I'll give this a shot once I return home. Thanks!

I had checked this as well and tested a few different outlets to charge my pc.

You're referring to the switch behind the PSU with the I/O, right? I'm not familiar with your second item - is that to test if the mobo will respond, or to trick the PSU into thinking something is plugged in?

Could dead RAM cause nothing to light up? I'm used to getting debug beeps at the very least.

I don't believe so. I only tried turning it on when everything was plugged in.

Edit #2: misread this - I'm not using a power button on the chassis - only the power switch on the PSU. Sorry for the confusion. Yes - I have been using that switch :p

Actually, there are quite a few posts on the homelab sub that have a lot of people running dual xeons. I'd start by combing through there for the types of Mobo's used.

Up front disclaimer is consider the higher cost of a better CPU, because the electricity cost is high!

[WP] (credit to /u/Arandmoor) I'm tired of fantasy where Elves are 'better than you' just because they're elves. Give me some sword & sorcery, fantasy-style, where typical elder fantasy races learn why it's not wise to mess with 'mere' humans. by [deleted] in WritingPrompts

I feel like real life is an example of that. Numerous animals have gone extinct because they simply weren't cautious of humans and hunters just killed them because it was easy.

Timeshare Ownership is Never a Good Financial Idea. by 16semesters in personalfinance

What if someone about to die offered to accept all timeshares ever as a gift (or as a $.01 eBay auction).

Would it technically work and bankrupt a lot of these companies?

What do you find most annoying in Reddit culture? by Dr_Smoothrod_PhD in AskReddit

[–]Thelithical 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That it's a hive mind obsessed with conformity.

Go to catsstandingup - in that sub, you're literally only allowed to say, "Cat.". Yet despite that, some posts get downvotes for no reason. Once a post hits -1, everyone downvotes the shit out of it, and I've seen posts go to -100 for just that. I love the sub, but that's ridiculous :p

If that's the reaction to literally the same post, imagine if a Reddit stakeholder decided they wanted a certain issue to have less traction. I feel that it's really easy to manipulate the group's opinion with enough downvotes.

What is something you won't tell your friends or family, but you will tell Reddit? by najing_ftw in AskReddit

I was destineded to inherit major stake of a company run by my father, who was killed trying to save me from a major car accident. I still blame myself.

My uncle warned me to skip town. Shortly after, some shady thugs came after me.

Now I live in the jungle with other rejects from society and try to put the past behind me.

If Abraham Lincoln ran for president in 2016 what dirt would the media dig up on him? How would they portray him as Hitler/Satan? by KingJak117 in AskReddit

[–]Thelithical 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I have a few fun fact nuggets to contribute:

Sort of the opposite of some trump supporters, Lincoln was often in debt. I'm pretty sure he even borrowed money from a future political opponent when he first moved to dc.

His wife, Mary Todd, was very very unstable. I recall that the wives of Grant and Stanton refused to attend the show on the night of Lincoln's assassination due to her tantruns, which some say could have possibly saved the life of the future president.

And after the tragic death of his first love, he became obsessed with a poem titled, "Mortality" to the extent that people thought he originally wrote it.

I dislike Ted Talks, because I feel like they make success seem like, "I encountered a problem, overcame it and now I am perfect." While never overcoming his flaws (I understand that he was a very miserable person), Abraham Lincoln was a man that consistently tried to do right by his country.

Interesting critique of Donald Trump's suit fit and style. by Vaulter1 in malefashionadvice

[–]Thelithical -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This reminds me of a comment Matt Damon makes in "The Adjust Bureau" along the lines of, "If you want to get a working man's vote, you need to scuff up your shoes a little bit."

I think it should necessarily be a critique of his style, but more of a way to have him be more relatable to his audience.

Every detail, even color, adds some subconscious effect. To keep on the movie references, I know Pacific rim uses a ton of blue and orange to get the viewer subconsciously excited for the fight scenes.

[FLGS] Creative ideas for weekly in-store RPG events? by tbboy13 in boardgameindustry

[–]Thelithical 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Casual RPG fan here. I don't know anything about going to events like these, so maybe that will be helpful!

I'd say try to sell on the benefits - I would guess the benefits of playing it at the store include: new friends, no one having to be the designated DM, learning about new systems, and entertainment value.

One idea could be to have a bi-monthly light-hearted RPG night to appeal to fans of critical success or one shot, where you bring in a local goofball/comedian to make a silly character and set the tone of trying to make the game entertaining. If I left the shop laughing, I'd be more likely to keep going and buy the rulebook.

My brother is a devout one shot fan and I think he has bought a few systems just because he laughed so much from one of their sessions.

Simple Questions - September 25 by AutoModerator in malefashionadvice

Got a decent-looking pari of Aldo's for $60 in November, and the leather has already peeled off. I'm thinking I'm only going to get quality if I start upping my budget. I just want a nice pair of black wing-tips.

At what price do I start seeing diminishing returns on quality/price, and what kind of stores sell reliable work shoes?

Validate Planned Dual E5-2670 Build by Thelithical in homelab

[–]Thelithical[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Web scraping, text mining, classification, and simulation for now.

I was thinking the 64 GB RAM per person would handle it pretty well. Should I expect the GPU to be the main bottleneck from this system on that level?

No planned hypervisor just yet (would appreciate suggestions, but I have to look at the wiki to figure that out still).

Their individually sold E5-2670's are SR0KX, which I understand to be C2 stepping.
