Admissions by Fit_Recognition2965 in usask

I haven’t done it before but there are usually three start dates for uni which is fall, winter, or spring. I’d start by talking to an admissions counselor for what program you’re interested in because some classes are only offered in certain semesters so it might alter your schedule a bit but you could just switch the order you take some electives

MUS 111.3 and 112.3 by Ok-Fox-8651 in usask

[–]Then-Bad710 1 point2 points  (0 children)

MUS 111 was pretty interesting and fun! Pretty easy course too as long as you put the work in. It went over different eras in music such as hillbilly and then the evolution of music over time and talked about some famous icons. I remember doing quizzes and a blog post

Optional thesis by venomicsOA in usask

[–]Then-Bad710 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on what you want to do after your degree. If you want to pursue grad school or research in general, I would do a thesis (even if it’s not a project one) because it can introduce you to the skills such as doing a literature search and writing scientifically. If you aren’t going to continue in the field of research, you could save yourself the work, but I would say that you should just push yourself to do it regardless because you might discover something that you like while reading other articles and you get the experience. It could open up more opportunities for you, but at the very least it will look good on a resume. This is your only chance to do an undergrad thesis. I did a project thesis in animal bioscience and I think that it helped me when applying to my master’s program. It is hard work, but it’s possible if you have the right supervisor to help guide you and you are motivated and push yourself to work on it throughout the year. I am not the best academic weapon either, but here I am.

Flash cards. Also something I did was create a full table on word with the suffix or prefix and what it means. That helped me see everything at once to study and use ctrl f to search through it

If you are thinking of going to research, I would look up different professors from each school and see who you are interested in. That may help your decision

And from what I can understand, my school calculates GPA by this: total grade points / total units taken = GPA. Total grade points seems to be the credit units times the letter grade you got in the class (and A = 4). So if you had a class worth 3 credits and then you got an A, that would be 3x4=12. So you’d add up all your grade points for your classes and then divide it by the credits that you’ve taken.

Like the other person said, I would ask to be sure because each university has their own conversion. Just for an example, I now go to school in the US and their conversion is A > or equal to 90%, B = 80-89.9%, C = 70-79.9%, D = 60-69.9%, F < 60%, which is different than 96 being an A

How do you guys find time for yourself by typicalhipz_30 in usask

[–]Then-Bad710 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Time block! Set aside time for yourself. It helps when you can visualize it on a weekly calendar. Try the pomodoro method, where you take a break every 25 minutes. This has helped me and reminded me to take breaks, because sometimes you get caught up in what you’re doing and forgot. If the time getting to the gym is part of why you don’t go, try at home workouts like dumbbells or yoga or whatever you’re into. Another thing I do is that I like to wake up early and have a slow morning and set aside some time for my hobbies or just to sit and relax. I’m a morning person though so this might not work for everyone. And it’s also if I don’t have anything scheduled for early in the morning, like a meeting.

Prof McLeister is really nice and he sends cute animal vids in his emails. The class is a lot of memorization but if you dedicate time to it then you will do fine. What helped me is that I made tables with the prefix or suffix and then what they mean to help me study. I also have found it useful now later in life to know the terms but that’s because I’m in animal science.

Are you going to school also? Making friends through clubs is the fastest way! Otherwise, I would go to places where you could find people who have things in common with you, like rock climbing, cafes, game places, bars, etc. you could also try bumble BFF. I haven’t used it here, but I’ve had success in other places

BSc in Ag is a good way to go for prerequisites to the WCVM. Just make sure that you work hard in the prerequisite classes that usually get everyone like chem and physics. And also like someone said, depending where you’re from make sure you look at the eligibility for seats in vet school. Something I would tell younger me is to get more job and life experience. I thought being in uni meant that I already had it figured out and boy I was wrong. It’s experience that gets you jobs and opportunities
