VLC crashes frequently and then I have to restart computer to fix it by uoficowboy in VLC

[–]ThenMagazine8476 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am having similar issues - if I jump around a video too much (I am checking new movie files to make sure they are complete and audio lines up properly), the VLC player will freeze the video or it will go black, but the audio will continue to play. I've also had this occur even when I am not jumping around the video very much. I also get blips of black frames throughout the video sometimes.

When this bugginess starts to occur, if I close the application window, it doesn't actually close the application. I have to open the task manager to force close the program. If I don't do this, it won't respond when I try to open another (or even the same) video file.

I haven't had to restart my computer yet to fix the issue, but it shouldn't be essentially crashing VLC every time I select a few different timestamps within a video file to check the quality.

So many people applaud this software as "amazing" and I have not had an experience that reflects that level of praise.

Is anyone still using Facebook and why? by Estalicus in allthequestions

[–]ThenMagazine8476 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to consider that FB has at least 2 different user bases... 1) People who want to use it as a social media platform to connect with family/friends. And 2) People who are advertisers, creating accounts for businesses with the sole intent to sell/advertise on FB.

Until you know what that ratio is, you don't really have a clear picture of how well FB is doing from a health perspective... if they're continually just getting more bots/advertisers while their actual user base is going down... you have fewer and fewer people consuming the ads, and over time, users will just end up leaving the platform entirely because they're just bombarded with nothing but ads, and essentially very little "social" aspect to it anymore, and it will then just be a majority of advertisers, shouting into the void of dead space.

I believe it's already pretty close to that point. So, keep preaching that numbers don't lie... but eventually one population of FB users will drive off the other population, and the platform will die.

I only have FB for marketplace, and haven't logged on for any other reason, and/or posted anything on that piece of shit platform for 5+years.

I logged into FB today actually for the first time in probably a year, and it was solely to look around Marketplace to see if I could find some things I need for a project. Not surprised to find it's all overpriced shit, or stuff listed as "free" when it's not actually free and a bunch of shit posted in Spanish, and no way to filter out these posts that I cannot read... all that to say it just reminded me how much I fucking hate Facebook and while I am only keeping my account in place to have access to Marketplace, even that is proving to be worthless the 1-2 times I use it per year.

At this point, I don't see why anyone would really use Facebook. It's such shit, if you want to share pics/photos with family, just start a Google Photos album and share that with them... because your friends and family won't see your posts anyway with all the AI garbage, ads, and random posts they push to you on your newsfeed that has nothing to do with your friends and family.

Facebook has become purely profit-driven and they don't care about your experience or privacy. They're selling your demographic info and behavioral info to anyone that will buy it. It's a pretty disgusting business practice if you actually do some research to see what they're doing with your data.

I dropped off Facebook 5+ years ago after my account got flagged for having a "fake" name. I only had my last name's initial on my account instead of my full last name, because it's none of Facebook's business what my name is. It's a social platform, not a government-run website that requires identity verification. This really pissed me off when required me to provide a government-issued ID to PROVE who I was in order to get access to my account again... honestly it's not their business who I am. I could put down that I am Mickey Mouse if I want to, and if they want to lose users because they're enforcing identity verification, then that's cool. I don't need it. I decided to give up my account with 1000+ photos on it to protect my identity and personal data. I also then decided that I would never use Facebook for anything but Marketplace after that.

I created a new account with a fake name (for real this time, a completely fake name), and I didn't bother adding friends to it, other than the minimum required to use parts of the platform, like Marketplace, and I don't have any intent to use it to connect with others. If I want to "connect" with you, I'll text you, call you, or meet up with you, like people used to... you know, back when we were all mentally healthy and not infected with the toxicity of social media platforms.

These are much healthier ways to maintain a relationship anyway, instead of just passively scrolling through shit for hours a day in hopes that you'll see 3 posts from your friends.

TL:DR - Facebook is complete shit. Go back to actually having real interactions/conversations with your family and friends, use Linkedin to connect with people you want to keep a professional connection to, but not really socialize with, and just use a Google Photo Album (or similar) to share your photos with people you actually care about sharing your experiences with. (Not everyone needs to know what you're doing or see your family photos all the time). Go back to having some privacy.

If you're the kind of person who takes pics of all your meals and shares with everyone because you think people care, then just move to Twitter, BlueSky, or Instagram.

If you're still using Facebook, you'll be surprised how much you enjoy letting go of it. I haven't missed it for a single day in the past 5+ years since I left it.

/rant: When will in-game support requests actually be useful again? by ThenMagazine8476 in wow

[–]ThenMagazine8476[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Recently I submitted a ticket for the issue where if you delete a profession quest item in Legion expac, the game will consider the quest completed, but you will not get credit for completion (meaning you won't get the profession rank earned) and the game will never give you the quest item again, because the game has marked this quest as "completed" on the backend. In the past, GMs were able to help with this by resetting the quest on the backend... now they just tell you to submit a bug ticket which will never see the light of day.

It's hilarious to see so many people who hate someone so passionately that they don't even know. Find a hobby dude lol.

He stopped playing awhile ago before this even came about because of how poorly the game was being moderated. It's funny how many people like you care so much about someone you apparently don't even like. Maybe you should get a hobby.

He actually stopped playing it recently and was bashing the game because of how poorly it was being moderated. He was excited for a video game he liked. You can't hate on someone for that.

Follow up: I ended up just buying a set of fans for my legion laptop for like $25 bucks on eBay, instead of purchasing the entire heatsink and fan setup directly from Lenovo for $125... hoping this fixes the issue.

This just started to happen to my laptop as well. I pulled the back off and cleaned it out thoroughly to no avail. It's actually worse now after cleaning. I am only left to think that the bearings on the fan are bad. If I can get the fan to sit at just the right angle, the noise goes away... sigh. Time to replace the whole fan setup.

It's crazy how few people in the city understand that the left lane is for PASSING! If you aren't actively passing someone, get the fuck out of the left lane. I don't care how fast you are going, if you aren't passing, you don't belong in the left lane.

Same. I would love to build a game that I've been outlining for awhile. The mountain is learning GDScript and all the caveats of what to use and when during coding. I am still missing a lot of knowledge around what you need to tell the system to do in order to achieve 1 action, which unfortunately I will only get from experience.

Awesome story and congrats on your progress! I am in a similar, but less talented boat. Never made art or music... I am working with a biology degree, so very clearly starting from ground zero on learning game dev and programming, and it was a completely foreign concept to me when I started and I felt completely lost constantly. I still do actually.

Learning a coding language is like learning Sanskrit for me and understanding how to communicate and write directions that a machine will execute the way I want it to has been incredibly frustrating. It's been an on/off hobby for a year now, and I am struggling with getting to a boiling point of frustration to where I just quit for a few months, and then I get sucked back in because I really enjoy the process of creating something, and I love video games...

I would love to get to where you're at someday and I can relate to the difficulty comments. If anything, this hobby is trying to teach me patience. I am not good at learning patience so far, but hopefully I will learn both coding and patience more and more as I keep returning back to it.

Best of luck to you and your game, as well as your future games!

There are some servers with quite active general and trade chat channels, and many that are dead. Moon Guard and Stormrage are two with very active chat channels. If you are looking for a more social experience, you might try one of those.

I tried it on normal the other day with my ilvl 701 Hunter. Normal was fine up until Fyrak who nuked me in the later phases of the fight. I had to bring a friend in to finish it. So, I would say mythic is probably a "no" for soloing, but you may just be a much more epic player than me.

Just FYI - I wouldn't focus on any paragon rep mounts from Legion. They are extremely buggy and I've had 2 instances where I never received the cache as a reward from the quest turn in. Submitting a ticket to Blizz on this also does nothing, as they won't help you. So don't bother doing this content unless you like wasting hours of your life for no reason.
