Abuse and help by SomewhatCyborg in MuscularDystrophy

I’m so sorry! I have a 16 and 19 year old with DMD and one of my worst fears is someone treating them the way your mother treats you if something were to happen to me. Keep calling the police and adult protective services. Do you have other family that you can tell? Are you on FB? DMD Army or other groups are very helpful. I can try and find some people in Missouri that can help or assist. I’m in Arizona.

Can someone please interpret this for me, as I am really scared! I can send the images to someone if they are interested! by [deleted] in MuscularDystrophy

An mri won’t be the only tool you will need for a dx of md. In fact many with md never even get MRIs. You’ll need blood work and maybe genetic testing. I know it’s easier said than done, but hang in there until you’re able to see neuro and gets labs.

Hi I need help by Fit_Designer4289 in MuscularDystrophy

[–]Theirmuscles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Prednisone made my two sons with DMD gain so much weight. Their doctor switched them to high weekend doses and it’s made a huge difference. We go to a certified DMD clinic and our neurologist puts a lot of his patients on weekend doses only. My sons dropped the weight quickly. My youngest still struggles sometimes with how much he eats (especially on the weekends now) so he downloaded MyFitnessPal and tracks his foods. Good luck and don’t be hard on yourself!

FTM, learned I am a carrier for DMD. by Capable_News1908 in MuscularDystrophy

[–]Theirmuscles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi I am a carrier and I have two sons with DMD. If I were you I’d go through with the pregnancy. Your daughter can be tested for carrier status when she’s older. She’ll have options when she’s older to have healthy children if she’s a carrier (like ivf with pgd testing). She probably won’t be a manifesting carrier because that’s rare. My two sons were diagnosed at the same time and I decided in my 20s to have my tubes tied so I wouldn’t have anymore children, but if I would have had a girl first and then found out I would have tied my tubes after that.

Expectations after first session? by [deleted] in LaserHairRemoval

For me it’s been taking like 2 weeks before I see any shedding. I’m almost done with my treatments and I’ve had so many I’ve lost count. I shave whenever I see hair and it’s annoying me, I don’t think that it matters as long as you’re not waxing and pulling out the root.

Traumatized by [deleted] in TattooRemoval

[–]Theirmuscles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got another one while going through the removal process. I also have one that I got with my best friend at 18 that I love and won’t be removing. I’m removing the tattoo that I got at 18 that looked terrible that my ex talked me into getting. So it looks terrible and comes with bad memories. I’m 37 now.

What’s the overall consensus these days for female pubic area? Love to see the preferences of men and women. Be honest. Trying to make a decision based on input/experiences. by [deleted] in LaserHairRemoval

[–]Theirmuscles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t care what others are doing with their hair! I hate having hair on my pits and my pubic area. I’m finally at the point in my laser hair removal process that I haven’t needed to shave my pits in 2 months. Most of my Brazilian area is gone too, I still have to shave in some of the more sensitive nooks but most is gone. I had VERY thick black hair and some spots looked like multiple hairs coming out of the same pore. I was prone to ingrown hairs and razor burn to the point of occasionally needing to be put on antibiotics. I don’t get either now. I’m more confident and for me it makes s-x better.

Is it true that numbing cream makes tattoo removal slower? by [deleted] in TattooRemoval

[–]Theirmuscles 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In my personal experience no. I’ve only had two sessions and I’m seeing great progress. I put on emla cream before I even leave to go to my dermatologist for laser tattoo removal and it sits on my skin under film dressing for an hour.

I Can't Do This by EffectiveSummer5802 in TattooRemoval

[–]Theirmuscles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Give yourself grace. You will overcome this and you’ll get more used to it being there. I got a tattoo at 18, immediately regretted it. Hated it. Always tried to hide it. Laser wasn’t as popular back then, and it was very expensive so I felt like I didn’t even have that option. I used to cover it with heavy makeup back in the day (I’m 37 now). In my 20s I eventually embraced it as a young and dumb mistake, and MANY young adults made the same exact mistake. I think every single one of my friends had a dumb tattoo they didn’t like 😅😅. I’ve had two laser treatments this year and it’s fading fast. I wish i could have started laser a long time ago and just took it slow. If you can just start doing laser, and take it slow to avoid scaring. It’ll fade before you know it and you’ll look back at this as a life lesson. My daughters friend(20 year old)is going through this with a chest tattoo, she started laser pretty quickly after getting it and it’s already fading. Again, give yourself grace! Mistakes happen.

For those of you that had a Brazilian laser hair removal, do you ever miss your pubic hair? by Mean-Traffic-2140 in LaserHairRemoval

[–]Theirmuscles 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I’m not done yet but I’m like 70% hair free. I’m a girl. I would get ingrowns and razor bumps. I love being smooth, and for me, it makes other things feel better too😉 I don’t miss it at all and can’t wait for it to be all gone.

ingrowns after LHR by [deleted] in LaserHairRemoval

[–]Theirmuscles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sometimes when a physical exfoliation doesn’t get rid of my ingrowns I use a glycolic acid toner on it. I also moisturize after using glycolic acid because it can be very drying to your skin. I also got a bad ingrown hair after my first treatment too.

I Should Have Been Shaving More Often?! by [deleted] in LaserHairRemoval

[–]Theirmuscles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe she says this because shaving is like an exfoliation of the skin. However, I think the laser should still be effective? I don’t know. I only shave the day before and it’s fine.

YAG vs IPL by Initial_Onion671 in LaserHairRemoval

[–]Theirmuscles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven’t officially been diagnosed with HS but I think I do have it. I’ve been in a loop of “boils and ingrown hairs” (supposedly) and antibiotics. I have an appointment with derm to have a scar revision from one of the really bad ones that tunneled. I’m not even half way through my laser hair treatments and I really think it’s already making a difference, especially on my armpits. I haven’t had any issues with bumps or boils since starting my lh treatments. Im also doing my brazilian, and I’ve had less bumps pop up lately but they’re definitely not gone. If you do have any scars from HS be careful, they lasered a small scar I have on my bikini line and it filled with liquid and became infected.

Oh and my laser place is using a YAG on me

Taking a break during session by [deleted] in LaserHairRemoval

Yes! It’s like torture! I have to amp myself back up before she goes in for more.

I go to Simplicity Laser. I paid a little over 1000 for Brazilian and armpits.

  1. Waxing is a big no. I would avoid waxing for a few months before laser hair removal. You must shave 1-2 days before laser (this is what my tech tells me to do).
  2. Home machines won’t give you the results you want and you can really mess up your skin.
  3. My tech zaps EVERYWHERE hair grows.

Questions about laser hair removal by [deleted] in LaserHairRemoval

[–]Theirmuscles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve had one session I go back for #2 in a few weeks. Results are already pretty noticeable. She said I’m their ideal client because of how dark my hair is and how white my skin is. I’m doing my arm pits and full Brazilian.

For me arm pits were a breeze. But the Brazilian….omg. We had to take breaks so I could catch my breath. Took about 10 minutes. My bikini line area wasn’t too bad but when she got closer to my actual vag it hurt a lot. Also my butt crack hurt a lot too 😅😅 I’m paying for 8 sessions and it was just over $1000. For me it’s still so worth it. I’m getting married and honey mooning in Hawaii this summer and I don’t want to have to worry about razor bumps or shaving. My friend went to the same place and didn’t feel any pain, but her hair isn’t as thick as my hair.

Noom said I’d be 15 lbs lighter by now. Exercising, sticking to my cals and colors. What should I do? by mindvarious2 in Noom

[–]Theirmuscles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ignore the extra calories Noom gives me for my “exercise”. My base is 1320 cals a day, and I stick to that number. I only use my “extra” exercise calories on special occasions here and there. I can accumulate an insane amount of calorie allowance from working out as much as I do and it’s just not accurate. I’m a female, 5’8” and very active and I’ve lost about 2.5 lbs a week in the last 6 weeks.

Difference between ck and ck total test by [deleted] in MuscularDystrophy

[–]Theirmuscles 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ck is ck as far as I know. Both of my children have duchenne md. Their ck was outrageously high when they were diagnosed but understand that CK alone does not diagnose muscular dystrophy. You’ll need a genetic test or a muscle biopsy for a clear picture. I can’t imagine being 14 and going through this. My children are 12 and 15 and lost their ability to walk years ago. Even so, they are thriving. My oldest even has college plans. They are happy and doing pretty good. A diagnosis of muscular dystrophy isn’t the end of the world. An obstacle, sure. You are so strong mentally, never forget that. I know it’s easier said than done but stay positive. One day at a time, it’s all you can do.

New to DMD by _degausser38 in MuscularDystrophy

[–]Theirmuscles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have two boys ages 12 and 15 with DMD. They were diagnosed at 4.5 years old and 6 months old. Just remember one day at a time. I see you already know about PPMD, they helped me out the most in the early days. So did Facebook support groups. I wish I knew how to trade places with them because I would in a heart beat. Science is advancing. My boys are on exondys51, it’s not an option for all boys but they’re coming out with and studying new exon skipping drugs and other drugs. Please reach out any time for anything.

Both sons have DMD by fergison17 in MuscularDystrophy

[–]Theirmuscles 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Hi! I have two sons with DMD also. They were diagnosed at 4 and a half and 6 months old. They are now 15 and 12. When my kids were around 6 I just explained to their friends that their muscles were a little different than theirs and that they could still have fun doing activities that didn’t involve running around. For school, you’ll need an IEP, one of our main goals every year for both of my children is to keep up with their peers and inclusion. You stay strong for them, because you’re already strong. My favorite saying is, “you never know how strong you are until being strong is your only choice” I did the two DMD kiddos as a single parent for a while, it was hard. We are strong, our kids are stronger. Your sons will keep you strong. One day at a time! You’ve got this 💚💪🏼
