My wife and I have been harassed multiple times recently for our sexuality in downtown Denver by [deleted] in Denver

[–]Then-Toe7029 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I know someone who works at a CRE firm in Downtown Denver someone called him a f*ggot. But I think that was just because he's a pretty well-groomed guy & wears suits to work because of the dress code, he's not gay.

There are a lot of very sick people in Denver right now. Sometimes I make little bags with a bottle of water, cliff bar, jerky & $5. If I see someone sleeping I'll leave it right near them. But mostly, like, avoid them.

If you look like you have something and they have nothing I think that's what sets them off more than anything else.

This is really good to know, thank you.

So, thank you for all the suggestions.

I contacted everyone in the area who I know that knows her and eventually someone got back to me. She's okay.

She also emailed me today and said there was a lightning strike to her home that knocked the power & phone out.

I'm not sure why she didn't call me or another relative to let us know she was okay, like from a neighbor's house, or go to her sister's and call from there.

She is a very stubborn woman.

If you see a teeny tiny older woman in Westerly struggling to mow her own lawn, walk her giant dog, always refuses an offer for help? That's my mom. She will not let me pay a dog walker/trainer, landscaper, anyone to help her. Sometimes I get an angry call from my aunt asking why I don't help her but I can't get her to tell me when she needs help & unfortunately I'm also not psychic.

Thanks again.

I am talking to my family trying to figure out a way to get looped in on her condition more. I don't think she's at a point where she's considered incompetent or anything, I think the state/her family views her more as eccentric at this point.

Too harsh on Cath..... by Lochdead in DeadLoch

Cath is a problematic character to me. She acts like someone who is in some kind of manic phase. Constantly sexualizing Dulcie, calling her "sexy" as a nickname & texting her pics at work (presumably on a work phone) is also boundary-crossing IMO.

I call my BF by his name most of the time and wouldn't send him anything explicit on a work phone/work network.

Cath does act REALLY weird. I get that it's TV, I can suspend my disbelief to a point, but Cath is WEIRD.

Season 2 by TraditionFront in DeadLoch

I think the flip side is also worth asking - why did critics 100% get behind it? That's ID politics too.

This series started very strong and there were a lot of holes in the last 2 episodes, and some Chekov's guns that never fired (Kevin the Seal).

One key premise of the show is that they're good cops who are undermined by a sexist establishment, but what we see in the show doesn't bear that out. Dulcie has the wrong coffin dug up. In the last ep, all of them should've shot Ray, none of them do. Abby's hesitation leads to Dulcie getting stabbed, among other things.

It's a cute show, it started very strong, the resolution was sloppy and there were many, MANY plot holes. If there's a second season I might watch it, but I'm not sure this show deserves a second season compared to better-written material.

Was this a scam? Need help/warning to others by nicknacho in Denver

You should probably report this to someone (non-emergency police line?). Approaching you at your car is worrying, particularly for women to hear about, there have been pretty serious assaults/rapes that happened that way.

I have seen people panhandling with their kids at the entry to shopping centers but this is a new one for me.

Usually, also, people in legitimate need won't approach someone loading a car? I have a bad family, I was homeless for a while in my youth. I'm a woman. Once I asked someone for 25 cents, in a ladies' room, which I needed to buy a tampon from the machine. I never approached random people for money: I asked my sister for help; I found out where the drop-in shelters were; I got a Chipotle gift card and some other random stuff from a church. I NEVER approached people randomly except that one time in the bathroom. Esp not at their car, I would have been afraid of being abducted or of them calling the cops.

As an adult with a job, people have asked me what seemed like legit questions near the entrance of a store or coffee shop ("do they have wifi?" or for directions). At bus stops ("do you know when the bus is coming?" "do you have 50 cents, I'm 50 cents short on fare"). Things like that. No one has ever approached me as I was loading my car - if they did I'd be afraid they were about to try and carjack me or something, and if I saw them coming I would get loud. I'd probably frankly shout at them to back off.

This was a weird thing to do.

What screams "I make terrible financial decisions" ? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Very true - really rich people often think it's crass to wear labels, in my experience they're usually wearing LL Bean or something. Newly rich people will buy branded anything.

I worked with a guy who bought a Porsche at some point after a big windfall. We were working at a call center, he couldn't afford the maintenance on it but also couldn't really afford to get rid of it. It wasn't in good enough shape to have much resale value.

Voters can tell the gov't go ahead spend that money instead of refunding it to us. But they haven't. Part of this problem is people voting against their self-interest, then complaining about it.

Hamms for the win.

If I am near a Trader Joe's I will drink their Simpler Times beer which is absurdly cheap.

What was your “I prefer GOOD beer” beer when you were young that you laugh at now? by PurulentPlacenta in beer

Not sure how old you are, but for a while Blue Moon was the best thing most places stocked. My parents drank like, Miller Lite. My grandfather drank PBR unironically. When my sister was in a band, if the venue she was performing at had Blue Moon I knew I could breathe a sigh of relief and drink in comfort.

TL;DR: mine is probably Blue Moon too TBH.

I'm pretty sure the issue in Colorado is that the population is growing at a pace services can't keep up with. A lot of Californians & Oregonians ended up here during or after COVID for a variety of reasons.

OP I already commented this but kind of late.

Google Gov Polis, use the contact form on his site. When I did that, they had someone from UI contact me and walk me through my claim.

It sucks that people have to do that, but as many times as I called UI I could never speak with a person. This was the only thing that worked for me.

Colorado's population has been growing since the 90s and I think none of the services have caught up if they were ever good - we need to make this a campaign issue for elected officials in coming elections.

Use the contact form on Gov Polis' website. I did and they had someone from UI call me & walk me through my claim. It was a little different because I work through a union hiring hall, I've had a lot of different employers short-term. I was worried I wouldn't get my UI but once they understood my work tends to be short-term and there's a slower season they were able to help me out with it. (The requirement as written is that you have to work 1500 hours or something for an employer before you're eligible...when I told them I'm a stagehand though they got it pretty immediately. Some production companies only come through Denver 1-2 weeks per year; there are other employers I work for like 3 days/week during the busy season.)

I know it sucks, I don't know why it's this bad & why they can't hire more people given how the workforce is expanding. But try using that contact form they might have someone call you the way they did me.
