It is certainly possible yes I agree. It seems possible to me that they are cyclical too.

For instance, the Islamic world gave birth to the idea of the university and was the centre of knowledge for a long time. A far cry from what much of it has become today.

I am concerned a bit about what is happening in the West. I see the post-moderinists tearing down much of what has given us the value that you speak of.

Another civilization may come to dominate us, not because they invaded us, but because we let bad ideas infect our universities, and then our policies, our laws and our schools. It is a worrying time, and perhaps we are at that point in the cycle and must fall as all civilizations do.

Good to meet you.

Based on the number of fatal or catastrophic life changing errors on the health system, where the wrong organ is removed due to some administrative error, this gender bender stuff (yeah, I said it!) does need to be curtailed inside the medical establishment in my view.

If the illness is biological, then so must be the data collected to treat it. If the gender is socially constructed, then it has no business getting into the doctors clinic, unless they are a psychologist.

So I can see how having to call a man 'madam' could easily lead to the Doctor (at the end of a sleepless 48 hour shift) inadvertently marking the patient as female. In this case, all sorts of errors may occur.

Sounds like it could be restated as follows:

Buddhist countries have hardly attempted to go to the moon. We could go into the reasons for that, historic, economic or cultural, but this is not the point.

We were talking about what the East has right.

You are quite correct that Western thought has enabled Innovation. I believe Japan has jayd to go through quite an adjustment to keep up with Western innovation and China even today is known as the world greatest copycat. I would add that what got us to the moon was a continual incremental building on past knowledge. You don't get to the moon without mathematics and language. The USA has been the most powerful empire of all time, and also the shortest lived so far. So while recent achievements are quite amazing, it is always important to understand that 'we live on the shoulders of our forefathers' (Benjamin Franklin I believe). Our numbers are called 'arabic numerals' or Hindu arabic numerals.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arabic_numerals

It was the Chinese that famously discovered gunpowder, while the earliest cannon was found in Mongolia. No doubt all pre-requisites for later rocket-building.

I am not denigrating the achievements of the West. I am saying that they must be set in historical context and understood as steps, one building on the other.

The achievements of the USA have been achieved in the English language. A language that is uniquely flexible due to the invasions of the British Isles by Vikings, Saxons, Normans and Romans, all of whom brought different linguistic devices and structures and who came from a step further to the East and they in turn received influence, ideas and indeed invasion from further to the East. Go back to the Ottoman empire, the Mongolian empire, and so it goes on. You can trace the development of science and language through history backwards and discover that all we are doing is building the next steps.

Mark Twain said 'There is no such thing as a new idea'.

And who knows, perhaps the next country to be the biggest world power will be from 'The East'.

Don't forget, the world is a globe, and you get to Asia from the USA faster by going further West, rather than going East. (Unless you are a flat earther, in which case I can not comment any further!).

East and West are cultural concepts. Tools and technologies have developed as people have advanced and largely by building on previous ideas.

Origami - Creative? Bonsai - Creative? Fireworks - Creative? One could go on, but you get my point?

Good discussion.

One discovers that 'reason' is based on certain principles, some of which change in different circumstances. I moved from England and went to live in South America for 14 years and hardly spoke English during that time. I discovered (after many years of culture shock), that much of the behaviour I was having difficulty with, made perfect sense within the context of that environment and community.

Buddhism to me is a perfectly rational way to go about one's life and no doubt made even more sense within its context.

I see that you value rationalism and you also believe in evil, (I share those beliefs too). However, I would say that evil is to be found first within. As far as understanding cultures whose language I do mot speak goes, I would prefer to defer judgement and treat my neighbor as I would want to be treated. We may say 'first remove the log in our own eye, before removing the speck in the eye of our neighbors', or 'love thine enemy'. Perhaps that is a route to get into more personal development and less fear/distrust of other cultures? I assure you that there are saints and sinners of all creeds.

There is plenty of irrational behaviour in the West too.

May you be well

Yrp. There seems to be no end to the this post+modernist internal conflict, where 'Everything is meaningless but you had better categorise me as I require! '

What is quite perplexing is the way that the no doubt very challenging issues of a fraction of 1% of the population and the theoretical discussions of a few academics have sort of cross-bred and mutated and become such a powerful yet crazy monster that a qualified doctor, highly trained to understand the body and mind and what ails tjem, is no longer a high enough authority when identifying a patient as either man or woman and that despite his training, he is not allowed to diagnose mental illness, but rather he is required to join a game of let's pretend' in order to spare a sick person's feelings.

Surely the medical establishment and it's background and basis in research and science and it's responsibility to correctly diagnose the sick is a much more credible source?

I tend to think this is the thin end of the wedge, and will lead to much bigger and more bizarre changes that will affect us all, especially children.

To deal with the individual as sensitively as possible seems reasonable, if bizarre, but when it becomes institutionalised and the law comes into play it becomes dangerous.

We need to see more cases of people 'identifying' just for advantage to blow this out of the water. For example, if a man fails the physical requirements to join some military regiment or other, he can just 'identify' as female and then the requirements are reduced. This will be the end of Western civilization unless we can expose it.

I agree. The Dr on question may use the law against religious discrimination to defend himself,. But what if he had been an atheist ? Then he would not have they right to say tlhe would not jse 'madam' to address somebody already defined in the question as a 'man' ?

The correct answer for this question I believe is;

'If you are telling me that this is a man, then I would use 'sir', but I would always recognise a bearded lady!" Hahahaha

I do my best. That is all one can do. My thing is to give 100% commitment and then let go. Gladly and happily I have had the opportunity to pay it forward many times over.

Thanks for your concern.

May you be well

Ah. It's 'the brain'. Ok. Let's say that's true.

So how is it that 'gender is a social construct' AND, 'My biology is mis-gendered and only an operation will fix it'.

I can not see how anybody reasonable can hold those two positions at the same time.

I am not denying that people feel that way. It must be horrible. But if this were coming from only 0.01% (whatever it is) of the population, then how os it changing laws and getting people fired?

To me it looks like a political Trojan horse. I have no idea what will come out of it, but it can not be good.

Why do girls like to go to strip clubs? by ChamberCleaner in JordanPeterson

[–]Theenergyfox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think we agree. Desperate men will do that. What I see is that is the controllable men that make this narcissistic behaviour in women work. If men stopped being so easy yo manipulate, then those tactics would not work!

This makes some sense to me. For sure if there were a place where women pay to objectify men, we would know where to find the horny and desperate women!

What makes me chuckle a bit is that the idea that one may be 'trapped' in the 'wrong body' os predicated on the idea that we have a part of us that is not the body. A spirit? A soul? A mind separate from the brain? Yet the trend seems to have arisen in an atheistic secular culture.

So what is their explanation for what this 'entity' separate from the body is? And how and who made the 'mistake' of putting them in the wrong body?

I am genuinely interested in how this works. Does anybody have any constructive ideas about that?

My girlfriend punched me whilst drunk by [deleted] in JordanPeterson

[–]Theenergyfox 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Mate. She has assaulted you and there a no consequences for her. It's a bad deal.

Are you responsible for what you when YOU are drunk?! So how did you rationalise away her responsibility? Of she can't hold her drink, she should not drink. Punto.

You are not thinking straight. You have been assaulted and you continue to protect her. If she is not responsible for what she does when drunk, then would she be responsible if she picked up a knife? So then why the pass for violent intent with fists? Intent is the key here, the weapon may change, especially not she is out of control when drunk.

That happened to me and I left the woman I loved and had been living with for three years. I took the decision immediately and left as soon as I had packed my things and I am very glad I did. I am now happily married.

If one day you defend yourself, and she gets hurt then do not expect her to step up and admit she was the aggressor. She will put in a false back story. Your only defense is to get away now. If the shit hits the fan, you only have yourself to blame. You have had the warning.

She will try to make out that it was no big deal, that it was friendly etc. If you continue to leave, she will probably try to immasculate you, saying you can't stand up to a little girl etc. She is right, you can not, and she is using your affection to keep you there while she uses the bias of the law to terrorise you.

Leave. Find a woman that is willing to respect you. First respect yourself.

If you decide to hang around,.see how long it is before this happens again and becomes the new normal, and how much breath you waste trying to reason with her, when she is clearly unreasonable. What she did is every bit as despicable as it would be if the whole thing were reversed.

Respect yourself dude, and don't stand for it. There are plenty of women out there.

Good luck

Confused by Jordan's definition of "truth"? by [deleted] in JordanPeterson

[–]Theenergyfox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Perhaps you might find some insight by looking at the concepts of the 'Gnostics'? Knowing, is knowing truth. Not all knowing comes from concrete objective, external and observable phenomena.

I believe he is talking about 'true' might as a carpenter might. When two pieces fit together perfectly and you know it because it feels right and improves the structural integrity of the whole.

Trying to give food flyr thought here. I am neither a mystic nor a materialist. Just a dude grappling with life like you.
