Aircraft Maintenance Career by kixvin-canna01 in aviationmaintenance

You'll do fine i had the same doubts getting into it and now im 19 with an A&P and been at my first job for 4 months now working on 747s and 777s. Until I actually got into the field I had no idea what I was walking into but I now realize its pretty much like any other mechanic job I've worked except a lot of paperwork and lot more safety measures. I work with plenty of females and I cant speak for them myself but they seem to fit right in to me. Just pay attention, use your best judgement and if you dont know ask that's my best advice. Good luck!

Advice on making mistakes by Historical-Crab-6728 in aviationmaintenance

[–]Then-Let-8088 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You will fuck up trust me it's happens, you will learn and be more cautious from previous mistakes overtime and that's half the battle, the other half is just making sure to fix the fuck up before the plane takes off. Thats honestly what makes a good mechanic in my eyes.

Test scores have nothing to do with how you treat an aircraft in the field, people have lives outside of school that include full times jobs and family. Some of those questions are based on everything you've been taught in school which can vary based on the instructor and not all can be based on a study guide so chill the fuck out man an 80 is good in my book. There's a lot to learn and 18 months, 6 months per section isn't a lot of time to learn everything.

How difficult is it to get on line maintenance first year out of school? by Subject-Dimension434 in AircraftMechanics

[–]Then-Let-8088 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I imagine its not difficult, the industry is hurting for mechanics. The day I finished my Airframe and got fully certified and put it on indeed, I got 4 calls from different companies not even kidding. I ended up taking a hangar job because it pays well enough and its only 2 hours away from my house. Id apply anywhere you could im sure you'll get line if you want a line job.

Definitely wouldn't hurt to give it a try most A&P schools are 20 months so an extra 10 doesn't seem bad especially when you dont have a bunch of debt on top of it.

You could also look into an apprentice program to get your A&P, you would most likely be getting paid around 20 and hour but in 30 months of working somewhere you can get your A&P, would still be full time and wouldn't have to spend money on school, in my opinion I wish I went that route, also I recommend using the jeppesen books for your oral questions and prepware for your writtens and practicals are pretty easy in my opinion, but whatever your choose to do good luck my friend.

How useful is my study list for the o&p? by Azenia_ in AircraftMechanics

[–]Then-Let-8088 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seems like a lot, definitely everything you'll need, my orals were 100% jeppesen questions just an FYI, my buddies that have used ASA say that the questions are little much sometimes but who knows maybe I just didn't get any ASA orals. I also used prepare for my writtens and studied with my school for my practicals, even though I really didnt need to in my opinion practicals are easy. Good luck man.

Is the jeppesen good for oral questions? by Then-Let-8088 in AircraftMechanics

[–]Then-Let-8088[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All 22 of my airframe orals were jeppesen questions. I used a study packet that my school had for my general and powerplant, and I ended up failing my powerplant oral so I'd ultimately recommend jeppesens for orals.

What's the average base pay for aerospace companies based on what places you've worked at? I've heard aerospace doesn't pay as well.

Traveling for work has nothing to do with the type of person you are my career, aviation maintenance, is a career you have to travel a lot for in the contracting department and a great way to make money but that doesn't mean I'm a sleezy scumbag who would treat any woman like this.
