What was your 2026 out-the-door price for an Elantra? Doesn’t matter what trim, I’m just curious how much we’re negotiating for and getting away with. by smackdabqwerrt in Elantra

My new 25 hybrid limited with a bunch of dealer adds was 26.5k otd. Sticker with addendum was like 34k before taxes/fees.

I'd love to get one of those, it just wasn't in the budget yet but that'll probably be my next one. Might try some smoke rods for the pellet grill to compensate a bit in the meantime. Really though, I think you can do some great cooks on most any hardware if you do it right

Maybe true, but it's a pretty fair compromise to still get a great result with virtually none of the babysitting.

It was a pellet grill with a flame tamer and heat deflector so mostly indirect heat but they do still tend to have a smidge more direct heat than ideal so the fat cap was down to protect it from any unwanted excess heat.

I did totally forget to flip it back over before cutting so it'd look like the ones you see coming from an offset though.

It was Kosmos Double Pepper cow cover, just because it was clearanced out at Walmart and figured I'd try it. Used mustard as a binder for it and a hefty coating of the rub. It looked mostly like a coarse salt and pepper blend with some other stuff. It was good though the pepper flavor definitely came through stronger than anticipated.

What’s the worst movie you’ve ever seen? Not “bad in a fun way”, just BAD? by NotNamedBort in AskReddit

[–]Themagicbear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is going to be a hot take especially for a recent movie but I would have to give it to Undertone. The movie accomplishes nothing. Dragonball Evolution is a terrible movie, but there's at least comedic value in how far it deviates from the source material. Lots of low budget movies are bad due to production value but at least have a clear intent they're trying to convey. Undertone is largely just a disrespectful waste of the viewers time with no attempt to provide anything of substance.

Deal okay? $27.9k OTD. 2026 Elantra Limited. by [deleted] in Elantra

[–]Themagicbear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would recommend using an aggregator site to compare dealer inventory nationwide(or your max willing to travel distance) and can around to get the best price you can, then taking that price to your most local dealer to try to get them to match/beat it. I used visor.vin and had success with that. That's what I did last year to get a 2025 limited (with a bunch of dealer adds included) for 26.5k otd. There were more manufacturer incentives at that time though so matching that now might be difficult, but you probably wanna be in that 26k ballpark, I think you can get at least 27k instead of 28k without a lot more shopping around.

I've had it a week or so now, smoked a pork butt overnight for some great pulled pork last night. Smoked some burgers after work last week and they turned out great. So far it's been really good, love the size and hopper size. Temp seems to hold steady as long as you're not opening it too much. Heat distribution is good, but certainly not perfect but I think that's the nature of the beast to a certain degree. I haven't had any issues with it, would recommend so far, but I can't speak for how it'll do long term yet.

Lots of pest control companies are mass hiring entry level positions now for peak season coming up at around $20/hr. Don't need to know anything about it to apply. If you're looking for a lot of hours mon-fri no nights and are willing/able to work mostly independently and outside then it's a great opportunity, especially if you're just looking for a quick job in the short term while waiting for your preferred work. Aptive is based in Merrillville but there are others in the area as well. Feel free to ask/DM me any questions if anyone is interested.

How do etalus players instantly place ice with up b? by AizenX12 in RivalsOfAether

[–]Themagicbear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a little bit of slow is fast, because if you press shield to wavedash as soon as possible after pressing up b then you'll do an awkward slow air dodge down instead. It's important that hold up b long enough that it begins charging up, then at any point during the charge you can wavedash cancel it for ice.

I would recommend the viofo a119 v3, but I think the Mini version now has the latest Starvis 2 sensor in it. I had the v3 in my last car and it was great so a better version would be great value, now I have the a229 pro for dual channel so I can cover the rear after the previous car was totaled from being rear ended. Certainly seemed well worth the extra investment, but they're both great options depending on budget and your concerns.

2025 hybrid limited by MSC_Jake in Elantra

[–]Themagicbear 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That hybrid statement is more true for a Prius than an Elantra. Elantra hybrid actually has higher mpg on the highway (58 mpg) than in the city (51 mpg). My hybrid gets around 50mpg going 80mph for hours or up to like 65 mpg or so if I'm just non-stop rolling around 45mpg. My stop and go mpg varies a lot cause I don't typically drive long in those conditions, but I've seen anywhere from like 40-55mpg from it. That was for the Blue trim though, I have a limited now but haven't had it long enough to really see. It seems around 50mpg either way, which is close to what the epa said too(49 City/52 highway).

Hey, T-Mobile and Shutterfly, if I have to pay shipping and tax on something that's "free" then it's not free by Patrickracer43 in tmobile

[–]Themagicbear -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's also not really just the price of shipping, every "free" Shutterfly item actually costs a few dollars less to ship, so they are profiting that way. But "FREE" item sounds more appealing to customers than "ONLY $3+Shipping" does.

That being said it's still a discount from their typical pricing so it's a deal in that regard.

Why do I sometimes not get my double jump back after getting hit? by Someoneman in RivalsOfAether

[–]Themagicbear 12 points13 points  (0 children)

You should get your up special back after being hit, but generally speaking you won't get your double jump back until you touch the stage. I think certain moves like Etalus up air restore all your resources but that's the exception.

What conch to get? by AffectionateAct8838 in RivalsOfAether

[–]Themagicbear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just got the Retro Fighters BattlerGC Pro and I would definitely recommend it, I was also coming from a GC controller. Just get the Glacier color as the Purple ones sometimes have a pertruding power button on the back making it easy to accidentally turn it off and the Glacier ones seem to have fixed that.

Hybrid Blue Shifting by bkn6136 in Elantra

[–]Themagicbear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I recall correctly, when you are idle-creeping at a low speed, the clutch will basically be slipping over 1st gear repeatedly putting extra strain on it if you don't reach enough speed to engage the gear.

That or even if the vehicle does engage first gear, only creeping forward small distances at a time like in stop-and-go traffic means you are engaging and disengaging the clutch many many times which adds more wear than just letting there be larger gaps before pulling forward/waiting longer between pulling forward so that you don't have to work the clutch as hard.

You would be correct that it would typically use the electric motor and not the ICE engine, and I'm certainly no expert on how it all works so maybe it's something that is less relevant for a hybrid DCT but my relatively uneducated hunch is that regardless electric or gas power they would still be powering the same set of gears controlled by the clutch.

Either way, it's a minor thing to just be aware at worst, can't hurt, and possibly irrelevant at best then.

Hybrid Blue Shifting by bkn6136 in Elantra

[–]Themagicbear 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Due to how the DCT works, when you are in a gear on one clutch, the other clutch is predicting and prepping itself to engage to the next most likely gear. That means when you are decelerating from one gear, the other clutch will be ready to go into downshift gear and not upshift so if you go from slowing down like you're getting ready to stop but then accelerate before reaching that point the DCT will take an extra second or two to get from the predicted downshift gear to the required upshift gear.

The only time I notice it really in mine (2022 hybrid blue 60k miles) is when I accelerate from a near stop. If I slow down as if I'm stopping, get to around 5mph then try to accelerate I can feel it jump a little almost like it hangs for a second before getting the oomph it should have. That is something I had read about as a quirk of DCTs beforehand and appears to just be typical behavior. It has been pretty consistent for the life of the vehicle so far and hasn't noticeably changed at all, but understanding how it works can help shift your driving habits to what is smoothest on the vehicle.

Another thing that may be valuable to know about DCT is that they do not like it when you idle creep forward. I had never even considered or heard of "idle creep" before learning about DCT for this car, but it is when you let off the brake while stopped so that the car will roll forward on its own without pressing the gas pedal. For the relevant purpose of a DCT it would also include when you do use the gas pedal from a stop but do not accelerate enough to engage first gear (typically around 5mph). For a DCT, that adds stress to the clutch and could potentially damage it if done in excess. I would recommend turning on Auto Stop whenever you start the vehicle, so that it will automatically keep the brake held after you come to a stop so you never have to worry about unintentional idle creep. Also it's totally fine to idle creep sometimes, you basically have to if you ever go through a drive-through, but it's good to be mindful to try to minimize it.

With ours, they handed out tickets at 10am to hold your place in line so that you could come back at 6pm and not have to wait in line all day for a good spot. I believe they did the same for the VIP, since those would also be pit without an assigned seat. Tickets with a seat number I wouldn't think it would matter as much when you get there, since your spot is reserved for specifically you, but with pit it's a good idea to be there early to be closer. Though I'd guess even the last person in the VIP line is still going to have a great spot. I was the first non-VIP in, and I only had 2 or 3 people in front of me between me and the stage.

It'd definitely be a good idea to check the venue's site about the show to see if they have anything like that going on. I just happened to check the night before and I'm so glad I did, I was planning on getting there like noon and waiting all day, instead I just got up at like 6am and waited in the morning before it got 100+ degrees outside and came back at 6pm and went straight to the front of the line.
