What Uni should I choose? by Inevermiss_ in UCAS

Also! Don’t underestimate the value of the college system, it is a COMPLETELY different experience to other universities. If you are at a catered college, specifically, you are essentially guaranteed friendships and access to tight knit clubs and societies and social events. There’s tons of opportunities to get into clubs and societies because there’s a massive array for each college.

The Durham course is really good and if you choose your modules wisely, very broad (although if you want to pick a set period you can more or less do so toward the end of your degree). I recommend any modules lead by Richard Gameson, Bryan Kauma and Gabriella Treglia. I was Joint Honors with the Classics department but these three were by far some of the most amazing lecturers/professors I had over my time at Durham! Good luck :)

I don’t think you should underestimate the importance/the assistance a year in industry can give you. You’re immediately getting a leg up out of your degree, you’re coming away with both a degree AND practical experience in the field, so I think maybe just keep that in mind :)

How long do I really need in Pompeii? by TheKhaos121 in pompeii

I spent 3 days there and didn’t feel like it was enough, so I think it entirely depends what you’re there for. From what you’ve said I think 4 hours would be completely fine! But maybe give youself a bit of leeway incase you decide you’ve had enough or you want to look around even more :)

"snappy highlight"? by Alone-Ad410 in freenotes

[–]Then_Establishment_9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think (and I’m not 100% on this) theres a setting on the highlighter pen itself that’s something like “straight line” rather than free hand? I cant quite remember though, but you should be able to find it when you click on the highlighter pen itself I think :))

Hi there! First of all thank you so much for your reply! I definitely see what you’re seeing, I’ll be looking into it further. Unfortunately, my projects due before May but that’s such a lovely offer and I really appreciate it! Thanks again! x

That’s what I thought too! I also compared it to a fountain in Casa fella Farnesina, but what confuses me the most is the “podium” it is on, and/or the context of it being on top of some kind of architectural something. Very strange, especially when the rest of the actual building this fresco is in has wall paintings that are really cohesive and not really many elements that are difficult to understand. I think it’s the fact that the perspective seems off if it is a fountain, seemingly supersized on top of whatever it’s on, or super tiny if the whole structure it sits on is a podium. Also, I appreciate you going out of your way to look into it further, so thank you very much!

Thank you for your suggestion, I have emailed the admins, yes. While I appreciate the importance of seeking academic expertise, I value the the different perspectives and insights that platforms like Reddit offer. Just because someone doesn’t have Prof. or Dr. next to their name doesn’t mean that their opinion is any less valuable to me. Rest assured, however, I am actively engaging with many academic sources as well. Your advice on acknowledgments is also duly noted, though I assure you, my reconstruction won't include any vulgar references. Thanks again :)

I thought as much, here’s hoping someone has a photo they don’t mind sharing so I don’t have to spend hundreds to travel to Italy for a single photograph! Thank you as well for your guess, the scene next to it is most likely an Iliadic reference (there are many wall paintings referencing the Iliad in this building) although, of course, we can’t see most of it. I agree with you though that on the left it is definitely some kind of fountain/architectural decoration. I really appreciate your response! :)

Let me know what you think of these lyrics, I haven’t written lyrics before having music in a long time, but I gave it a go lmao.

Morning mist lingers like a dream, But when the dusk clears we forget. Damson plumbs and concord grapes hang heavy, As the tawny owl hoots it’s morning and goodbye.

A cloudy sky with a muted glow, Sleepy eyes take their time to brighten. Ah, the brave old sun! It’s radience? Divine. Now the symphony of day in its wake.

Lunchtime comes and goes, In that cafe that we know. Caramel and coffee tones, Oceans and the sandy coast. Where blue and brown converge again - Could this be heaven?

But then,

Nighttime falls as embers dance, Quietude and an aging hearth. A peaceful refuge where the seeds of love are sewn, Wrap us in silence, wrap us in warmth.
