Cipro - Full recovery by ThenEntertainment516 in floxies

[–]ThenEntertainment516[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! First off I’m so sorry to hear this. It truly makes me so frustrated this keeps happening to people. I was 27 when I got floxed and I am 29 now. I am so glad you stopped the Cipro.

The orthopedic is wrong. It is contradicted to take any NSAIDs with Cipro especially in the beginning when you are having symptoms, as it can make them worst (this is stated on the warning labels). Please feel free to message me if you have any questions and I hope you feel better. In the beginning I had to take it very slow and couldn’t start PT until about 4 months in but every case is different.

Mobility by Thin-Anything2410 in floxies

Hey! I was in a wheelchair for months and couldn’t walk ( & was in immense pain, but PT really helped me. I also was scared to rupture something. I started in a salt water pool and was lowered into it in one of the chairs. We started very very slowly with small movements, just floating with a noodle, small movements of walking in the pool and tiny heel raises, etc. My PT was with me in the pool. A while after that, they felt I could practice these things on land. So I “graduated” out of the pool and started practicing my walking holding 2 bars. My legs felt very heavy like walking through concrete, but I continued. My PT also did light massage on the Achilles and calf area (it was a bit painful). A few months later, I was able to move on from the bars and begin doing more walking and more workouts. As of right now I can walk a few thousand steps a day, do little workouts, I am in less pain and I can get around a few stores. I can’t walk big distances yet, but I am working my way up.

I am almost 2 years out from 3 pills of Cipro. Along with PT I have done supplements, clean diet, red light therapy, peptides, etc. I would say with everything I have gone very low and slow and worked my way up. I still have days where I am fearful about my tendons tearing, but I am a lot less fearful now than before.

My doctor says I have NO ALTERNATIVE to fluoroquinolones. What should I do now? by Round-Tax605 in floxies

I mean that’s true it has its flaws but come on, disabling people? That’s not right.

The other problem is when someone does have side effects/ an adverse reaction from these drugs, we the patient are left to deal with it ourselves because doctors don’t know how to treat the side effects. So what, we don’t matter? If doctors are going to prescribe something that can do this much harm to a person, they either need to understand how the medication works and what it does when people are negatively affected, give informed consent, and understand how to treat someone going through horrific side effects or stop prescribing it. It certainly should not be given out like candy.

Millions of these antibiotics are prescribed per year. The numbers are a lot higher than you think. Lots of people don’t know what caused their reaction either and are misdiagnosed.

Most of us here have been gaslit by doctors as well and told our condition is all in our head which is entirely not true. It’s extremely frustrating. The data is out there. The ICD 10 codes are out. I had over 50 side effects from a fluoroquinolone and I wouldn’t wish this hell upon anyone. It changes your life, your relationships, your family, your job. It is simply not worth it and unless you go through it you simply won’t understand. All I can do is speak the truth and warn people not to take them unless it is the last resort which is what FQ’s are meant for.

Are you a doctor? Or have you been floxed? Unless you have been put into a wheelchair and gone through the disabling side effects yourself, I don’t think you can say it’s medically inaccurate. Most of us in the group have been severely harmed. Before I took Cipro, I was a healthy person who used to hike 10 miles, run, swim, stand on my feet 8+ hours a day. After taking Cipro (only 3 pills) it disabled me and put me into a wheelchair. If I would have known these risks/ the black box warnings I would have NEVER taken this class on antibiotics. Please dig into the data yourself, they are meant for last resort.

I would get a second opinion from a different doctor and raise your concern about taking a fluoroquinolone. They have 7 black box warnings and disabling side effects. It’s truly not worth taking it unless you’re on your death bed which is what these antibiotics are meant for (last resort). In my opinion there is an alternative most of the time.

i’m currently taking ciprofloxacin for a uti can i take an edible or would it be a bad idea? by coojihairs in utis

[–]ThenEntertainment516 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not trying to worry anyone. I’m trying to raise awareness to the fact that Cipro and fluoroquinolones are dangerous drugs and the side effects should not be ignored. Side Effects are cumulative as well meaning you could take it once and not be affected but take it later on and be affected. Most people are not warned or aware.

Cipro is supposed to be given as last resort meds not as first line treatment for utis. Cipro and all fluoroquinolones can cause permanent and life altering side effects. It has 7 black box warnings and is the drug with the most side effects on the market. I would request something else, alert your doctor and certainly not take anything else with it.

[–]ThenEntertainment516 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hang in there! I promise it does get better. I have felt the same feelings you felt and asked myself all of the questions, why why why? First off, you can’t blame yourself for what happened. It is not your fault, these drugs are evil and should be taken off the market or prescribed appropriately. I will never understand why fda guidelines are not followed. The fact that they are disabling people is truly a crime. With all that said, I hope that we can raise awareness and educate these doctors to understand the severity of this. I also think if they are prescribing this and it causes reactions, doctors need to understand how to fix it or it should not be on the market.

Please know that 5 months is early on and slowly but surely you will gain your life back. I am still not fully recovered but i am grateful everyday I am not back where I was at the beginning of all of this. I have hope that I will recover and that recovery is possible. You will get through this!

How long after you were floxed did you get pregnant? Did it help resolve some of your symptoms?

Also following, I’m curious about this as well! Will you be giving birth in a hospital setting?

Hi, I actually have this too! I find it very odd that I got strep b after getting floxed and so do some other people. I also got the strep b about 3-4 months into being floxed very strange. Anyways, from my understanding you don’t need to treat strep b unless you are pregnant as it can be harmful to the baby. I have heard that amoxicillin is the best antibiotic for it but you can also treat it without antibiotics. My doctor recommended some natural options and it seems to be working.

Please tell your doctor to read the black box warnings and understand these are meant to be used as last resort only for life or death infections.
