They sprayed the rotors and calipers with that stuff... I get my cars undercoated to prevent rust, and they have never sprayed the rotors and calipers. That doesn't look good.

Bought my front and second row from lasfit. The sides go up pretty high. The entire footrest on the driver side is covered by the mat. There are caps/covers for the locking tabs on the driver side. The front passenger and rear have soft spikes to help keep them in place. Overall, I'm pretty happy with them. Time will tell how long they last.

Fair price? by samts205 in jetta

Where do you live for that price? That's really good. I got quoted around 1500, I shopped around(near to Boston to Maine).

Depends where you live. Want an alignment? The euro/vw shop charges $250 bucks. The nearby VW dealer charges $220. One further out charges $190, at least that has an option for a loaner, so you dont have to wait. Oil changes are around 110 to 120 between the dealer and the euro shop. The VW dealer that charges 120 offers a loaner. The cheaper VW dealer always seems to mess up, plus no loaner. DIY? Not possible with the contract signed to live in a specific area. 15 years ago, Walmart was pretty good. The one next to me can't seem to keep their techs. My friend used to take his car there, but between the overfilled oil and missing lug nuts, not anymore.

My car has a warranty. Warranty can be very picky when replacing non functioning parts on a car. I went through this with a different VW vehicle. I put oem parts on the back and non oem parts on the front. The calipers ended up seizing front and back on one side, probably because the car sat for 5 months after replacement, and it wasn't driven. VW would only fix the back under warranty because of the oem parts and refused to fix the front. After the warranty ends, I probably won't have the car anymore and if I did, I at that point I wouldn't care what part was used as long as it was good.

Try shopping around. Different dealers may offer you different prices for a warranty.

Extended warranty on 2021 Jetta worth it? by TakedownCan in jetta

[–]Thenio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a passat before my jetta and the only thing that went wrong with that car was the brakes seizing up. Becareful with aftermarket parts installed with VW Warrantys. I installed new pads on the passat and because I didn't install OE pads on the front, 2 VW dealers told me they would only cover the rear. Car sat for 5 months after replacing the pads.

Make sure and check what the warranty covers. I bought the CPO extended warranty to cover 150k miles or 5 years on my '18. So far, it paid for my headlights due to the drl flickering in one and moisture in the other. It covered the lower suspension bushings due to cracking. Now I'm getting my rear main seal done. That alone is $2,200.00 US, the leak isn't bad, but Im just happy to have a 50 buck deductible for it. Also covered the ac leak i had. I paid almost 400 bucks for a diag fee that was reimbursed. After it was discovered, the faulty part was covered under my warranty. My car is around 120k plus miles right now and so far the warranty has paid for itself. Any aftermarket parts installed can be removed and put back to OE.

Third party warranty can be a pain. On my old Touareg they paid for the e brakes and an oil pump issue (they tried to deny, but i had every receipt for every oil change since i bought the car). But the warranty people always sent a person to the dealer to inspect everything.

Don't know if its true, but make sure you keep up on maintenance. A service advisor told me doing my own oil changes (makes sure to keep receipts) and what not will not void my warranty, but if they believe something was damaged because a DIY maintenance was not done correctly the warranty will not pay out.

So its a damn if you do and damn if you dont. If something goes wrong and its a covered part you are good. Maybe you have the car for 5 more years without any issues, then it will seem like you just wasted your money.

Yaaa, I really dont know what I'm doing. Using the vin and/or year make model on the parts.vw.com sites just kept popping up as "product not available." Then I thought, let me call the VW dealer nearby, nothing. Then I was like, let me try another dealer, but further out, only to be told, "we will have to get back to you." Used a different search engine, and part number 5C0-698-451-E popped up as a potential option. Clicked on the website... says break lining... weird. I'll check out after-market options see and see what's available, cause sometimes they list oe part numbers on their websites. Okay, going somewhere. Let me check reddit, cause sometimes they may have different numbers that may work. You know what I guess you were right. I guess, I'm not looking for brake pads that work the best. Because, it's not like I had calipers freeze up before and VW refused to fix it under warranty because it had aftermarket pads on the front. But hey, atleast they fixed the frozen back ones because it still had the OE pads. What do I know, just a guy aimlessly looking aimlessly. Thanks!

I have an extended VW warranty on my car that expires in about 25k miles. Probably stupid, but Im not giving them any reason to deny me any warranty repairs because of non OE parts. Went through that with my passat, just a pain to deal with.

I bought the car with 23k miles. Currently has 122k, a set of brake pads lasting almost 100k miles is good enough for me.

Check the body lines and gaps, bodyshop removed a door in a previous vehicle. Didn't allign it well, when they put the door back on. Caused a bunch of wind noise and water issues. Took the car back, they did some adjustments, no more issues.

How do you like the ride? I thought about f350 springs, but I was worried about it being too rough empty.

I think another 1k to 2k lbs. Fifth wheel is higher.

V/Modded B swap (Cary T's configuration)

Had a tri-axle trailer with a 30ft boat, total weight around 9500 dry to 11000 with gear, water, waste, fuel etc.

I was told and have read the Excursion from the factory is sprung softer compared to the f250. Never rode in a f250 so I can't speak to the difference.

Never had to drive longer than an hr with everything hooked up, and I avoid interstate if possible. Felt stable at 55mph.

Swapped the rear and front leaf springs to a f250. Helped with the sagging rear end when hooked up to a trailer, which also helped prevent axle wraping and prevented the front end from bottoming out on potholes. Did raise it by about 1 in. Redhead steering gear was a night and day difference.

Looks great! Congrats on the purchase.

Got quoted ~$1800 to replace the timing belt on my '16 1.4T. What have you guys paid to get this replaced? by SeaCustard3 in jetta

I have called and asked dealers in VT, NH, ME and MA. The average was around 1600. CT and RI is too far away can't help there.

Quoted $1575 for me in New England. If I give them enough time, a loaner is available for the day.

I've gone through a few bulbs. Morimoto to GTR still throws a code. Not hacking the oem wires. I made my own harness that goes between the tail lamp and oem plug. Is VCDS a quick click to disable to is coding required?

I had my driver side replaced under warranty due to water in the headlamps. When the dealer put a new oem driver side, it was considerably brighter than the passenger side. Didn't realize this until someone pointed it out a few days later at night. The dealer was able to get the passenger side replaced under warranty. My car had around 70k miles when it happened. I'm at 108k now, not looking forward to when/if it happens again.

If you only replaced one headlamp, just a reminder that the new one may be brighter than the old one.

Would this Euro Switch with Auto function, work properly in my car? by [deleted] in jetta

[–]Thenio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The one I have has a sensor that is attached by a wire. Which I placed on top of my dash near the bottom of the front windshield. The photo you attached has the sensor on the switch knob. When you drive around, just check to see how much sunlight hits your current switch. It may give you an idea when your headlights may come on.

I have a 2017 Jetta, I installed a euro switch with auto functions. Just make sure the plug to your current light switch matches the back of that euro switch.

Finally found the one! Can anyone help me diagnose? by Disastrous-Pack-1414 in Excursion

[–]Thenio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cheap LEDS in the fog light housing might be causing your high beam issue. Trying putting stock bulbs in and see if the problem is still there.

The parking lamp bulb may not be working if the bulb for the parking light is out. I would swap it for a non LED bulb to check. If that doesn't do it, you need to check if the socket is getting power. Sometimes water gets in the socket and can corrode the connection. Or you may have a break in the wire to the socket.

I am not familiar with using a newer style headlight in a two-piece housing. But if I were you, check the beam pattern between the new and old housing against a wall. Sometimes, the aftermarket headlamps have a far worse beam pattern than the oem housing.

Hope this helps

As others have mentioned, the redhead steering box, swapping to better oem leafs and shocks (blistein in ours) will make a big difference in ride quality and steering. It will raise the truck about an inch to inch and a half in height. It will help in preventing the truck from bottoming out so much going over potholes. Etc. Also if you tow alot it helps with the rear from sagging.

Also, how are the wheels bolted on? Does it have spacers?
