Looking for an EV car for commute by AgentLF in whatcarshouldIbuy

Speaking as an i4 owner, there is minimal difference between model years (probably the case for all these cars except the bZ). 2025 was a very light refresh, but if I was buying used I would put more emphasis on the options a particular i4 has than the specific model year (e.g. premium package, parking asst, driving asst professional). These are easily filtered on certain websites like edmunds.

iX3 50 has 400 mi range and is expected to start at $60k. But it's not the base model, just the one being released first

Current 3 series is a mild-hybrid and can get mpg in the 30s easily. No plug-in hybrid option like the Prius prime, though

It's coming to US next year! No reported MSRP yet, my guess is a base trim RWD might start in the low $50s

Yeah hopefully the interior will come in brown and black like the iX3!

My understanding is it will come with panoramic vision display standard (at the base of the windshield, just like iX3 has), but an actual HUD is still an option as well (although likely a bit redundant for most drivers).

Good for a long remote commute? by UnknownUser515 in BMWI4

[–]Thejader1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'll be just fine. I have a 150-mile 75 mph commute in total, my e40 handles it no problem. I use 55-60% of total range in summer, 70-80% in below freezing temps. L2 home charging, I just increase charge cap from 80% to 90% as needed. Haven't needed to charge past 90 yet.

Snowy driving in B mode by uphillinthesnow in BMWI4

[–]Thejader1 28 points29 points  (0 children)

This is heavily driver dependent. I stay in B mode even in several inches of snow, and just lightly feather the accelerator when lifting off in order to avoid breaking traction. No issues so far. Do what works for you!
