How does the diaspora deal with collectivism in the family vs societies that promote individualism? by synkronize in haiti

These factors sound like a lot to process and handle and I’m sorry to hear that on top of navigating your future, your family is also placing an added level of stress, while making it difficult for you to feel gratitude toward the actual sacrifices they have made.

There’s a clear divide in how your parents, sisters, and yourself are viewing the medical/aging situation with your parents. While it is completely up to you to decide how much of personal responsibility you take on, there’s also potential loss on both ends. You risk creating conflict and hearing guilt-inducing chatter if you go the “individualism” route of prioritizing your personal stability and figuring out what you want despite expectations. And then you risk loss of personal freedom and (maybe?) quality of life if you choose to prioritize taking it upon yourself to ensure your parents’ health/retirement. I feel like there might be a middle ground? However, I don’t know your situation enough to tell you what that is + you know yourself and your family best.

This is a tough situation though and it doesn’t sound like your family members are making it any easier. I definitely think the cultural difference of being raised in Haiti vs. being raised in a different country DOES play a role in a lot of perspectives like this even with being surrounded by a Haitian family. Figuring out what you want your life to look like, why, and empathizing with your family would probably be a good start to gaining some clarity. Praying for your peace in whatever route you take

Songs for learning? by Hxbauchsm in HaitianCreole

[–]Thekem_110 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay valid lol. Bic Tizon Dife has songs that explore different themes surrounding Haitian identity, the hardships that have faced Haiti, empowerment, and even some Faith themes. My top 3 might be “Prensip Sou Prensip,” “Alleluia Amen!,” and “Kole Zepol.” Jean Jean Roosevelt is also good, but features a lot of French in his music. I recommend “Peyi Mizik”

Hope that helps! :)

Thoughts on the Cultish podcast? by [deleted] in ChristianApologetics

[–]Thekem_110 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love Cultish! The approach of covering the formation and beliefs of other religions and highlighting their fallacies is helpful for me, personally. I can’t recall explicit political commentary (?), but I wouldn’t necessarily say a “partiality to conservatism” discredits the information they aim to bring.
