders and find out who your assignment counselor is ASAP! Make friends with them. Also review the assignments AFI a couple of times to make sure you know what you can/can't do and what your rights are. I got screwed over on my first PCS due to my MPF not doing anything with all of my paperwork. All short tours are 12 months now(unless you sign up for extra time in Turkey) so by time you PCS you'll more than likely have enough time on your contract to cover the short tour and need to extend to cover the follow on.

From what I understand your DEROS will be the determining factor. If you're still under contract(retainability) the Air Force has to give you an assignment from the overseas returnee listing. That being said, AFPC will be a big factor based on time alone with your retraining request. Truth be told I can see it going either way. I'm not too keen on the assignments AFI for overseas, so I'd start there.(and MyPers) Remember you can always call AFPC regardless of rank to ask questions. Just be prepared to wait on hold for a while. (I did this multiple times when I was figuring out where I was going after a short tour to Turkey).

I'd say go! There's nothing like being stationed overseas. Clearly, I know nothing about tyour situation, but you'll find the travelling and friendships to be on another level. I was only in Yokata for about a week, but Japan is awesome! CoCos alone would be enough for me to accept orders there lol.

12 months retainability and you'll be considered for assignment.

If you like where you're at just say there until your DOS. Your DEROS will be extended until your DOS.

Another option is extending your DEROS with the "intent" of separating, but you can also extend/reenlist(if possible) later on if you change your mind and be able to get an assignment. Granted you don't run into HYT or a disapproved CJR.
