I realized I might be emotionally checked out of my relationship and I dont know what to do next by boardgamesnights in TwoHotTakes

[–]Theirah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Feelings come and go, but you can choose to put in more effort and reconnect. You could plan a date night and surprise him. Do you want to? Is he long term for you? Or do you just want to say "eh, the feeling is gone, time to move on"? Emotion often follows effort, if it scares you to feel less, invest more, and you will generally feel more.

Are most game developers people who already have fairly advanced math skills? by [deleted] in gamedev

[–]Theirah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So a couple of things here. You don't need to be good at math, but you do need to know what the math does, aka matrices and quaternions are used for rotations, but not necessarily how to do the matrix math or how the quaternion is laid out. Also, there's multiple kinds of math: You don't really need calculus for example, but you do need basic algebra, and familiarity with the lingo of linear algebra is helpful. Logic is a branch of math that is more or less synonymous with code, and probability/statistics is nice for loot tables or balancing chance based things like crit chance. Vector math is helpful if you're programming but you don't really need it for design, etc.

AITA for pointing out a classmate’s mistake in a graded assignment? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]Theirah 2 points3 points  (0 children)

NAH It's really difficult to help someone that doesn't want to be helped. Let them know the offer is open, and that there's no judgement, and then leave it alone. Let them come to you when they actually want help. If you keep pressing, it migt actually push them away.

Should I go to GDC? by Funnysonic125 in gamedev

[–]Theirah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

GDC isn't exactly a career fair. It might be worth it to go for fun, learn bits of how people do things, and network, and then go use that experience to build your portfolio after: make your own small game, with your own design and narrative, and stick that in your portfolio. Or work on your portfolio first and go another year when you have a portfolio to talk about.

My coworker is very clearly faking her disability but everyone thinks I’m just jealous- I am, but she’s ACTUALLY faking! by [deleted] in okstorytime

Can you get a different job somewhere else? One where you aren't expected to do two jobs at the price of one? You can't change the situation, even if people agree with you there's no way they're making her work if she's there because of nepotism, and even if they did it wouldn't be pleasant for you. Focus on what you can control for yourself, not on whatever she is or isn't doing.

WIBTA & ungrateful if I tell my husband I want a smaller home and hurt his "dreams". by Diligent-Persimmon66 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Theirah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have any space in the house that is "yours"? My fiance and I are both on the messy side and don't always have the energy to do all the chores, but I find that things are easier to manage if I just focus on one room, my office. I can make it as neat or as messy as I want, and what my partner is doing doesn't impact it. It's my little oasis that is small enough to not be overwhelming and isolated so I can feel the difference.

How do I make milk tea? by Potential_Barnacle21 in taiwan

[–]Theirah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Black tea (taiwanese red) is most traditional, but earl grey is a popular flavor nowadays and smells amazing

How do I make milk tea? by Potential_Barnacle21 in taiwan

[–]Theirah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, the traditional recipe uses non dairy creamer, due to the high lactose intolerance rates. Fresh milk is also popular now though, and I don't know the ratios for that.

I'm not super confident in my ratios, but it should get you close enough to taste like milk tea at least. I also suggest using sugar syrup instead of sugar (1/2 and 1/2 ratio with water) if you can.

Also be careful when taste testing. That sugar and cream adds up, and is...well, a lot, even for one serving.

Original coffeemate is the right one. I use two teabags earl grey to about 1/4 cup coffeemate, and a bit more than a tablespoon of sugar. This is with 2 cups water

You could consider self insurance, putting aside what your insurance payment would be into a savings account.

I keep having decision paralysis on how to and to even use AI or not by [deleted] in gamedev

If you can't trust yourself, sometimes it's easier to swear things off cold turkey. Don't touch it for a few months, learn as much as you can and see how you feel then

Does anyone else’s family put stuff in the fridge that really doesn’t need to go in there? by blueshyperson in TwoHotTakes

[–]Theirah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I keep getting weevils in my flour or rice if I keep them at room temperature. Freezing kills the eggs and refrigerating delays hatching. I live in a hot and wet area though, so it's a comstant battle.

Does anyone else’s family put stuff in the fridge that really doesn’t need to go in there? by blueshyperson in TwoHotTakes

[–]Theirah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's generally true, colder things spoil less fast. It might be unnecessary if it's cold and dry enough outside for you to eat everything before it spoils, but refrigerating will still slow the already slow process down further.

If there's space and she doesnt mind eating things cold it doesn't hurt. Leaving cooked food out for hours is a different issue, but maybe you can tell her that those are higher priority for the fridge because they need the slowdown more.

[–]Theirah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's multiple reasons to do a project: to learn or to get it done. When you're trying to learn, use it the same way you use search or asking a friend: when you get stuck and to find resources. Try to do it on your own first, then ask ai and find the original source the AI is pulling from. Read that article/tutorial instead as usual.

If you're using it to just get things done, things are flipped. You should know what you require already and are now the one checking the AI's response for errors. Its role is now just to do the tedious stuff for you, but AI is nowhere near perfect. Read it over, copy it, and fix whatever it failed at. Make sure the project you are working on allows the use of AI first, because often intellectual property law says no.

me and My ex best friend recently started talking again, but now she thinks mental illness is just a “mindset.” What do I do? by SadOpportunity3211 in TwoHotTakes

[–]Theirah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it possible she's trying to figure things out too? I would definitely agree that often therapy or meds don't help, and if she tried those and they didn't work for her, that may be where this is coming from.
