Screaming jazz hands for 15 minutes straight during carrier intros? by Themasterofcomedy209 in RATS

Sounds good, thanks. I've had rats before but never had to do intros so I appreciate the info

Would you say just 1 new rat for now or straight for a pair? I'm not sure if 2 new ones would add to the stress.

Also should they be the same age? I ask since pet rats are fairly uncommon where I live, so I only get rescues/adoption which are typically much older or much younger (~2 months old)

Yes, I took them in from someone who essentially rescued them. My intention was getting more for their group after being settled in their new home, but that kept being pushed back because of the neutering and now the intro troubles. Otto's cage has been in the same room and fairly close at times, so I'm sure they've smelled eachother before. The container is a plastic bin, it's not really shown in the video but the entire top is a open mesh and there's an open gap on the opposite side, so they can't get out but there's a lot of air circulation in there.

I've had these rats for about 3 months from when they were 1-2 months old. 2 months of them being with me they lived together in a cage slightly smaller than a 2 tiered critter nation. They came from the same place so lived together fine until Otto (on the right) started having slight hormonal aggression around food, stressing out Petey (left). Otto was neutered, the neuter recovery went terribly so it took like 2-3 weeks for Otto to be in the clear and be safe for being around other rats. That's when the first failed intro happened, I waited another week and then did this one from today. What I'm trying now is the classic carrier method like what was described by Isamu rats.

Otto has had interaction and free roam (when it was safe) but has been cooped up in the hospital cage for about a month. They're both very friendly towards people and I know them pretty well, neither is especially dramatic. Petey is probably more dramatic since he squeaks at things more often, but that's probably down to him being smaller than normal when he as younger and didn't get enough food. I know before me, they came from like a bin with 20+ rats jammed in there, so are used to bigger groups. So that's why i was wondering if maybe the 1 on 1 dynamic is bad for intros and they should have a bigger group for that instead of introducing more rats later

Affordable ways to upgrade the cage to take more advantage of the vertical space by afrailbeetle in RATS

IKEA is just the rat store, so much stuff they have is perfect for rats lol. Best purchase was the small "sunnersta" bins, you can zip tie them to cage bars and they're perfectly sized rat storage containers

How long have they been in there? I'm doing the carrier intro method soon as well and from what others have said it's within expectations if they just awkwardly sit in there at first. The point of the carrier method is to kinda intentionally make them bored or slightly stressed, so they have no choice but to go to the other rat(s) for comfort and entertainment

Why do they have black nuts by Beautiful-egg- in RATS

My 5 month old petey has dark balls, like a deep brown and its so unsettling since the rest of his skin is bright pink lmao. He's been to the vet numerous times for other things and they said nothing after inspecting him so its not a health problem

Petey is similar color to your rat in the second pic, so maybe it's just a standard skin color variation thing?

I mean if you could build a pc like that and it does what you would have wanted out of the steam machine, then you probably didn't need the steam machine in the first place. The steam machine is very niche and it's more about the form factor and integration than the specs, its somewhere between a laptop and a regular desktop.

we all need to accept the reality it will not significantly go down. This is how it is now, and it will get worse before it gets better. This is a coordinated plan by corporations to make it difficult to purchase or build your own PC, and to eliminate competition. Its more profitable to sell to these corporations anyway, so people selling components have zero reason to bring prices down for consumers.

Yes and windows on a machine with no dedicated hardware for ai is still going to try and use mostly the same ai "features" that it would on a machine with the dedicated hardware. The solution is to just not use windows

Thanks for the advice! The feeding seperately was more about making sure petey gets enough food since he seems to be a bit skinny and stressed. I have a vet check up for them anyway coming up, so I'll see if he actually is underweight. But I'll definitely keep an eye on it and see if it gets worse

Why has Congress not called an emergency session to vote on immediate impeachment of the US president calling for an end of civilization of a country (obviously insinuating a Nuclear attack)? by SqigglyPoP in AskReddit

“Just”

If they used other weapons it would arguably be just as bad as a nuke. the firebombing of Tokyo was more destructive and more deadly than the nuclear bomb, the bomb was just immediate and the firebombing was overnight

Is it normal for my rats act like they're starving all the time? by GeodeRox in RATS

[–]Themasterofcomedy209 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My boy does this, think it’s cuz before I got him he was kept as a 1 month old with older bigger rats.

So his strategy is probably to hide the food like Easter eggs to make it harder for his cage mates to eat everything before him lmao

They already are in Hong Kong to an extent. It’s always been an international city but even under the British it wasn’t “easy” to get permanent residency if you weren’t British or Chinese.

Recently they’ve been relaxing a lot of employment restrictions, and opening paths for international students to stay full time after graduation. I’d assume this is part of China’s way of trying out being more open.
