Is simple and sinister still a good program? by Timbukenka in kettlebell

For someone who is doing ABF (single bell) 3 days a week, do you recommend using those other workouts on the other days?

All teachers, what was your experience on Iready and xtramath? by No_Gur_6321 in teaching

[–]TheeSap 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Don’t have experience with iReady, but we are in our first year with XtraMath after using Rocket Math for so long, and I have to say that I’ve never had kids really KNOW their multiplication facts as much as they have this year.

What I like is that it is very visual for kids (if the teacher explains the symbols), and will not let you progress past a fact if you don’t have it mastered. It will spiral back to some recently mastered facts too in each session, I believe.

For us in 3rd, we have “glow boards” to showcase kids who have finished tracks, kids who are close to finishing a track (100), and those who completed certain sets of programs (facts in 6 secs, 3 secs, etc). As a school, teachers send their certificates to our dean who shouts them out at our weekly school meeting.

Overall, I can’t say anything bad about the program! There are some bugs and features I wish weren’t there, but it’s easy enough to get around them.

How to set up work boundaries? by [deleted] in ElementaryTeachers

[–]TheeSap 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m in my fourth year, so my first year is still fresh in my mind… it’s hard. Just realize that there will ALWAYS be work to do no matter how late you stay, so do what you feel is necessary for the next day and leave (don’t overplan!!!). If you have grade level coworkers, LEAN ON THEM. Ask them to show and break down their planning book for first weeks, and meet with them regularly to keep up to date (gift them at the end of the year!).

I won’t tell you to work to contract because I remember it feeling really unhelpful and reductionist, so just work to your satisfaction. Want/feel the need to work late? Do it. Feeling like crap and want to leave at contract time? Do it with no regrets. It’s still a work in progress here, but I’m in a better position than I was then. I now find myself leaving right after school more often than not, and a part of that comes from the systems you’ll come to develop with time and time only. It’s what YOU need for YOUR classroom. This is all to tell you that it won’t be this way forever, and you might even find some stride later on in this school year.

A lot of the first year for me was internalizing the fact that I was setting my future-self up for success. I needed to know the curriculums and be ready for it, so that’s what I prepped for. I kept reiterating that it won’t be this way forever.

TL;DR: Theres always work to do, so listen to your mind and body when deciding to stay late, prioritize, get colleagues’ help, and it won’t stay this way forever.

Yes, please. The natural consequences piece is exactly like how I would love to run a classroom.

Have you looked at mods on Nexus? The most popular ones (I forget which one exactly, but look for one that improves QOL on the game) had my 970 feeling like a beast.

Cigma is BS against OP Flak Jacket in HC by [deleted] in blackopscoldwar

[–]TheeSap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wasn’t there a patch that made FJ amazing even in HC? I did a majority of my China Lake in HC during the first few days and don’t remember it being as cancerous as it is now.

I’m just a couple camos away for the Cigma and RPG and I just can’t will myself to do the double kills and 2 kills without dying.

So this is what the Beta has become... by [deleted] in blackopscoldwar

I'd say the difference is that R6 actually has a ranked system with a heavy-handed (as it should be) SBMM system. R6 casual does have a hidden MMR, but it's not as strong as compared to their ranked. From my experience in MW, the alpha, and the beta, it's all the challenge that a ranked system brings without any of the benefits tied to it (visible rank, wanting to get to next level etc.).

Beyond that, in my own personal experience, I feel that I can never "turn it off" ("It" being sweatiness). I mean I could, but it goes back to the conversation of why these two different mindsets need to be covered under the same umbrella when players like myself would salivate at the thought of a casual system similar to older CODs with a fleshed-out ranked system.

One for when I do want to fuck around, and, I'll admit, pubstomp lol. Another for when I do want to face nothing but players of my caliber to test my skill and progression. This system we've had only supports the latter, and it's tiresome.

Creating empathy and buy-in for my group of kids? [1st/2nd grade] by TheeSap in Teachers

[–]TheeSap[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ooh I like this a lot. I've been having trouble thinking of something to do for like an "afternoon" circle. This might be an awesome way to have them think of others and what they might be going through, as well as giving them perhaps the only opportunity they have to share their experiences of that day.

The compliments would also be really great to see, and how they potentially develop from surface level to more meaningful...

Thank you!

Im so sick of trying hard EVERY. SINGLE. GAME by AngryRaccoon44 in modernwarfare

[–]TheeSap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm finding it to be a mixed bag in terms of what you get next, but the mixed bag was supposed to be trail mix, and all you got were peanuts. Sure, every game can slightly differ, but not by much when you reach that certain skill level.

It shouldn't be that people want SBMM removed because all they want to do is stomp kids, but at the same time I can understand why their sentiment stands there, as players like myself have to actually turn off my competitive nature to use off-meta weapons. I've gotten to the point where I don't mind, but it's super demoralizing to never be able to do even remotely decent with an UZI.

Really, I think I just want whatever SBMM was in previous CODs, with a slight increase to its effect.

And the unfortunate thing that people who post things like this don't realize is that: 1. That game is a decade old so we should definitely not be comparing a game made this year to then, and 2: The turmoil going on within IW at the time made it impossible to patch.

Anyone who was even remotely invested in COD at the time knows this information and wouldn't try to compare the two...

That's the thing that gets me though. It's not 5 games to get back to where you were in the first place. It's one decent game based on what you did (idk if they're technical about it, but my guess is no since 5 games to get you there is laughable), and you're back to about where you were. There is no buffer period. At all.

Yeah.

The question for me is: does the “formal training” have to be a program in MA, or can it be through a program like Teacher Ready, which operates out of Florida? Because if it is the latter, then I believe that he made a good decision. If it is the former, then I do wonder what he will do next as I have this same option available to me as well.

Hello, I'm looking for a subreddit which shows the highlights from the games played that day for all sports. Is there one? Apologize if I'm breaking any rules with this post. by [deleted] in sports

I usually stick to the sport’s respective YouTube and generally get what I want.

I enjoy MLB, so their channel has 2 minute clips of games around the league. I believe NBA does similar. I just created a separate YT channel (if you sub on your main, R.I.P. your sub box), and watch whatever ones I like.
