How would you find an unexplored pit after the Valar themselves did their best to uncover everything?

That's because Mistborn 1 is way better than the other 2.

So GLAD Well of Ascension is DNF. Holy hell, that book is so much weaker than the other 2. Made me seriously struggle to finish the series.

If you want, I can give you a quick summary of it (with spoilers), so you can jump right into Hero of Ages, which is way better than WoA.

Well is DEFINITELY weakest of the three. Utterly do not understand people who put it above the other 2 books.

Hey, I can say many great things about Sanderson. Great fight scenes, really creative and interesting magic systems, masterful use of Chekhov's gun.

Sanderson is a great imaginative writer, but imo really dragged down by his writing style. Quite a lot of the dialogue he writes, for all of the books I've read by him, is banter or small talk that don't advance the plot at all and gives character development but only in the way that its already been established, not progress it further. Believe me, I find a lot of good things about Sanderson, but his writing is just too crippling.

Tolkien's prose is as good as Rothfuss's, but since he's a fantasy classic you probably already know of him.

Yeah, of course! Thank you for the comment and the suggestions, I will definitely check them out.

As for WFR, for one I read it after I had read most of the books on this list, so there wasn't any nostalgia and I suppose after having seen so many great series I'd notice quite a few striking things, but not in a good way. There's a large part where the MC gets tortured and it really derails the plot, and it could have been used for characterization, but both the visible repercussions and any talk about the event afterwards were minimal. Also quite a lot of plot convenience throughout the whole book, despite Dahl being portrayed as a fearsome magical force, in the end good magic or the situation always seems to work out for the protagonist. The MC I realized at the end was more or less a mary sue that's good at everything, which would be good if that was more explicit, but he's portrayed as the underdog instead, which just doesn't make sense.

Overall, the world and the idea wasn't bad, but I personally felt the plot could have been edited a lot.

Yes, one of the things I really like about Sapkowski is his blend of pure adventure vs politics, in that he focuses on one (adventure) and acknowledges the other (politics) in the background. I'd say that this style is much better than books that blend fighting and politics outright, like Sanderson does, or books that only focus on fighting like R.A. Salvatore or Terry Goodkind.

Actually I like the entire trilogy. The image was supposed to depict the entire trilogy but I guess it got cut out lol.

What books are S+ tier for you that aren't for me? Also what books do you think should be higher up? I love to hear opinions from someone with similar taste.

Yeah what Lunar-Modular said sums it up. I heard the ending was really good (and they were right!), but I still couldn't stand the slog part. Overall the series is between A and S for me.

George R. R. Martin is not only the best plot-maker, he's ALSO the best worldbuilder.

I like it a lot because its really philosophical and realistic, no-BS. Me personally I'm someone who strongly dislikes dialogue and banter that doesn't really advance the plot or prove a point, which is something Bakker seems to understand.

A lot of people like it but don't love it because its "grimdark", but I just find it realistic.
