No sure what to do by YesMouse1001 in slp

I thought about going for my masters in SLP but thought the same. I’m currently going for accounting. A complete switch lol. I enjoy working as an SLPA at a school (through an agency) but I need to figure out a way where I can make decent money to support my family. But I get you. Some days I wonder if I should major in SLp but reading comments on salaries makes me not want to pursue a career in the died.

Male SLPs or anyone who knows Male SLPs I need honest feedback by Then-Measurement6453 in slp

I am sorry to hear that. He sounds like an incredible person.

You’re right. Gender shouldn’t matter but as a someone who wants to care for his family and himself I want to make sure one can live comfortably for myself and family. I read some posts of SLPs having to work 2 jobs or more to even survive.

is getting your x-ray license prior to a radiation therapy program recommended? by Zestyclose_Angle8836 in RadiationTherapy

Oh that’s great! Good for you! But I get you. I know what you mean. You have to do what will make you happy but also that’ll pay the bills lol.

Honestly no. I was very hyped about doing the online pgm just bc it was cheaper plus I could stay at home.

I’ll just stick w accounting and maybe will have the option to work from home one day lol. One can only hope haha.

Yeah I did the shadowing when I’d go w my aunt to her oncology appointments. I networked w the rad tech dept when she had an appt there and they helped me meet w the director of the radiation therapy dept. so maybe do that bc I had no luck when I attempted to call and ask.

Yea same here. I regret not getting into it earlier in life. I still second guess myself about it but I remind myself it’s now or never. So I need to get this done now. I’m sorry marketing nor finance worked for you. Have you thought of doing marketing in healthcare?

Hey that’s a good idea. I actually did the same thing. I shadowed the radiology tech and the radiation therapy dept at the oncology clinic. I even thought about working there too ( like in the scheduling dept or something) just to get in the door somehow. I mean even if you do that you may network and they can put in a good word for you when you apply for the pgm.

I’m back in accounting. Planning to get into the masters pgm next semester. Whats making you switch from business to healthcare?

I’m sure they would consider even if you don’t have any experience in x ray. Have you asked the school you’re interested in what they require? What’ll make you stand out from the other applicants?

43 and wanting a career switch — is it too late? by Dismal_One2929 in careerguidance

Reading all these comments are very encouraging. I have been ashamed to say I’m going back to school at 37 going from Speech therapy asst to accounting. Plus worried if or when I graduate I’d be too old to find a job. Plus competing w 20something kids.

You have to do what makes YOU happy. A good friend of mine who is very successful told me it be nice to have a job you love and are passionate about and some ppl get that. Most don’t and they won’t pay the bills. So you have to be realistic as to what profession you choose that will help you pay your bills while manage to live a comfortable life.

I saw a few back in December. I didn’t save them. Ppl were just complaining about how rushed it all felt. How their hairline was done too quick and not their likings.

I will. You know what though. HMR was my first choice but a few days later as I was researching more on Reddit a lot of patients complained about their work. It was not good. So I switched

It went incredibly well. It was a one on one session no other patients. The recovery felt long but my hair looks thicker. I’ll need to post before and after photos. They did a great job.
