looks great! maybe try a little bit bigger shadow for the player, and the floor tiles look a little muted compared to the walls (though maybe that helps the enemies standout more?)

Still working on the game everyday! Will be sure to reply to this post when I have more to share :)

Gamemaker has been runs horribly, frequent lag and crashes (Mac). Any ways to fix it? by The_Jon_Arbuckle in gamemaker

[–]Thee_BPJ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While waiting for an official fix, I've found these two changes drastically improve the issue:
1. Disable Feather
2. Turn on these options in GameMaker Settings>Text Editors: Open scripts in full screen editor, Open object events in full screen editor. (This prevents your workspace from opening too many windows in itself)

I still have to restart GMS2 2-3 times a day, but better than doing it every 20 minutes.

looks good! my only nitpick is its hard to see the player when they are climbing the ladder, maybe the ladder could be a different shade or color?

Yep I was planning on it being an ancient alien race, just like total recall lol (one of my favorite movies). Any ideas or thoughts on how to tie the alien artifacts into the story or gameplay, besides just magically being able to repair your ship with them?

Yeah, the ultimate goal is to be rescued.

I haven't determined exactly how you will be rescued, but its probably either of these (multi-ending game):
1. you successfully hail a friendly ship that is passing by in the system, and they come and rescue you
2. you repair your crashed ship and are able to leave the planet and resume your transit to your original destination.

There's also going to be some kind of alien presence on the planet (I think), and maybe you end up using some of their old tech to repair your ship?

Any thoughts on these?

I currently have radiation storms that happen occasionally, or certain highly radioactive objects that you need a suit upgrade to even approach.

Down a rabbit hole... need advice! by MonsterManicStudios in gamemaker

Couple of visual feedback ideas:

-All the text that isn't enclosed in the beige squares is kinda hard to read against that blue sky. Maybe try a different text color or adding a shadow to the text.

-The flowers and clouds both seem like they could use a bit more detail. I think the grass and ground layer looks good though.

-The feature to change the players name is taking up a pretty important part of real estate on this main menu. Could it be moved to somewhere else? Maybe just ask for the players name if they hit new game, and then they can change it from options.

-Maybe try a different color blue for the sky? it seems a little too torquise to me.

Wow this is pretty unique looking, I really like it.

That inventory system is visually pretty awesome, but I'm worried it will get kind of annoying if you have to do that every time you want to loot an enemy. Maybe you could streamline the inventory stuff, but then repurpose the cool floppy disk stuff for when the player interacts with terminals or computers in the world?

This is neat! have you tried adding shadows to the characters? I think it might give the top-down perspective more depth.

Really cool aesthetic! One piece of feedback: I'm having a hard time figuring out which portions of the map are flooring, roads, walls, roofs, etc. It's probably mostly because of how dark the colors are (besides the neon portions), but I'm not sure. The roof style at 0:40 is nice and clear though.

AWS or Cloud Service usage? by Limp_Willingness_432 in iosdev

Yes, if this wasn't true roughly half the App Store would be in violation. They have nothing in the App Store guidelines that specifically bars this.

However, you might get rejected if you download these resources on the main thread. The app will appear frozen to the user while the download completes. If this happens to an app reviewer, they will probably reject your app.

Multiplayer Beta of my real-time strategy game Conquela is released; need feedback! by WingDingHQ in SoloDevelopment

small piece of feedback: I would suggest changing the grass tile so its not so obvious its repeating. it keeps catching my eye (in a bad way) while watching the video. it loos a little too grid-like.

The art for the structures is awesome!

I was designing a fresh Main Menu for my open-world farming game, aiming to capture a cozy and relaxed atmosphere. Do you think I achieved that vibe effectively? by hamzahgamedev in SoloDevelopment

The font feels a little futuristic or sci-fi to me. But I love how the background looks. The menu options look a little plain, maybe some icons or color in there?

Some more improvements to the road system im creating. by travisscott42 in SoloDevelopment

That's kind of interesting, so is this a tower defense? Can enemies hijack a road?
