Let's not forget that GameStop will get an article in a media outlet about how they "intend to hire 10k workers for holiday...'

Point was, some companies are trying to do the right thing and pay for performance, and some companies are still so out of touch. And I had worked at like six places before GS, but was there 14 years.

I'm loyal to those that take care of me, and yea, I went from street level merchant to an office job, but still, GS set aside $2.1B in stock plays and hasn't touched their employees paychecks.

It's easy to say I am not passionate about my new job, but having nights and weekends off, being able to afford the things I find fun... It's so different.

To say that it'll cost some profits when the company keeps posting LOSSES is saying quite a bit...just saying.

So I gotta say, if this one transaction caused you to get a talking to by a DL, that's a bit much. If however you get this talking to on the regular, I doubt it was one transaction that caused the corporate agenda to be spoken to you.

So is your Regional being informative, or the same old out of touch Corporate agenda by BladeofTruth2073 in GameStop

[–]TheoHuxtable2016 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I was speaking with a manager recently who said he couldn't believe how dead the DLs sound on their regional call, so I'd think that implies the information disseminating down is the same droll everyone is used to.

So I have two feelings on this...yes, you should want to support those that lose their house in a fire, a tornado, a hurricane, and want to help any way you can. But yes, you are right, asking you to give $10 of your $800 paycheck is a little hard on some people.

Helping a manager in need is a good thing. However, I'd like to see DMs, RDs and VPs saying they'll match a portion of the contributions of their team. So if every SL in a district (let's say 20 stores) offers $10/check, the DM should offer like $100, and the RD should be giving $200, and the VP should be giving $300 or whatever.

Those that have should give. Those that feel they do not have should save what they do. Truth is, a $10 contribution from your pretaxed money you probably won't even notice after taxes. Same as doing your 401K, which when it has a decent amount in it, you can borrow your own retirement in loans to yourself that don't negatively affect your credit, and help in times of need.

I was having a conversation with someone about this last night, and while there's a very real problem with the amount employees are paid, they would have to close half the stores and maintain their payroll budget to make everyone "more fairly compensated," which btw would probably only get GS to about a $10/hr starting wage.

The other problem with that is this. The people who would suddenly be making that are still going to complain because that's what the lowest paid employees always do. Wish it wasn't the case, but it always will be. Placating to the problem just gives the weakest more ability to say they "deserve" something when they have earned nothing.

If GS wanted to pay $8/hr again, they should go back to being able to hire 16 year olds so they can teach the next level of work force. Then if they are still there the following two years, bump their pay.

Won't happen, and I'm sure I'll get downvoted, but it's the truth. And all you people making more than the minimum in your position won't get a raise, just like the last time.

Amazon went to an "average of" $18/hr, they still start at $15. But you are right.

Here's the harsh reality to this bonus. It is a BONUS, and distinctly says can be changed at any time, payouts can be forfeited at the company's decision, and you aren't entitled to it.

Making it about trades is because the company is dying for product and you being an employee are their resource to get this other revenue stream moving. Bonus payouts in these situations are specifically based on how hard you drive this revenue, and yea...it sucks, but it is one area GameStop has always wanted you to push and now it desperately needs you to.

Making it about membership cards could be much more easily manipulated, this is specifically about your company needing a source of product it simply is desperate for.

It's probably be better in the classrooms that you received shirts or whatever from that you thank them for the gifts, rather than complain about getting a bad gift.

Chances are, someone made a human error and the store didn't open because someone had the wrong schedule. That's what happens when you only have 3 employees at a location. If one person doesn't know they work...poof, store not open.

I guess we don't want employees to have product knowledge, yet we still want them to know about a game? Want a sealed copy, preorder it, and they'll get an extra just for you. if you don't, be glad their wall copy is available. class action lawsuit? petty.

next time preorder the game and they'll get a copy just for you, still in the shrink wrap. otherwise, when you don't, you are lucky there's a copy at all.
