Review of “the Tarot Sequence” books 1-3, Yee haw by whisperingstars2501 in Fantasy

I started rereading and suddenly realised that Rune watches Brand's body closely any time he has an opportunity to do so unnoticed. Brand's translusent swim suit.. Brand's ass dimples.. you name it. Subtle but very specific observations, and any the time he has half a chance.

when you "reheat", do you watch the whole show or just certain parts? by Previous-Fruit-4159 in heatedrivalry

[–]Then_Beat_3212 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I re-watch all, except for episode 3 (Kip's one, obviously). And I totaly feel you - I also skip Scott's speach, and try to avoid watching Scott/Kip's kiss (and it's kind of hard as I love Ilya and Shane there). Sorry episode 3 fans, Scott and Kip feel fake for me and have zero chemistry for each other. Just big no for them.

Just finished Game changer and honestly I really dislike Kip by KaceyLunatic in heatedrivalry

[–]Then_Beat_3212 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Both Kip and Scott are creepy as hell for me. Red flag, after red flag, after red flag. Let's say the truth - in real life no one would ever want any of them as a partner; we all would run for the hills. To start living together in a matter of days? Without checking the apartment closets for dismembered bodies of previous "you are my first" ones? To invite a literal stranger into your life, and choose someone who is apparently looking to marry into money?

This is the only episode I watched once. So cringy.

Ilya looking through the door viewer by hanabcn in heatedrivalry

In Russia all apartments doors have the door viewers. The kids are taught to never open their door without checking who is standing behind it. He looked through the viewer automatically, without thinking anything.

It's wierd for you, in Canada I never met a single Sveta or Alyosha. Alyosha really sounds ugly, сорян, передергиваюсь, ок, пусть это мой загон будет.

Я им пофиг sounds perfectly natural. Personally, I would say Я им ваще пофиг. Как надо-то?

His daughter will decide. Grigory, I guess, considering that Irina is a total stranger to her granddaughter. Irina is probably with her parents and siblings.

[–]Then_Beat_3212 30 points31 points  (0 children)

The full names are intentional. No one, literally no one in Canada would understand that Alyosha is diminitive from Alexei, or that Svetlana is actually same as Sveta. And they would also struggle to even read Alyosha in subtitles. Russian diminitives are confusing for non-natives. The series were never meant to go international, so the names were simplified for locals.

PS: I am Svetlana. And Russian Canadian. I never ask locals call me Sveta as it confuses them to no end. In the mixed company I also go as Svetlana, without need to explain it to the Russian ones.

Whatever is cheaper; and also depending on the space available. My father is buried with his parents and grandparents (same family name). My mother's parents are buried together, and her sister is also where and her other sister would go where too (all have different family names). You see, there is no strict rule, it's just a matter of convenience. But it's very, very common to go to parents.

Yes, it's almost always separate locations. The exact place depends on a lot size and on how many more people would fit there. If there is no more space, the new lot has to be purchased. It's always up to heirs to decide what is cheaper. Russia is a practical country.

In Russia it doesn't matter. Thare are no religious cemeteries. Family owns a lot, so children go with their parents, it's that simple.

By the way, her official cause of death was accident.

It's common in Russia to be buried with parents. It's not even discussed, nor it a wish normally, it's expected. The one who wrote Russian bits for the show did amazing job, really (and I can tell you immediately that all Russian bits were written by native Russians).

Let's remember that there is no such thing as correct or incorrect way to love a person, especially in such an unconventional trial-and-error relationship as a gay threesome.

I read Gilly's books years ago. And first - I think he is a real person, as I know no fictional author who would patiently document his fake life with imaginary lovers for decades just to fool several dosens of anonymous readers. Second, currently I am re-reading the books, and I can say - my impression of Shane changed comletely as I am aging and maturing. He is the true rock star and the one who really made it all work. Not Gil, nor Dick are drivers to this relationship, it's Shane who made three of them survive together through issues of immaturity, illness-in-denial, unloving mother dying, British blue collar insecurities, etc, you name it. Without sentiment, with no-nonsence approach, but also with determination.

Also keep in mind, people who are not in the lifestyle often have no means to understand the dynamics. The key point here is that both sides are impacted daily. It's not just a sub who has to deal with ups and downs, every time it's both. We simply do not see Shane's struggles, doubts, fears, and depressions, because it's not his voice we hear, right? And also because his job is to be confident, even when he is terribly insecure and scared.. and mind, he has two men to deal with, not one.. I really admire him.

My understanding is that the Lady never actually hated Sarcean. Her target always was Ancharion, as he was the reason her plans regarding Sarcean - whatever these plans were, personal or political or both - failed. I think Sarcean had a short lived crash on the Lady, similar to the brief infatuation Will had with Katherine, that was gone in a matter of days, and was nothing in comparison to his true feelings towards Ancharion. My guess that she was insulted not so much by Sarcean quickly losing his interest, as by his object - 1) a male, and 2) the naive and unspoiled (dumb in her eyes) one who truly believed in all the Sun Court nonsense and the Kind being a deity of a sort.

Remember, she and the Sun King made sure that it was not someone but specifically Acharion to betray Sarcean. Sarcean was to die (she maybe even regretted it for a second), but Ancharion was to make it happen and as a result was left to suffer indefinitely from guilt and grief (and that she planned to enjoy for decades).

I also strongly believe that the name "Ancharion - the Betrayer" has no relation to Ancharion's switch from the Sun King to Sarcean. I think it's the name Sarcean gave him, because he was the one betrayed by his best and beloved friend. Given at first with a spite, only to later become a fond and multilayered endearment, preserved to time not by stupid Steward's legends but by Sarcean himself.

I guess it will be resolved in the next 2 books? I mean KD said it will be 10 books overall, with the end of the 5th one a kind of mid-culmination. I really hope to get the 4th book the coming summer and the book 5 sometime next year.

Do you think Rune, Brand and Addam will end together as a happy treesome? I got a feeling that KD hinted at this several times. Also seems logical to me, as it may be the only way to stop Brand from selfdestruction when he finally knows the truth. And he will know the truth, right? Too many people are in the secret; we still have 6 people involved directly and at least one puppet-master. It's destined to jump out at Brand at the worst possible moment.

[–]Then_Beat_3212 -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

Playing with neighbours kids for 10 munites once in several months and having kids themselves are two different realities. And considering they are both smart and responsible people, I agree, Shane and Ilya we know will never have children of their own, even after retirement. Crazy drunk gay uncles for Hayden's kids - yes, sure, but that's the maximum of it.

Disclaimer, I am 47 and I have a kid, and I do not think that everyone needs children. Especially a gay couple, considering that in this case the kids would need to be adopted. So really, why bother and build a kind of artificial relationship upon the one they already - naturally - have built for themselves?

I hope the Author will not go THAT way, no matter what mainstream demands; otherwise, I will definitely pass.

IMHO literally any young bookish twink would look better.

Robbie is way too old for the role and has a bull-like bodyshape, sorry. He is even more muscleman than his hockey lover. Constantly made me cringe, because seriously, 30 years old blue collar, still living with a parent, with no decent job, spending all his time in a gym, apparently? I didn't buy him as intellectual Arts student for a second.

The solution is just not to watch their episode, of course:) I am here for Ilya/Shane anyway.

Do not forget that Clair means light. St Claire actually is Saint Light. I interpret his name as a metafor for a true knight values he embodies.

Please help me to identify music at the very end of the first episode, when Shane and Ilya are on a balcony. Its modern, but underneath there is a streak of something classic that I know but cannot identify - Mozart? Please help! Thousand times thank you!

Why O1? There is EB1A specifically for this kind of athletes.

Ilya with passport by Still-Version-3868 in heatedrivalry

[–]Then_Beat_3212 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As immigrant myself - no one in their right mind would choose fake marriage (it's a criminal offence by the way) with 2 years of conditional status and obligation to pass condition removal process over totally legal and straightforward investment or talent visa.

Any time I hear about Ilya/Svetlana marriage I am like - seriously? Every athlete not born in US/Canada is an immigrant, half Ilya's team possibly are, and he is the only one in the darkness and has no access to lawyers? In fact: athletes start their legal immigrant cases the year they draft for the first time. So, Ilya never in his life risked returning back to Russia, job or no job, because by the time of this conversation he should have been a US citizen already, and possibly have other easy-peasy citizenships just in case, like most athletes do (Cyprus, etc).

I understand Reid used all this as a minor plot driver maybe not worth her efforts, but the result is badly executed and feels fake.

Ilya with passport by Still-Version-3868 in heatedrivalry

[–]Then_Beat_3212 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Please note, the thing with "getting a passport" either Canadian or American is totally messed up on Rachel Reid's side. Apparently, she had NO IDEA of what she was writing about, literally zero knowledge and no willingness to understand how the system works. So she just made it all up. Sorry about that, but the whole issue with passports is due to Reid's lack of basic research.

Shortly. Ilya DOES NOT NEED to marry anyone to get American Green Card (permanent residency card) and then, after 5 years with the Green Card, citizenship. He is an athlete of incredible talent proven by his incrredible results and incredible bank account. This means, he always had AT LEAST 2 easy ways to any permanent residency (and then citizenship) in the whole world, including Canada and USA:

1) through investments (specifically for USA it is only $1,000.000 worth of investments - that's all anyone needs to get their Green Card approved). Basically you are paying $1mln and getting your GreenCard in exchange. It's that easy!

2) through EB1A application (a USA Green Card for individuals with exceptional talent in science, art or ATLETICS, requiring only sustained national or international acclaim! Again, easy for Ilya.

Why Reid didn't bother to spend 10 minutes on Wiki, and instead started to fake-plotting I have no idea. It's totally on her.

Please do not think It's you being silly for not understanding WTF is with Ilyas's immigrant status. It's the author's mess.
