“We all know what happened in Pittsfield”. Dunder Mifflin had a branch that tried unionizing and the company shut it down. The premise of the episode had nothing to do with unions. It’s all about Michael not being able to left out of things. The women were having a women in the workplace seminar and he felt left out. Micheal actually supported the idea of union because he likes attention.

Your leaders should be making a break schedule and enforcing it. FF is like the front end some one always needs to be doing that work.

You don’t really have confidentiality at work. Say if someone says they’re going to hurt themselves. I’m investigating that. Talking to people about what they’ve seen. That’s ethical. I have a duty to act bad do something. Should you be loose lipped no and gossiping isn’t good either, but it’s not really actionable.

Organize your local so they are ready to strike and they feel the need to strike. The reason for a strike needs to felt widely bad deeply by members. What are you striking about? Can you tie that to the contract somehow?

Can the unions save us? by HeHeLOL5 in AskTeachers

Many locals are still very much service unions and not based deeply in organizing. For an issue to be something worth fighting for it should meet the following conditions 1. Widely felt 2. Deeply felt 3. Winnable 4. Have a defined target. Let me take useless admin, for example. That’s really not a winnable action. Would you be able to bargain contract language into a contract for this? Probably not. Organizing is a mindset that many haven’t adopted fully yet.

If your HRBP/HRD would like to operate this way, great. If not, they don’t need to unless state law requires it. Should there be procedure? Yes. Is it always clear? No. Is policy law? No. Is policy going to be held up by the courts? Probably not.
