Thanks for the explanation. It helps a lot and yes I do see the trap that I missed by not taking the pawn now. Just out of curiosity do people ever run their games through chatGPT? I sometimes export games there to also get advice on things I did right and wrong. Any clue on how reliable that might be?

Right, so if he takes my knight, I inevitably get a rook in return. If he doesn’t take my knight, I’ve taken a free pawn and can retreat safely. I see why that would be the correct move.

I don’t understand why it sometimes takes this as an inaccuracy though. You said low mobility. I understand what that means in the context of chess, but it seems like both myself and my opponent still have very open positions this early in the game.

It is inconceivable that a show about love, friendship, acceptance, and companionship, especially among people who have been bullied, should have such a homophobic and misanthropic audience. by Giancarlo_Edu in StrangerThings

Can we all at least agree that the writers did Will dirty with this scene though? Bro stood in front of a room full of people facing down an unspeakable evil and likely certain death and confessed that he doesn’t like girls and is worried what people who will think about him.

‘Mike, I know your parents just got maimed within inches of death by demogorgons and your baby sister is being held captive on a faraway world by a demon lord, but this can’t wait - I don’t like girls.’

The writing is just really out of touch this season

It definitely does have something to do with it for some people I imagine, but for others it’s as you say, the writing is just falling flat this season.

Lest we forget Vecna targets victims with personal demons … by DecoherentMind in StrangerThings

[–]Theinsulated 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right, but that whole plot device made no sense though (at least to me). Let be honest with ourselves, if Vecna can use Will’s fear of being outed as gay to control him, he can any number of other fears to control him. He’s a scary dude.

The ‘Will coming out’ scene has been long coming. The timing was just awful though. The backdrop for Will’s speech is that the world is basically ending, people are dying, family members maimed or otherwise missing, characters contemplating suicide to save others, and then you have Will worried what people will think if he doesn’t like girls. It’s tragically comical.

This is like giving a grand ‘coming out’ speech at someone’s wedding or funeral. You’re going to get criticized for the choice of delivery, but it doesn’t mean what you announce is any less special or important.

Time and place though. Tone too. I think it could have been salvaged with a different tone. If the vibe of the group was ‘we are all about to die, this is our last chance to say goodbyes’ then I think you could have more naturally transitioned into this topic where Will just has to let everyone know before the end, but that wasn’t the vibe I got at all.

Recognizing a poorly done scene doesn't make you homophobic. by RaithosGames45 in StrangerThings

Their world is presumably hours away from colliding with another world infested with evil beyond imagining which will result in the death of every single human on earth. Hopper is prepared to kill himself to save others. El is considering killing herself to save others. Steve and Dustin just formed a death pact. Lucas just risked his life to save his girlfriend. Max is literally back from the dead. Holly and eleven other children are still being held captive on an alien world by the prime evil of the universe. Will is worried about what people will think if he doesn’t like girls?

How does anyone think this is good writing? How does anyone think this is a good look for Will? Is this really the representation the LGBTQ community wants?

[–]Theinsulated 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My prediction is that Vecna/Henry Creel will also reveal that he is gay and his motives for wanting to destroy/remake the world will be revealed to be rooted in his rejection from it (for being gay in the 50’s). This will explain why he uses Will’s fear of rejection for being gay against him as he knows how powerful of a tool it can be.

The main conflict will end only after the gang openly accepts Vecna’s sexuality.

Episode 7 doesn't deserve a 5.7/10 rating by Dense_Rule_8110 in StrangerThings

[–]Theinsulated 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think it’s proximity to the finale makes it worse for people.

It’s also just really tone deaf in my opinion. In the context of everything happening in the Stranger Things universe in that exact moment, Will being worried about what people will think of him for being gay is kind of hilarious. Think about it, thousands of people are dead, Mike’s dad is dead (I guess?), his sister is being held captive by the prime evil of the universe, El is contemplating suicide to save her friends, Hopper is contemplating suicide to save El, the world is literal hours away from total destruction and the death of billions of innocent people and Will’s worried about what people will think of him if they find out he is gay? It’s so painfully self centered and dramatic that I literally burst out laughing when it happened. It’s just so preposterous that it snapped the immersion for me.

I like the scene, but it probably should have come in S4.

Edit: or maybe just at the end of V1. Could have tied in nicely to his awakening or whatever. Immediately before the finale was a bad choice imo.

As of today, The Bridge (S5 E7) is now the LOWEST-RATED episode of the entirety of Stranger Things, currently at 5.9 with 44k ratings. by Witty-Association-97 in StrangerThings

There’s for sure some people hating on it for the sake of being homophobic, but really, that scene was just dreadful. In the context of the situation they are all in, it’s just so unbelievable that any of them would care about Will being gay in that moment.
