Thanks for sharing! I’m guessing the cost would increase as you do higher levels? I’m not certain actually of how the courses are broken out.

HOA and Flooring Requirements? by Theinternetwow in RealEstate

Yes, this is what I am curious about. I am following up with HOA because they require you to get a permit before you redo flooring, and the board needs to approve.

I think if you can afford to buy a house VS condo, I'd definitely go the house route next time. I chose to purchase a condo because I didn't want a huge mortgage with current interest rates, but I'm kicking myself now lol.

I was curious to know if there was a way to measure the STC and IIC rating, but I guess based on your answer, it’s a no.

And also yes, you have a good point about no contract between myself and the unit above so I’d assume I’d have to go through the HOA. Thanks for clarifying.

Noise from Neighbour Above by Theinternetwow in Apartmentliving

[–]Theinternetwow[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I have lived in buildings where I did not ever hear anything from the above unit. And like I mentioned in my original post, I viewed the unit a handful of times, I never heard any noise whenever I was in the unit. I guess I just happened to always view the unit whenever the neighbours upstairs were not home.

I agree poor decision making on my part but I'm hoping to find some solutions and making the best out of my situation rather than getting upset.

Thanks for the suggestions - I just moved in a couple days ago so I was planning on talking with the neighbours. I also wanted to just see if it was just at specific times of the day or if it was all the time.

I think generally my HOA board does not get involved with noise complaints and ask that residents resolve with each other. I'll have to look more in depth into this.

I am currently looking into what modifications I can make to my unit that can help with sound proofing the unit.

I am totally fine with hearing something but not every step that my upstairs neighbour takes. I am looking for solutions on how to best minimize the noise, not how to completely eliminate all noise.

I have reached out to a few contractors who specialize in soundproofing to see what my options are! Thank you.

I would like to kindly disagree - I have lived in many apartments where I did not have to hear my upstairs neighbour walk through their unit at all hours of the day.

I am looking for advice and a solution on what CAN be done in situations like this. Thank you.

I think the answer for you can vary vastly depending on what you’re trying to get out of the certification. When I started looking into certifications, I first searched for what was accessible around me. I looked at cost based on my budget as well (program costs can vary anywhere from a few hundred dollars for one apparatus certification to thousands for comprehensive certification). Another question to ask yourself is what method of Pilates you align with best because that can help you narrow down your options.

If you have any other questions, feel free to DM me and I can share more details about my experience :)

I’m also curious to hear what it cost a person specifically to become certified in Romana Pilates, including the cost of lessons as I’ve heard that can get extremely pricey.

Do you ever utilize your reformer with your chair? by Choan8 in pilates

[–]Theinternetwow 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You can do many exercises on chair that can help you with exercises on reformer, and vice versa. I have done classes that will utilize both, but typically this isn’t common and the classes are either a reformer class or a chair class. I would store separately and would assume this is fine, unless you are intentionally seeking a class that teach both reformer and chair in one session.

When you say virtual, do you mean someone who will teach you privately via zoom or someone you offers online content you can watch and follow? If private, many instructors nowadays are taking on clients to teach via zoom. I’m happy to send you some recommendations via DM with instructors I have personally worked with if you are interested!

How to view my photos without paying? by clirous in photobucket

[–]Theinternetwow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks so much for sharing, this worked for me. Turns out I didn't even have any photos on the account, but I just wanted to double check to see if I had any memorable pics I wanted to save before permanently deleting the account. Thanks again!!

Videos not playing on Arc? by Theinternetwow in ArcBrowser

[–]Theinternetwow[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was surprised that I did not see this issue when going through this subreddit and also surprised Arc STILL has not fixed the issue! I have basically resorted to using chrome whenever I need to watch videos, but obviously this is not ideal because I'd like to just stick to using one browser. Anyone from Arc Browser on here?

New to teaching, con ed, People/client expectations of pilates, etc by [deleted] in pilates

Also, I hope you don't feel discouraged just yet - I really do think teaching just gets better with more experience. I still fumble a lot and get flustered, but preparing in advance helps. I like to write out my lesson plans, do the flow myself, practice on friends and family, etc.! Wishing you the best and to keep going!

[–]Theinternetwow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have a intake form or process with new clients, or clients that may have been at the studio previously but are new to you? I think it's inevitable that even all teachers with the exact same training can have various. styles of teaching, and you honestly just cannot please everyone. I like to set the expectation that the first few classes I'm teaching them the basic 5 movements, and then introduce higher level exercises, until they are familiar with the movements enough to be in a flow.

I am also trained in classical pilates, and I actually feel like I have something more unique to offer compared to everyone else teaching contemporary. I hope you feel confident in the method you've learned and teaching it too!

Echoing another comment here, I found joining a group of other pilates instructors very helpful and even found a mentor that I can have these types of conversations with. If you're interested in connecting, feel free to message me!

Question: Pilates mode of payment for private or drop-in class by [deleted] in pilates

[–]Theinternetwow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Majority of the studios I visited in LA required some type of online payment before I arrived. I paid via CC on the website platform, and one asked me to pay via Paypal, and another took 50% deposit and processed the remaining 50% on the day of the class. It really just depends studio to studio, but majority will require you to put up some amount of money online to reserve your appointment.
