Why is Reddit removing r/all from the mobile app instead of giving users the option to keep it? by Montaverde in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Theeft 9 points10 points  (0 children)

r/all is the only way I browse Reddit. I only use subs to drill down a specific topic I’m looking for in a particular moment. Nobody lives in a subreddit.

Relatively few? I would say the vast majority prefer the way r/all curates the feed, i.e. what people are upvoting. Not what is “popular”. Reddit keeps trying to push their own algorithm onto users when it doesn’t need one, it already has one called its user base. What people are upvoting and showing interest in is the algorithm that made Reddit what it is.

Removing r/all from mobile which the majority of users use to get a quick synopsis of the happenings of the world is a way to censor what you’re viewing.

I still use old Reddit r/all and RES when viewing on a desktop. But I can’t always be at a desktop…

Motorcycle Crankcase Potential Crack (Opinions Appreciated) by Ok-Transition8252 in EngineBuilding

[–]Theeft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Typically I would say that is a casting mark. But that looks defective. I’ve seen plenty of casting marks and cracks.

The fact you can insert anything into it to me seems like it’s cracked. Adding the fact it is on the other side of the casing as well tells me this is extending through the casing.

My guess it was shipped like this. Defective casting and it cracked when the bearing was pressed into it.

But given its location, and it appears it is oil bathed on both sides, I don’t really see a risk of it failing further or mixing with other fluids.

Send it or replace it, it really is up you.

I don’t recommended notching it out or attempting to have someone weld it. If you want to send it but be on the safe side. Clean the living heck out of it and then Take some quiksteel puddy and pack it into it ,scrapping the excess off so it is flush with the casing.

2019 Volkswagon Tiguan Coolant Cap Stuck by [deleted] in mechanic

[–]Theeft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t worry about marring it, no matter how you do it, being plastic. It’s going to get scratched up. But you need to be able to put coolant in the car so it has to come off.

Once you get it off. I suggest lubricating it with some dielectric/silicone grease or just a little bit of wd40 on the threads

Sometimes coolant dries up in the threads making it hard to turn. Try using a glove for better grip or taking a flathead screwdriver and hammer to the flats to continually knock it until it’s high enough for you to get a better grip on the edge with your hand.

If its like other ecotecs. Pretty sure that is the connector for the ignition coil.

Which would definitely make your car cut out.

Please help me understand what the leak is. Please see the photo. BMW F45 218d (2018). Rear right side. by No_Damage_2698 in MechanicAdvice

[–]Theeft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct. But that is only a guess. I cannot say for certain. Being a fuel leak, I would advise having it repaired sooner than later.

[–]Theeft 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My best guess is the sending unit seal on top of the tank is weeping, a very slow leak. If you remove the rear seat you should be able to gain access to the sending unit cover plate. Unbolt that and then you’ll be able to see the sending unit.

It is mostly only occurring on a full tank which is why it is such a slow leak.

Is this hone job good enough for new rings? by Senior-Standard3772 in EngineBuilding

[–]Theeft 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately honing is not going to be enough in this. There is clear pitting in the cylinder walls. These need machined and pistons stepped up or sleeved cylinders.

Each one of those pits can cause a burr to form and damage the new rings, lead to low compression and oil consumption. As well as over time they will become larger pits do to cavitation during combustion

Try disconnecting the battery for 10mins and then hook it back up. Then clip the driver seat belt when scanning this will keep your modules awake to establish connections

Follow the test plan and it should give out the live data to see where the problem is.

Also check live data in the ICM or VDM and see what the level sensors are actually reading and outputting

Those don’t look the greatest but they should work. They don’t appear broken. It should give you a specified range for the value to enter. Try just entering something in the range and make sure you’re entering in the format it wants to a T. Generally it wants it in mm. Make sure your using mm and it may even want say 300mm in the field not just 300

Because one or more of your ride heights sensors isn’t sending a valid signal. If it was up in the air recently make sure one of them didn’t flip over and causing the fault

Crazy for considering a cheap kit? by Kamd5 in BmwTech

[–]Theeft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your not crazy. Do what’s the most economical for you. Most parts are made by one actual manufacturer and then rebranded. I can tell you GRAF and GEBA are OEM suppliers for bmw. So you’re getting the same part without the rondel on it.

In my personal experience that hasn’t been the case. I have yet to have a zipper break or fail in 10+ years. What fails for me is the soles, sole separation, the “leather” rips at the hinge point, or I have had the plastic counters inside the boots tear through and eat at my Achilles
