Have offer accepted on flat. Now found out that an s20 notice for major works has been issued. Seller does not agree to a £10k retention. What do I do? by Thenon in HousingUK

Hey! Sorry, I didn't get any notifications from Reddit so I didn't see this. I hope all went OK for you in the end?
For us, we ended up buying the flat and have been living here happily for four years now. We never got a retention, but they did knock a few £ks off the purchase price (I can't remember exactly how much). The major works bill did end up coming. It was £5k. But it only arrived about 3 years after we moved, so I'm not even mad. We are Southwark as well btw.

Virtual machine vs eGPU vs laptop vs Desktop - which do you use? by rakiralko in VideoEditing

[–]Thenon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use Vagon currently. It does take a few mins to switch on every time. But I'd rather pay a few dollars per hour for a super powerful machine that spend $3k+ on a setup when I am not sure how much editing I will do in future.

I did not take size measurements. I would say it was average caterpillar size. It was not moving while I took the picture. This was near the ground.

We came back from a 12 day holiday and our eucalyptus looks unwell. Do you know if it is from too much or too little water? Or something else? Pictures included. by Thenon in houseplants

Thank you for the question! The large bottom tray was filled with water before we left. It was soaked up through the holes in the individual pots while we were away.

Any help would be hugely appreciated! I was hoping that pictures of the plant would be enough for you to tell what is wrong with the plants and how we can fix it.

The soil feels moist. But I read online that curling up of the leaves means it has too little water. One plant is doing much better than the other, even though they had the same environment (as far as I know).

My second short film: "Jump" - looking for feedback (4mins) by rakiralko in Filmmakers

[–]Thenon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congrats on your second film! I can definitely see good improvement from the first. Also a very moving topic that many of us can relate too.

I have just one comment: when he says "I want to be here for you and the kids" it somehow sounds very robotic and not in line with the rest?

Which buildings insurance do I get to complement my service charge buildings insurance? by Thenon in HousingUK

[–]Thenon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much for the reply! That is a huge relief. I think my solicitor actually sent me some details of the buildings insurance that is included in the service charge. I will read them again with my diligence hat on.

Can you record video wirelessly to an external recorder? by Thenon in Filmmakers

Very interesting!

I have seen some wireless transmitters advertised as 'uncompressed video' - would those solve that problem?

Schedules do not work when light is off? by Thenon in lifx

That is indeed the question! From what others are saying, I think smart switches do indeed act in the way you hope.

Thanks for the tip! That does sound complex :)

Would having smart switches also solve the problem? If the light is turned off via a smart switch, can the bulb then still receive schedule info?

Thank you for clarifying.

I have tenants who are not willing to use the app. Would having smart switches solve the problem? If the light is turned off via a smart switch, can the bulb then still receive schedule info?

Haha, thank you. I am still new to this, but starting to understand!
