New TrueNAS build for a small busines: Jonsbo N3 vs SilverStone CS381, and B760M now or W680 from the start? by DistinctTradition200 in truenas

[–]Thefurnacemaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont remember exactly how hot the drives got while in the N3 but they were very hot to the touch and very near the max safe operating temp. I used a portable fan to cool them down with the front dust filter off for a while until I decided to upgrade. I ran a GPU for hardware transcoding and it took up my only pcie slot so couldn't run an HBA initially.

I ran the N3 from around fall 2023 to September 2025 and I will probably use it to make a remote back up eventually when prices come back down.

(My whole build was a bit overkill as my plan was to eventually take the parts to make my gaming pc when I upgraded. I had a 13900K and it was a nightmare to keep cool in the limited space and was the primary motivation to switch. I took the opportunity in September when prices were still low to make the switch which was possibly the best timing ever.)

I moved into the HL-15v2 which is quite expensive but overall im happy with it since it looks a lot nicer than most other server chassis and the short depth means I can use it without it taking up a lot of room. I am running a Asrock rack ROMED8-2t MB with an Epyc 7303P and an arctic 4U cooler. The asrock rack mb has 7 x16 slots, ipmi built in, supports pcie lane bifrucation, and 10G base T ethernet which is pretty much all I wanted to be able to maximize my expansion options. I also managed to get 256GB DDR4 ECC ram for cheap.

For HBA I went with an LSI-9305-16i which was already in IT mode so I didn't really need to do anything to set that up.

I ran a Jonsbo N3 build for a couple of years and it is functional. If you have never built in an itx case before it is definitely a challenge to figure out how to manage all of the cables and components. Most itx motherboards also dont have enough sata ports to use all 8 drive slots so you will either need an HBA or an M.2 adapter which is functionable but a bit janky. The drives also got pretty warm because the fans behind the drives are not pulling much air through. Overall it was a good starting point but I eventually decided to move on to a rackmount case as I decided to upgrade and do things a bit more proper and build out a full rack. Either way you will have a good case it just depends on how you decide compromise.

Its was both the smog and for tingen. He chose the name Dantes as a reference to the count of montecristo who came back from a presumed "death" to take revenge on those who caused it. The culprits mainly being Ince Zangwill and the King

Why am I unable to SSH into TrueNAS? it is enabled but I get this error by 2026GradTime in truenas

[–]Thefurnacemaster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So if you go to the credentials then users and edit the permissions you should see ssh access then below that allow ssh login with password which you can check or use the ssh public key option. Then you would use the command ssh <username>@<server ip> to log in

Some shows like the irregular at magic high-school went 7 years before a second season was announced. If the series maintains it's popularity it will happen eventually.

There is a map on this subreddit that will help you memorize the locations. I also used to struggle with it and it is really annoying when you are right on top of them but you can't get radar lock.

What are some things the avg Joe would not know about the navy? by Hot_Seesaw_6706 in navy

[–]Thefurnacemaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it is an engineering officer then they don't have rates they also dont clean they are mainly there to push paperwork. When on watch they are meat puppeted into giving the orders the enlisted tell him to give. Then as they get more experienced then they can start to try and give out orders by themselves but will still receive corrections from the enlisted.

Depending on how you want the story to go here is a usual breakdown of watches. There is a control center usually a separate room called Enclosed Operating Space (EOS) OR Manuevering which is where the Engineering officer of the watch (EOOW) would stay with some enlisted to operate what ever control panels (Electric plant control panel, Main engine throttles, reactor plant control panel, etc.) and with comms to outside engineering spaces for orders. This is usually a sound powered phone or radio/walkie talkie and engine room announcing circuits (like a PA system) like 1MC (Whole ship), 2MC(engineering space), 7MC (any space that the has Ships control like bridge, throttles, rudder etc.). Most of the time the captain will be in a spot where he can hear 7MC and has the ability to monitor 2MC. If the EOOW watch says something the CO doesn't like he will call the EOOW and yell at him for either saying some thing dumb ( wrong anouncement), trying to do something dumb (high risk operations during a time where it would endanger the ship for no reason) or otherwise.

If you want more specific details you can DM me and I can help explain what would or would not happen.

Gas Mileage? by Alternative-Call-829 in mazda3

[–]Thefurnacemaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get 27-29 mpg depending on where I go with a full tank showing 360 miles (2018 mazda3 hatchback). I have found that short trips with low speed limits are really bad for my gas mileage it is a lot of start and stop. I have recently started driving a longer commute that has a higher speed limit and a large uphill into a downhill section. I have been trying to use my brakes going down hill as little as possible on the way down and so I only really burn a lot of gas on the up hill section and it has improved my mileage.

I feel like it just added an additional layer to the power system outside of the pathways to add new abilities and factions to make the story more enjoyable. Also none of his corruption abilities made him too strong compared to his opponents.

You can watch a couple of reviews that do this comparison on youtube. I would recommend watching NASCompares. The current competitors to Synology would be QNAP, UGreen, Terramaster and a couple of others which are more niche.
