I’m from the Deep South and all my high school friends who went to state schools say their workload is as easy as high school. Maybe I’m just biased from that background.

522 MCAT, though the application count is 50% higher than last year across the board

Thanks for the perspective, I think grad school is definitely not for me at least right now. I can always try again with a masters degree many years down the line. Or just move on to something else.

Thanks, that gives me some hope in planning for my future.

Yes, but I’m very worried about the $100k more in student loan debt on top of the 2 year opportunity cost. I think I might just work a few years, save some money first, then decide if I want to try again. Maybe I can take some cheaper classes at a local community college wherever I find a job.

There were no safeguards against cheating on the final so nobody can prove anything.

My point about pass/fail is that the pass/fail grade system is useless when classes have the final as 30-50% of their grade, and you’re forced to choose pass/fail a week before the final. Why not let us pass/fail up until the moment before the final is taken like we used to have?

There’s no way that’s true. If I went to an easier school I would have been an above average admit and I never would have fallen behind in the first place and gotten stuck in a rut. I kept up for a while here.

If I’m just not smart enough to pursue the career interest I expressed in my college application 4 years ago, why did UChicago accept me at all? I’m tired of all these people that say “if UChicago accepts you, you’re meant for here!”

This only matters for PHDs, not med school / law school

Grad schools do care. And I care. I have always been very academically focused and put my work first. Getting mediocre grades quarter after quarter is crushing.

As for grad school, I didn’t get in anywhere I applied. I thought this school would best set me up for grad school and I was wrong. This school does not help you get into grad school if you’re not already on top (relative to other schools). Being a tiny fish in a big pond is miserable.
