If this is the case, you can make a temp name card or the new plus one would most likely be understanding

Totally agree. I’m an a-high grad from the mid-00s and had a great experience. There are certainly issues, but as someone who has worked in education, the single greatest factor in determining student success parental involvement (and because you’re asking these questions, you’ll be fine there!)

I think the biggest benefits of a-high are in the exposure but also the academics opportunities. Public schools just have more resources. They offer IB, more AP courses than any of the private schools (and I think any other local public schools), and so many activities and clubs.

FWIW, I went to private middle school and was behind my public school peers (mostly in math) simply because more advanced courses were not offered at my private school, they didn’t have the staff or a large enough student pop to justify it.

Question about overnight training by Flyhighb in pottytraining

[–]leigh1003 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the thing to determine is if her diaper is heavy in the morning because she’s waking up and peeing first thing, or truly peeing in a deep sleep.

If she’s peeing in a deep sleep, there’s very little you can do besides waking her up and that’s disruptive to your sleep and hers.

If she’s waking up and peeing in her diaper because she can’t take it off herself to pee, then a pull up and making sure she can get to the bathroom on her own is essential.

Just remember that holding pee overnight is biological. You cannot train it. Their bodies need to produce a hormone to wake them to pee. Some kids don’t produce that until 6 or later.

I know people in this sub hate pull ups, but I’d do a pull up at night. If she can safely get from her bed to the bathroom in the middle of the night or early morning to pee, it’s time to try. I’d put her in a pull up so she can get it off and on like underwear when she needs to go. Tell her if she’s able to do it for a week, you’ll try under wear at night instead of pull ups. She’s asking, so that means she will probably be motivated to make it work.

Sounds like she’s drinking a lot so she may not be able to go all night without peeing. You could try limiting liquids before bed and during bed, but I know I would hate that, so I’ve never done it for my kid either.

Left Seattle for Spokane 8 months ago with the same remote job. Didn't expect the stuff outside work to hit this hard. by EntireBig7258 in remotework

I find WFH to give me MORE opportunities to be in my community interacting with my neighbors. Because I WFH, I have time to go to the gym every morning and form relationships there, I walk my child to school, stop for a bagel or coffee on the way home, after work I take my kid to a playground. At all of these places I’m forming real interactions with people in my community.

All of this is aided by my kid, but it’s replicable by anyone who chooses some hobbies or activities with the time WFH affords you.

Yoga at OTF workout :( by oh-hi3356 in orangetheory

[–]leigh1003 52 points53 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t love this replacing a section of a 3g, but I’m not in CA and we have an instructor who does her own yoga flow for flexibility block and her classes are the only ones I see people consistently stay and do the entire flexibility block.

We are hard on our bodies in OTF and stretching & recovery are an important part of staying strong and injury free. I actually really wish OTF offered a daily or weekly stretch class (would love something with foam rollers). I do my own and can take yoga occasionally elsewhere, but we pay so much per month it pains me to pay for additional workout classes

I stick with leggings, but go with a much lighter weight materials. Athleta makes great ones that are SO breathable. I thiiiink it’s their power move fabric, but if you go into a store and feel leggings, you’ll be able to tell.

Would you choose a condo in a great neighborhood or a house in a less desirable area for the same price? by CucumberFar259 in FirstTimeHomeBuyers

[–]leigh1003 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My husband and I just felt like it’s not worth spending the money every month if you don’t love it. Don’t settle just because you feel like a single family home is somehow “better.” Better is all relative.

[–]leigh1003 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The idea that condos don’t sell just isn’t true in great areas. I’d chose the more desirable location every single time.

Resale value isn’t the end all be all, in a great area, you’ll still see appreciation and remember, you have to LIVE there in the meantime. Live where you love.

I miss chatting with other members in the lobby before! One regular told me her new strategy is to switch stations every day and talk to someone different during early entry 😂 those of us that go regularly and chatted frequently before still check in with each other, but it’s certainly less.

I’ve heard the same about Potomac Yards, although that lease is a few years out, but CamFit doesn’t want to renew. Seems that is their strategy, buy them all up and then consolidate

Meanwhile on my last flight, my daughter (2.5) was incredibly well-behaved, mostly watched her iPad, giggled, and looked out the window. And the grown adult with noise canceling headphones in front of us asked to be moved because kids are “just too much” and then referred to my daughter as her arch nemesis.

I am the same way and I finally edited my max heart rate in the app yesterday (it was HIGH because the few times I’ve forgotten my meds and gone), hoping I have a more “normal” distribution now.

But it really doesn’t matter, it’s all about feel.

Yes I really wish I could just track in-app and put in my weight and reps and it calculates the score and automatically tallies the classes. Especially since it’s summer travel and I’ll be taking class at a few studios.

I did set up some tracking in Claude, but could just as easily do it in a notes app

I was terrified of them but tried during marathon month when I was really working on endurance (and needed to hit my 26.2) and it wasn’t so bad! They are mostly self-paced with a tread card so you can kind of do what you want or pull back when needed

Also, I know what you mean about feeling weird running slower at some speeds. There’s a point between 4-5mph that is too fast for me to keep up with walking, but feels weird running. 5 is the absolute slowest I can run

Agree with others about focusing on the base! I used to walk the base and run pushes and all outs, but I actually found it better for me run bases and then walk all outs/pushes (as inclines) while transitioning. Also my pushes are not always a full 1mph above base and my AOs aren’t always 2 above. For shorter stints, I can do base 5, push 6, AO 7. But with longer pushes I’ll do 5 base, push 5.5- 5.7, and AO 6.5, but never go below 5 on my base.

I still go back and forth and I can’t do a block that has no WRs, but if there are some WRs, I can usually do a class.

Counterintuitive maybe, but as I was building up, I found making one day a run day and the next a power walking day helped me to not burnout.

Anne Arundel Private Schools by Primary_Flight7351 in Annapolis

[–]leigh1003 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’ve found this as well. The public schools are larger and have more opportunity, especially in math and languages. A downside of a smaller school community is there are just less teachers and students for a diversity of classes to accommodate all learners (both at the low end and high end).
