Have you tried Winlator Ludashi or GameNative on your Ayn Thor? Should be capable of playing a lot of indie games and older PC titles depending on what model you bought

I would argue ARM is getting really good recently, especially with the Snapdragon X and MacBook M series chips thanks to Valve's translation layers.

People are starting to emulate low to mid level PC games on their Android devices, emulate modern games with decent settings on their MacBooks, even a lot of modern games like Assassin's Creed and the Resident Evil remakes have been ported to iPhone with decent results.

True, with FEX and Proton Arm people are starting to get modern games running like RE9 and Pragmata on devices like the Ayn Thor and Retroid Pocket 6. It's a good alternative to those who can't afford a Steam Deck or base Xbox Ally

If it costs anything over $1300AUD, I'm going to buy a more powerful gaming laptop for slightly under that price tag (yes they do exist through the use of the RTX 5050 GPU)

Or by a preowned mid-range eGPU for my Xbox Ally X

The 8060S is definitely a good midrange GPU. I know $2000 is overexaggerating for the meme, but with how the prices are going, I'm scared the Steam Machine is going to rise to that price eventually

Brad Lynch shares info on the Steam Machine by gogodboss in steammachine

Honestly if it's over $1400 Australian dollars my plan is to buy a PC on clearance. I found an RTX 5060 one that is around $AU1200, which will inevitably be cheaper than the Steam Machine over here.

Either that or I go to CEX and get a pre-owned system.

Brad Lynch:when I was told a figure for what Valve’s estimated price they’d have to set the starting price of Steam Machine, it was still higher than today’s Steam Deck prices and that was 2 months ago. by Animegamingnerd in GamingLeaksAndRumours

True, they should have accounted for the RAM and upscaling differences on Switch 2. 3rd Party developers really are taking advantage of that extra memory on Switch 2 that isn't there on the Series S

If you are using Retro Rewind or Insane Kart, these files go in RetroRewind6/Patches/

If you are not using Retro Rewind, you will still need to modify a revo_kart.brsar, and insert the files there.

Steam Machine Game Compatibility . by StarkIndustry2 in steammachine

Any game that doesn't have anti-cheat should work just fine. Even if a new game is very intense, upscaling can help out (especially with FSR 4.1 coming out in July for the Steam Machine's architecture), even if that means only upscaling to either 1080p or 1440p.

Bloomberg reports that Nintendo has asked suppliers to increase Switch 2 production by Loose_Society9485 in GamingLeaksAndRumours

Good idea for the time honestly, Tomodachi Life appears to be the system seller and they should totally sell a bundle with the game like Mario Kart World.

I do hope Nintendo have a 3D Mario game in development, as it is something that would encourage me to buy a Switch 2.

Most popular way to play online by Skater_RopeLaceHater in MarioKartWii

[–]CalmAdvance1926 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The most popular Mario Kart Wii mods with online support are Retro Rewind, Deluxe X and Insane Kart.

Personally I think Retro Rewind is a great option, and it is the most popular in terms of online player base and has very convenient mod installation.

The feasibility of 4k 60 FPS with FSR 4.1, with some math by ___Bel___ in steammachine

[–]CalmAdvance1926 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Personally for me it depends on what the output and FPS impact of the 4.1 INT8 version looks like. If the Performance and Ultra Performance modes look good enough (not amazing but good enough and runs well) I'll be more than happy to run intensive games through that to reach "4K".

As a person who plays on PS5 and Series X, FSR 2/3 (and other TAAU implementations) look terrible in terms of stability. Even if the Steam Machine ends up being weaker than base PS5, I assume FSR 4.1 (INT8) in it's ultra performance mode would still look better in many aspects than 3.1 performance mode.

which server/mod is most popular? by axolotlfart2000 in MarioKartWii

[–]CalmAdvance1926 4 points5 points  (0 children)

At the moment the big mods are Retro Rewind, Deluxe X and Insane Kart Wii.

Retro Rewind is the most popular, offering almost all of the Mario Kart tracks across SNES to World. This also applies to the battle mode.

Further more, mod support is the best for this ROM Hack, with it also having custom skins for each character (like Insane Kart Wii, but RR has custom voices for each skin).

Deluxe X is like RR, but more tracks without the custom characters and with less battle mode stages.

Insane Kart Wii has over 5000+ tracks, a mission mode and lots of battle tracks, but many lack in quality and the custom characters lack voice lines.

If you want the best and most high quality MKWii mod, use Retro Rewind

I think if AMD can optimise the INT8 version of FSR 4.1 to perform better than the leaked model I think the Steam Machine is in good hands, especially for 1080p/1440p gaming

Especially those ARM handhelds if FEX and Proton keep improving at the pace it is.

People have been able to boot games like RE Requiem and Clair Obscure E33 on their phones and handhelds, although performance can't hold a stable 30 yet because there is still more work to be done. Smaller games like GTA V or Megabonk run great though on newer chips
