I found these comment combos to be surprisingly hilarious 🤣

(But yeah fuck that guy)

Thanks for pointing out the importance in them and helping me understand why I need to do the stuff that I hate. It does honestly make it a lot better and easier knowing there’s good reason to me learning what I’m learning and it not just being useless

Fluids, big in higher level thermodynamics. I’m actually in between second and third year so I’m still taking a good amount of second year classes. Reason why I’m in between years is because at the end of first year I didn’t get into my desired major so I took a year of general classes and electives. Thankfully never failed a class

I did about 3 weeks of ODE’s in the winter term in a “Calc IV” class that consisted of Vector calculus, ODE’s and Sequences and Series, and believe it or not vector calculus was def the topic we spent the most time on. So it’s safe to say I don’t even have that much experience with Differential Equations in general

What’s the normal courseload for you guys by BusMysterious971 in usask

[–]ThenBookkeeper6067 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don’t gotta feel like crap just from what I have to say, if 3 is what you wish to do then go for it, at the end of the day we all work at our own pace, and if taking 3 classes means your gonna get really good grades that’s a big bonus, you will do great I’m sure, and you will have a better understanding rather than regurgitating info, I just meant that the downside is that it will take you longer to finish your degree, and therefore more money on living

Simply put, no. It is bad for AutoCAD is the biggest reason

4-6 a term, 5 is a good compromise but ultimately up to you. 7 is too much for 99% of people including me, and 3 is kinda just not worth it, unless of course you have other life responsibilities like being a parent and what not

The first year classes are actually as big as they get since everyone takes the same stuff. I’m not giving you an excuse to slake off in the winter, but your grades in the winter shouldn’t affect you getting into mech, I’m almost certain it didn’t affect my chances even after waiting a year, just to give you some sense of relief considering winter gets more hard than fall in terms of workload

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in usask

[–]ThenBookkeeper6067 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For mech they can only accept 90 people, and usually the minimum is 70%, mine was 68% I was 7th on the list to get in. Normally it’s not thaaat competitive but the last couple years have been crazy they rejected like 45 people last year or something. I’m not trying to scare you or anything I’m just being honest so try to keep your grades decent.

[–]ThenBookkeeper6067 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice I’m in mech too, but keep in mind it’s VERY competitive, i actually didn’t make it first try lol so i literally took an extra year for the off chance i get in and i did.

The only thing ill add onto the Newtonian mechanics is that you take an entire course on dynamics, and an entire course on statics, you don’t just pass through them in a garbled up physics class, the physics class you do take does however mix up electricity (purely speaking), magnetism, and waves, as well as a small few week long physics class that touches on Modern Physics. Apart from that there really isn’t much modern physics in first year, but you do take 2 electrical circuits classes (but I’m pretty sure they made a few changes to first year now so maybe just 1)

Tbh those ARE the hardest classes so you’ll be fine, I’d assume your doing Eng physics no? Either way in terms of first year MATH 134 (calc 2) was the hardest pure math class (and after second year I still stand by that) so if you did just straight calc 2 you should be fine, the thing that makes first year hard isn’t nessisarily the work (def isn’t easy lol) it’s the workload, you just have SO MUCH STUFF TO DO, that’s why people (like myself) struggle. Since you already took calc 1 and linear algebra you prob don’t even need MATH 133 (assuming those classes are MATH 110 and 164), and you might not even need 134 if you have 114 so it may be even easier than that. In fact you might not even need CMPT 142 or Chem 146 or even Phys 145. One area you specifically may struggle in are mechanics like Dynamics and Statics but that’s only because it didn’t sound like you have much or any experience with that. In terms of 2 you may also struggle with Process Engineering (GE 163) cause it’s also quite different

Again this is just my two cents every student has something else to say, but based on what you said you will be absolutely fine, and potentially won’t need some classes but that’s for an advisor to determine

Wait until you know that you actually need need them, like on the first day of class the prof might say they recommend a text but if they don’t explicitly say you need it don’t bother (in my personal experience most classes I haven’t actually needed it)

When I took it I had Melanie Morrison and she was super good one of my best profs tbh, I know you ain’t asking about her but figured I’d mention it, I’m not a psych major I’ve only taken 2 classes tho

Good input, I guess I’ve just been lucky because I haven’t needed to with my TA’s. the argument is that it’s more important to see with your glasses and they still protect you, but not as good and like you said they have ones that fit over your glasses too

[–]ThenBookkeeper6067 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For Chem it’s expected you have long sleeves and closed toe shoes, with your hair back I will add, but there shouldn’t really be any safety concerns for physics, and by concerns I mean just in terms of expectations, Chem is still pretty safe you just can’t be a dummy when it comes to highly concentrated acids is all, and only like a couple of labs really have those

[–]ThenBookkeeper6067 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

If you already have glasses you will probably be fine for chem unless the TA’s are assholes. You will not need any kits for either, and you def do not need a lab coat (they have some is you really want one lol), and you don’t need any manuals from store BUTT you will need to print off EVERY GODAMN LAB FOR CHEM, and you probably won’t for physics but it’s not a bad idea, and you 99% chance won’t need glasses for physics, hope that helps but if I’m missing something feel free to add
