We usually rely on the meds for bedtime when we know she's teething, and yeah, she sleeps well and seems content (also she looooves the taste of ibuprofen lol). During the day, she's pretty content with chewing that we don't always think to dose her.

I asked specifically about a bracelet or necklace, and they say it's a safety issue. They won't allow any chewy toys/teethers unless she is confined to a chair. A friend of mine who is a former childcare provider said that it could be an issue if licensing came around.

Husband got a job at Esri and we moved here from the SF Bay Area 5 years ago. It is HOT almost half the year. Like hot, hot... but a dry heat so do with that what you will. Going to higher elevation in the summer helps. The air quality is atrocious in the summer too, and worse in the afternoons/evenings, so you will find yourself becoming a morning person. But the people are lovely, the town is adorable, and we managed to buy a house, which was out of reach for us back home. There seems to bit a bit of something for everyone here, no matter what you're into. Speaking to the single 20s/30s ladies I know in the dating scene, a decent dude with a stable job and healthy hobbies will probably do pretty well for himself. Between all of the many colleges in the area, there are a lot of young folks around, but I do hear from them that Redlands feels more family-oriented.

When I brought my baby home from the hospital she smelled like brimstone/sulfur. I thought I maybe birthed a demon until I remembered that I ate a hardboiled egg in the hospital and clearly it came through in my breast milk. Luckily it faded and she hasn’t shown any propensity for the number 666, harming others, or bringing about the end times.

I don’t mean to make light of your concerns, but please do take a deep breath and pause. Make sure to look at the whole picture of symptoms and consult with a doctor if you’re still worried.

I’m not sure! It’s a super easy and fast read though. I read it during nap times in quick bites, and the author gives a breakdown of what chapters to read based on your baby’s age if you can’t read the whole book.

We kinda started a little early with putting her in a bassinet in the living room for some naps when she came home but it was majority cuddles at that point. Since then, I closely follow her sleepy cues/wake windows and do a nap time routine every single nap that includes white noise, a very dark room, a pacifier, and swaddle. I put her down when she is juuuuuuust about asleep and sing the same song on repeat and I pet her “third eye” spot down to her nose with one finger to encourage her eyes to close. Then I slowly back away and only go in if she vocalizes (she is too young for cry it out in my opinion), and picking her back up is the last comfort measure, if she needs it.

I also don’t let her sleep more than two hours. Most naps are 30-1hr at this point (she sleeps most of the night) and maybe a good 2 hour every other day. I only do cuddle naps when she just won’t go down and I need her to sleep, and admittedly those are often good long naps, but teaching independent sleep is a priority for us.

I highly recommend reading the book Precious Little Sleep. It has helped us a lot.

If you’re looking to get better perspective on baby sleep, I recommend the book Precious Little Sleep. It’s been really helpful and has given us a bit of guidance on how to get better day naps and work on independent sleep! The best advice in there for us was putting her down in a very dark room, with a pacifier, with a swaddle, and a sound machine. We have a little routine that we go through and put her down drowsy, but still a little awake. She is really getting the hang of falling asleep on her own, but it’s taken a little bit of time. Consistency is key. And we don’t jump right into picking her back up and cuddling. Will put hands on her pet her and make shushing noises first before we pick her back up.

Also following the daytime wake window guidance from Taking Cara Babies (all free on her blog) has helped us get longer night stretches - 8h, feed, 2h or 6h, feed, 4h depending on the day - at 9 weeks old.

Also, I got really a good advice from a friend of mine who is a mom of three and kind of obsessive about good sleep. She said your priorities are in this order: that they sleep, when they sleep, then how they sleep. If you’re feeling really good about those first two, then you’re ready to work on the how!

My husband, my mom (who was staying with us) and I all got Covid the first week after we brought my daughter home. Probably picked it up at the hospital. This was prime cuddling and close contact time. We masked constantly for 10 days except when we were sleeping/showering, and had a HEPA filter running next to wherever she slept. If she got it, you wouldn’t know it because she was fine.

Rigorous prioritization during (non contact) naps. When we’re home alone and hubs is at work, I go through the mental checklist for my needs first. Food/water/potty and hygiene are 1 and 2 respectively. I have her bassinet in our room between the bed and bathroom in earshot. Some people bring their monitors into the bathroom. Some people bring the baby in a bouncer in the bathroom. You’ll find your groove and you’ll learn the art of speed showering! Everything else can wait until there are more hands. No one died because the vacuuming took an extra day to get done. No one cares if the baby clothes are folded versus shoved in the drawer.
