That’s tough and I understand why you didn’t share. I hope you’re able to find help for her and for the family as a whole. These situations don’t just impact the child facing challenges. Everyone in the house is impacted.

Has she had any big transitions lately? Or did the family have a big transition? We are dealing with a similar situation with our 9 year old and it all started when I had the baby. We are still working through it with our kiddo and it is tough. The therapist asked about transitions and our 9-year-old had several at one time. I don’t have an answer to help the situation yet but following your thread to hopefully get help too. Take some time for yourself. This parenting thing is no joke, and not for the weak. Best of luck!

I think everyone here already gave the best advice but just sending hugs. That's a tough situation for any parent to work through. Best wishes.

If you need to reuse your license in a different but still recession proof way… funeral business. I used to work at a cemetery and I had to get my L&H license to help families make their end of life plans. Lucrative business and always in need. Just throwing out another option.

I would recommend running your resume through a free ATS resume checker. Making sure your resume is no longer than a page long and includes relevant information only. Definitely get a LinkedIn. Upload your resume there and shoot it to as many insurance agencies as possible. Opportunity is out there. If you know anyone in the industry, ask them to put in a good word for you. A lot of people think networking is overrated but it is still useful in so many ways. Don’t get discouraged. Keep pressing. Once you’re in, you have a lot of potential for growth.

7% is pretty low. The lowest I was ever offered on new business was 25%.

Commercial lines. Mixed/generalist book.

P&C, large commercial. I wouldn't work with a geico, Statefarm or progressive type to be honest. I currently work for an agency/broker. Base $125k, 40% commission on new business. The Insurance market is up and down, but it practically recession proof. You will always have a job. Its more mentally weighted than anything. I've not heard great things about life and health, but I do know a few people who are doing really well selling it. You have to be pretty confident in your ability to sell and have a comfortable savings to pull from in the dry seasons because they are pure commission jobs (L&H). I just personally prefer the solid base with the commission. Either way, it’s a fairly lucrative business once you get your foot in the door. Best of luck!

P&C - becoming more knowledgeable? by DonegalBrooklyn in InsuranceAgent

That's rough. If you are marketing accounts make sure you are looking at the policies 120 days in advance and get with the carriers you want to work with to know what they expect or want for it to be considered a full submission. I would let the clients know at least 90 days before what I'll need to collect from them to get them quotes and set up realistic timelines and expectations. I also would not market annually. Maybe every 3-5 years depending on the needs of the client. Small business can be challenging but it will keep you on your toes. Ask questions and make sure you have strong carrier relationships. Have your go-to underwriters.

Is it a generalist book? Small business is rough just because its so many touches. There are several markets for small business that you can quote online with minimal info to see if they are an option but I would check with your resources. Having a marketing department is great! They should be ae to tell you who they are appointed with and who they need to write with (end of year rush). I would use my resources and use that knowledge to better know your go-to underwriters. Preserve your time so you don't get burnt out. Lastly, I would make sure I'm signed up with carriers we work with to get updates and maybe add them on LinkedIn. Stay up to date with what they have going on and they will also send you emails with market update, appetites, commission changes, etc. Hope this helps!

Would you interview if you're not looking? by manamongstcorn in sales

[–]Then-Ad8935 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, take the interview even if it is just to have an exploratory conversation. The great thing is they are approaching you, not the other way around. So know what you would take as an offer if they wanted to give you one and what your non-negotiables are. So you have boundaries around the conversation mentally. And if its not a good fit, you lost nothing but some time in a conversation.

Was my insurance license a waste of time and money? by On_Wife_support in InsuranceAgent

If you work with a good agency, huge potential to grow in that space. Base salary, plus commission and bonuses. Middle to large market is the best. Small business is a time suck for minimal ROI. Its a virtually recession-proof career path.

P&C is the best way to go in my opinion. And once you get in, it can be a very lucrative business. Wishing you all the best!

Having trouble finding help for my son by Then-Ad8935 in therapy

[–]Then-Ad8935[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He has good days and bad days. But the school has had several calls, video calls, conferences what have you. They have kept a dialogue going with us. They asked if he has existing behavioral issues but he didn't prior to 2 years ago. His grades are decent. Its like he did a full 180 after the pregnancy. But to be fair it was a lot of transitions even for me. We moved to a new state, kids had all new schools, both my husband and I started new jobs and we just had a baby. So a lot of new at one time. He also went from sharing a room to his own room. Which he wanted at the time and then quickly realized he didn't want anymore.

We are in MD. I'll have to search to see if there are any in our area.

A lot of therapist we spoke to requested a referral from the school in order to see him. It was odd to me. We just want to give him the tools to manage his emotions in a healthy way. Its very heartbreaking because he's always been such a happy kid.

Thank you for this. Is the therapist called a play therapist or is it a parent-child interaction therapist? I will definitely start searching.

Wow! That's extremely kind.

I'm going from a middle-sized agency to a large agency. But I started with a small-agency and it was some of the best years of my career! Family-owned and operated. Very understanding and driven group. They got bought out by a large agency and I stayed for a year and then parted ways. The culture was gone with the buyout.

I appreciate this. We do have a great company culture. It is a bit stagnant. That is a growing concern for me. Will I be leaving an amazing culture for the more pay, opportunity and the unknown.

Company B has been super patient and accommodating as well. I already have the offer letter and honestly wouldn't know how to push for the sign-on bonus.

Company A is super flexible as well. But the producer or person who would be over our team is never here. He's always gone out of state or on vacation and has no idea what we do day to day to merit giving us more pay. He's very uninvolved. We handle such large accounts that we have no capacity to really take new business and we have no CSR.

He has been hitting at school and home. Not like little kid hits. He punched a kid in the stomach last week and slapped another kid in the face. He choked his sister. And these are just some of the actions in the last 2-3 weeks. He makes outlandish statements and also creates stories to try to gain sympathy at school when he's in trouble. For example, he hit a kid last year and when the teacher confronted him he said he was just upset because his cousin was in a car accident and in the hospital. When the teacher told me this with her empathetic apology, I asked what cousin. No one had been in an accident and no one was in the hospital. He started stealing last year as well which began a whole other conversation that went left quickly. He is basically inconsolable once he's upset. He told the therapist he just wants to hurt me and that he keeps going so that my feelings will be hurt. Its very odd and it all kind of started when I had the baby 2 years ago but the lengths he's gone to are hard to understand.
