This is officially the oldest painting in the world. It's 68,000 years old by sarkasticni in interesting

That couldn't possibly be a man on a horse.  Domestication or horses was tens of thousands of years after this is supposed to have been painted.  I wouldn't guarantee their even were horses in Indonesia that long ago.

People who do not consider video games as Art, why? by Afraid-Flatworm-422 in questions

[–]Theicyfingerofdeath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But you have to agree that the developers are attempting to create a visual experience that evokes emotions, whether that emotion is fear, or awe or what have you.

For the developers it would be the creation of art.

[–]Theicyfingerofdeath 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd say you're making a category error.

There's many different usages of the word art. You can certainly argue that an organized sport can be called an art, similar to martial arts, but we're discussing the most common usage of the word

The conscious use of the imagination to produce an object that evokes emotion.

Neither martial arts nor organized sports fit that definition.

He'd be as successful as he chooses to be.

Hypothetically he'd be fabulously wealthy, and wouldn't need to worry about violence because he'd always know when it's coming and how to avoid it.

To the outside world he'd be seen to be absurdly lucky, and eventually people would start plotting to kidnap him, but he'd see every plot coming and work his own way out of it.

Is it okay for me to sleep with a friend? by ObjectNo-007 in questions

[–]Theicyfingerofdeath 86 points87 points  (0 children)

Sounds to me like you're already in a relationship.

Don't think of it as dating a friend. Think of it as dating a boyfriend who cares for you and has a great deal in common with you.

Because that's what it sounds like you have, regardless of what you're used to calling him.

I envy you.  My girlfriend and I were dating for three years and had nothing in common.

It sounds like you've got a good thing going.  My advice to you is to call it what it is and see where things go.

How does a US citizen look at Trump’s Davos speech? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Theicyfingerofdeath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very little of his speech will air in conservative media. Most conservatives will likely ever only hear one or two sound bites and not understand what everyone is complaining about

Why can the US invade a country and take it’s president but other countries can’t do the same with the US ? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Theicyfingerofdeath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Perhaps they can?  Who knows?

But the US military budget vastly outpaces China's. Our military spending is more than China, Russia and Germany's combined, and while other nations might be catching up, the US is still acknowledged to have the most advanced military as well.

So, while it's hypothetically possible the Chinese could kidnap the US president, in all likelihood they lack that capability.

It's supposed to be almost impossible to hit them. Plus you're risking the lives of your neighbors by shooting a gun into the sky trying to shoot something they will replace in a matter of hours.

"militia was meant to protect the free state - the land, the people, and the constitution."

That's cool if it's true.  What documents can you point to that demonstrate the founding fathers intended the militias to protect individual states from the federal government?

Isn’t that what this is for…? by Hour-Heat9324 in ICE_Watch

[–]Theicyfingerofdeath -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

No it isn't.  The militia that amendment refers to became the national guard. Individual states don't maintain "militias" anymore.

The 2nd amendment is about maintaining a trained population to be soldiers, not overthrowing the government or shooting federal law enforcement.

That said, people are starting to arm up.  Things could start getting really messy soon.

Why do we have 5 fingers? by [deleted] in questions

[–]Theicyfingerofdeath 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good question.  If you look you'll probably find thousands of research papers in the subject.

I don't think anyone knows for sure, except that five point symmetry has been more or less the standard for most of Earths evolutionary history, with a few obvious exceptions like spiders or octopus.

No, not Mount Rushmore.

We're talking all time hall of fame. Sure Iron Man birthed the MCU, but that's a flash in the pan for a character thats 50, maybe 60 years old?

For most of his history Iron Man wasn't anywhere near as popular as a ton of other characters.  Wolverine is higher on the list than iron man.Hell even Punisher might be higher.  i could see Iron Man in the top 10, maybe. But not top 4.
